tinyE: If it is okay with the OP I'd like to throw another option in here, best game you thought you'd regret but ended up loving.

Faenrir: Hey that's actually a good idea...
And i'd answer FTL to that :p
Hmmm, maybe I should check that out.
Mine is Icewind Dale 1.

Perfectly fine with me, though add in "Best Gift you thought you would hate", too.

Best game I thought I would regret is probably King of Dragon Pass. I'm still learning it, but it's very good. I literally bought it to stop someone from bugging me about buying it, though.

Best gift I thought I would hate was Zafehouse Diaries. Once they added in the sandbox mode and custom content manager, at least. Before then it was every bit as dreadful as I'd imagined it to be.
I don't really have regrets for any of them. The closest would probably be Snapshot as after I bought it, it appeared in a humble bundle a couple hours later. It was part of a bundle to get some other games I wanted cheap, so no big deal.

Favorite purchase would probably be FTL I got at $4.
Biggest regret: The Guild. Why? Because I found out they had tons of improvements on newer versions and they happened to be on sale when I looked, so I nabbed that cheap and basically wasted money on an older version of the same game with less stuff. Considered a donation to GOG.

Favorite purchase: MOO3 (don't wanna hear it from anyone, my first 4x and one of my favs) and UFO Aftershock, my DVD had starforce on it that burnt out one of my DVD drives and I love that game to this day. GOG let me play it without risk or DRM. I still do a playthrough with or without mods twice a year the past 4 years so far.

pds41: Postal Complete and Uncut for biggest regret - not that it's a bad game - it's the Zoolander-esque "uni-turner" bug that gets me.
avatar
tinyE: There are patches for that, but finding them is a bitch.
I found one a while ago, but Postal Dude only turned left at half speed, and all the enemies do some weird spinning thing, as if mocking him, when they die.

Oh well, I think I saw somewhere that the devs were fixing, but it's taking forever for them to do it/get it to GoG
Regret: Wizardy 6 & 7 (Mistook it for 8) is my most costly regret

Best Win/Win: Ark Fatalis (the first or second game I bought here)
My biggest regret:
The Book of Unwritten Tales - It's fairly bland and uses many tiring tropes as jokes except they seem to be funny probably to persons who seek these tropes in their games

My favorite purchase:
Blackwell Bundle - I would probably haven't persuaded myself into buying it but it was on deep sale and in my favorite store with users whose tastes I know praising it, so I went for it. And now I have another favorite developer to root for :).
Regret : Evolva - damn I don't know what is the only redeeming quality of this game... and I realy tried hard.
Good surprise : Messiah - I didn't expected it to be so fun (at least for me) I had a blast playing it.

Regret:
Postal = junk
Evoland = short, unbalanced, boring, "borrows" too much from other games.
Simon the sorcerer 3D = I was drunk.

Favorite:
Psychonauts = a pleasant surprise.
Might and magic games = childhood games.

RedRagan: My library is not that big yet but I think Empire Earth is a boring game *ducking from stuff thrown from angry EE fans"
Bro fist. IMHO Empire Earth is not only utterly boring but has amazingly stupid game design. And other people don't seem to see it. It sometimes makes me feel like I'm the last survivor in a trashy old horror movie where all other inhabitants of my village have been brainwashed or something.

Still, don't regret buying it nor beating the campaign (which was an atrocious experience). At least I've got to know a "classic". Same goes for all other games I own on GOG. I love getting to know games, no matter how good or bad.

Licurg: King of Dragon Pass - I bought it without knowing anything about it
Then that is your own fault for not doing research beforehand.
So far, it's definitely Messiah, followed by Abe's Exodus and Abe's Oddysee. At least I bought them all on a promo. But I am worrying much about new Amnesia.. I guess pre-ordering it wasn't the best idea :/

EDIT: Come to think of it, To the Moon and Darwinia were disappointments too..

Biggest regret is Jack Orlando. It is one of the worst adventure games ever and even worse I play it after playing the last express. You pick up objects just to pick them up, I know he was a drunk but these objects had no use.

Favourite I would say Phantasmagoria just a fun game. Apart from the end if you don't know what you are doing
Biggest regret - Shogo - it's an overrated corridor shooter it seems, got stuck and didn't care.
Runner up - PoP Warrior Within - the most annoying game.
