Well, it's a thread about "regret buys" and you wrote that you bought KoDP without doing any research beforehand and didn't say what you actually thought of the game. That "mugged" expression was just confusing, mugging is about threatening someone.

Well the OP mentioned his favorite purchase, next to his worst one...

I can accept paying for something that offers poor gameplay, because that's on me. However, Litil Divil is my one regret, simply because the game should not have been sold in its current state. The CD version would merit 2 stars, but this version is NOT that one. Poor graphics, unmappable controls, no intro movie, and the manual is incorrect. Function keys don't work, nor do the action keys stated in the manual.

My favorite purchase rotates depending on my mood. I'm still "discovering" games I purchased years ago.

Robin Hood is my biggest regret. I bought it without noticing that windows 8 isn't a supported platform but thought no biggie, GOG will fix this. It's been about a year or even more since I bought it and there is still no win 8 support in sight and honestly I very doubt we will ever get one. GOG, you really let me down.

Really? I thought the point of GOG was to ensure playability for these games; it's why I keep buying them, confident that they'll keep making them work with each new OS. It's a bit disheartening to hear that Win 8 isn't being supported across the board. Do you know if they're they taking it on a game-by-game basis?

Well, supporting old games and make them working on new platforms is their general agenda but for some reason it doesn't apply to this game and some else. The two crucial factors I can come up with are:
- the game isn't popular enough so there is very little demand and pressure (which is obviously very lame reason)
- the game engine for some reason doesn't get along with Windows 8, which might be true cause another game from the same developer and similar in design - Desperados - isn't "W8 ready" as well. This would be sort of a valid reason but in my mind W8 is just a W7 on steroids, so unless I'm very far off here (and I very well could be) there is just no excuse for GOG here.

Sorry for taking us off course here, but I wanted to say thank you for posting your thoughts; this is definitely something I'll want to pay attention to when making future purchases.

My biggest regret so far is Nox, a game I wouldn't buy again.

On the contrary, I am happy to have bought Legend of Grimrock: both for the game itself and to support the developer.

I buy games like they're going to disappear so honestly, I don't have regrets. I own 100's of games I haven't played, so my regret will have to come from one I have played and was disappointing in.

I had high hopes of "Evoland" but just could not get into it. Perhaps because I had just finished played "DLC Quest", but I found the humour and pace really "done" and the combat really weak.

My favourite purchases are endless. I've absolutely loved Legend of Grimrock and Hotline Miami. They were easily my "Games of the Year" last year. Most recently "I Have No Mouth..." is a game I've been wishing for ages I'd see again since the title and box art fix caught my attention in a gaming store as a kid. Now that I've played it, I love it.

I suppose another regret would be my recent purchase of "Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs". Not because it's a bad game, it's fantastic. But I can't play it for more than 20 minutes without having to stop. It's terrifying. I don't regret the purchase, just the torture I put myself through every night when I load it up.

Evoland was every bit as mediocre as everyone said. Not sure if I'll ever finish it.

Biggest surprise? Either Hotline Miami, as I bought it off the strength of the trailer, or Witcher 2, cuz man....it's the ONLY RPG where I had to stop and think "What would Gerhalt do in this situation?" THAT'S what it means to get immersed.

I would suggest that you check and see if they fixed the camera problems, while it's a great (awesome) game, iirc it was designed for consoles initially and while I played it on console and had no issues, I seem to recall people complaining about the camera in the PC version and waiting in vain for a patch.
Shit, I forgot that one, yeah, tried twice to play it and hated the hell out of it.

Hmm... biggest surprise: Probably Duke Nukem II, I hadn't played it for many years and found that after all this time, I still really enjoyed the arcade style run & gun gameplay

Biggest disappointment: Probably Worms, though only because for some reason, on my laptop at least, the sound is out of sync by just a little bit (so that for example a bazooka bullet is in the air for half a second before the firing noise plays) which is incredibly annoying! Given that no one else has reported this I've assumed it's just bad luck with my particular configuration. Besides technical difficulties I've been happy with all my Gog purchases!
