Avogadro6: It was a good sale overall, with some of the highest discount Gog has ever done. However, I only put like $5 on it because:

- I don't like the way you do bundles, i.e. losing discount % if you deselect even one item. Most other sites put games on a substantial discount and, if they're bundled, they may or may not have a small extra discount on top of it. It's an incentive. The price difference doesn't make you feel punished for not buying the whole package.

-More importantly, the whole site is falling apart and there's no sign of improvement on the horizon. On the contrary, things are getting worse with every new site update and the worst thing is, you just don't seem to care.
Gog has launched almost 8 years ago and it's STILL missing core functionalities such as a proper changelog feature, which the community, thankfully, is taking care of on your behalf for free. Meanwhile, you managed to break even more things with the last major site overhaul, which was pushed only to release a buggy client barely in beta state with half-assed social features.

I like Gog but I am not going to support it anymore if this keeps up. I get that you want to expand, but if by doing so you're making the life harder for ALL your customers, you're doing it wrong. Get your act together please.
I thought the Changelog was one of the best things to come out of the Library View overhaul, indeed it was a long overdue feature, though it doesn't include updates from before the overhaul. Do you have an example of how it could be improved, besides importing all the historical change data?

The bundle pricing is a bit screwy, since it's not like they have to move inventory out the door to make room! "I'll take the steak and shrimp." "That'll be $10." "Ok, hold the shrimp." "That'll be $20." I am avoiding Galaxy like the plague but I haven't found where the site is broken or falling apart. In what way?
Better look through all the deals and see if there's anything I don't want to miss.
Forgot to deposit money in paypal so only had $4.09 left, and dragonfall costs exactly the same! Just bought it and hope will have fun this summer.

I thought so too, until it stopped working. Notifications and changelogs aren't being sent anymore. If it wasn't for the effort of these fine gentlemen we'd be left in the dark. Anyone who doesn't use the forums or hasn't bootmarked that thread has probably missed many updates.

As for what's wrong about the site, well, you can read a comprehensive list here. Off the top of my head:

-Notifications (forum replies, chat, everything) are bugged, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. In fact I didn't get any notification of your reply. I only noticed because this thread was on the first page.

-A while ago Gog decided to unbundle some games. As a side effect, this has broken forum and tech support links for a good number of them. This hasn't been fixed yet.

-Old messages were lost in the PMs-to-Chat conversion. I lost at least two entire conversations, and the chat itself is kind of a... uh... crysalid. As a side note, I'd rather NOT see what the people in my chat list are doing, what they are playing, or if they're even online, and vice-versa. Let us opt-out of that, or at least give us the option to set ourselves as offline/AFK/hidden/DND.

-In the first few days of the sale Gog has disabled the index of all subforums, i.e. right when they are needed the most, presumably to reduce server stress. This has lead to many confused users wondering if there was a problem on their end, and other users trying to figure out a way to let them access those forums. IIRC "game owned" tags were disabled too, and I don't think I need to point out why that is bad.

-IE 11 users are currently experiencing issues (and by the way, since the forum search engine ignores words shorter than three letters, "IE 11" of course yeld no results, and I had to google that thread).

-Galaxy users are forced to spam the forums just so their friends can add them; I think their most common opinion on this system is something along the lines of "this is totally dumb". I really don't mind it much but other people do, and we should be well over the thousand post mark by now.

-Besides some hilarious recent bugs I'm not going to describe here, I'm still waiting for basic forum functionalities such as a SPOILER TAG (I lost count of how many times someone has spoiled me a book/movie/game on here) an ignore function (seriously, there's no need NOT to have it, especially now that Gog is going "full social"; it used to be available at least for PMs, since the chat introduction it's been removed completely), user post history (even wanted to see who's this guy who sent you a friend request? Or find an old post of yours? Some time ago you could just google and hope, but now that Gog has archived pre-2015 posts you can't even do that anymore!).
I was really hoping for a forum overhaul when they announced "big changes" coming up, but since that turned out to be Galaxy integration, there's no hope for them to do that in the near future...

...

... you know what? Maybe it's better if they don't touch anything anymore.

same here, i am just using the gog downloader, works a charm, clients are always more troublesome no matter who's client it is, whether its steams, bigfish or other clients, justing downloading files using browser or a goglike downloader is the fastes and easiest way in my humble opinion.

I don't see the site 'falling apart' either. :D

Its understandable that some things might be slower or wont work properly during bigsales times,
like paysafecard did, but it was gone reasonable fast and i was able to buy lots of more games without any big delay, so i dont get all the excitement that the site is 'broken'.

Once again, you cant compare apples with oranges or pears, or whatever so you cant compare GOG' s prices, sales with other sites i have some other accounts aswell, but GOG is the best in my humble opinion.
The grass is always greener on the other side, thats what they often say, but for me its greener where i am now :D

I am quite satisfied :D

mintee: There also needed be to a better page to sort that huge list of sales, that front page was way too busy and loaded to scan for games. I myself was using the games list to sort for games, which showed things I didnt want such as already owned games etcs. more sort functions are very much needed
Indeed, a filter to exclude the already owned games from the game list was what I missed most. Also an option to have all search results in one page would be very helpful. Switching back and forth between the pages is just annoying.

These were my thoughts exactly. Plus a short by price filter. :-)

EDIT: I mean by ascending or descending price, not that messy list we get by selecting today's filters

Avogadro6: lots o'text
Wow, I had no idea a lot of these even existed, but sure sounds like they are broken. I have noticed the loss of links in the wake of game pack unbundling but I hope this is on the to-do list. Some things get better, some things get worse, but I have few complaints about the place that sells all these games cheap n' legal and doesn't force their client on the user. I can see the frustration though; if I was trying to make more use of site features I'd be irked as well.

It is. But despite that the notification still does not work reliable and the changelog is not updated consequently even for new changes it is only accessible when you already own a game. Isn't restricting and hiding the usual approach of the DRM folks and doesn't fit much for the DRM-free philosophy?

The changelog should be accessible publicly, from the game card in the shop, before you buy a game, and it should be downloadable (wishlist entry here). It would even be nice to have an RSS feed for the changelogs.

Now that the Witcher 3 is done it finally would be the right time to fix all these broken things before you start to break new things.

As much as I know that the forums lack quite some features I'm scared by the day the GOG guys touch the forums and try to "greatly improve our overall user experience" once again.

That...never even occurred to me. But you're right, there's no reason the changelogs shouldn't be public. I'm glad I don't work here!

Many, many thanks to you all, for the time and effort.

I just bought the Ultima and Sid Meier bundles.

I've been quite enamoured with the Ultima series for a while now. Aside from Ultima VII and IV, as well as the Worlds of Adventure spin-offs, I have played very first game of the series, and I adore them all.

My hesitation partially came about because, even though I generally enjoy the genre, I'm really terrible at RPGs and rarely get very far in them.
However, I was set to buy it since I passed it up during last year's summer sale, but I wasn't so sure about it anymore when that Sid Meier deal popped up.

Alpha Centauri, you see, is one of my all-time favourite games and I'm a big fan of Sid Meier's/Microprose's work. Since I never had the chance to try SMAC's expansion, and thanks to a strong case of curiosity for Covert Action, this bundle seemed just as enticing as the Ultima one.

Originally, I thought I would just pick up one of these, along with maybe one or two other games, but in the end, this probably was the best deal for me.

Again, thank you very much.

I now have to go and distract myself from thinking about how much money I spent during this sale.

Avogadro6: ...
And on top of that there's GOGmixes, which were, and are still a great site feature, especially now with GOG trying to push the social angle of its platform. Sadly, they've been broken for a long, long, long time now.

There's also a glaring need for some kind of two-factor authentication system, especially in the light of the recent hacking incidents.

And of course, there's rep, which people have been wanting to have fixed (if not done away with entirely) for as long as I can remember.

skeletonbow: Talk to GOG support and they might refund you the difference between what you paid and the sale price.
avatar
Kastergir: Are you serious ? Thats how Cool they are ???

Well, thanks for the hint . I think I will give it a shot .
They might, they might not, doesn't cost anything to ask though. I've had good experiences with GOG support.
I'm so glad that GOG is here and giving me more great reasons to shutter my blinds and hide inside for the summer months! I picked up enough games to last me for quite a few months.

Also would like to mention that I love GOG galaxy. So convenient to be able to download games and have them in one place.
1.5 hours to go....
