Here's hoping that most people have already figured this out on their own, but just in case: 16 hours of motion capture data for sex scenes does not equal to 16 hours of actual in-game sex. ( This could be good or bad news, depending on your personal expectations. :D ) This is the total amount of capture data, for all of the actors of these scenes combined, possibly also including scenes which were never used for the final game.

I doubt sex scenes will be much longer or more elaborate than in the previous game, but you will probably have more options for potential partners, perhaps even including male characters... ? And I figure they probably wanted to provide several variations of the actual sex sequences, so you don't see the same thing every time. Since they're going for a bigger, and more open world this time around, it makes sense that they're trying to provide more content and options to the players, apparently including the sex!

Personally I kinda like this element of the Witcher series. These games have always been aimed towards adults, not just because of the violence, dark themes and sex, but also the mature style of story-telling. They're not meant for kids, and I think the sexual themes, along with the gore etc. suit the dark, medieval Fantasy setting well.

At the end of the day, I suspect the majority of these scenes will be optional once again, so it's up to the player to decide whether or not they want it to be a part of their game experience -- 's all good.

This. I really can't be arsed to get involved in the ridiculous "rape culture" arguments, but this bit should be easy and not really controversial in any way.

For any sort of video scene, be it in a movie, a documentary, a newscast or a mocap scene in a video game, you need a lot more raw footage than the scene itself takes up. A lot more. The finished scene is edited together from bits of footage from different takes, different angles, different lines, each of which are shot for the entire duration of the scene. I'd be surprised if 16 hours of raw mocap data translates to much more than 1 hour of actual game time.

You sound like an expert here Wishbone. Are you an adult film producer, and if you are, can I have your autograph?

No, and no ;-p

But I have been involved in the production of both short films and newscasts, so for once I'm not just talking out of my ass ;-)
I'm a bit torn here. I personally believe an artist has the right to make any art they wish and I feel that if people like it then they should be able to enjoy it. But personally I just kinda don't like how the Witcher series handles sex, they have a right to do it and other people like it, but I don't. For me it's a problem that plagues modern fantasy fiction. I just find that a lot of Fantasy fiction has sex because they're gritty and real and so sex must be a part of the story and often times they just kinda put it there ontop of a rather lame relationship that uses sex to try and make it so much more.

This use of sex just tends to alienate me, like the message is real men and women have sex and that's as far as the message goes and it does nothing for me but leave me not wanting to continue with the story. I just feel it's a bit too common in the fantasy theme these days. I'm not saying it shouldn't be there and I'm very glad that CDPR has the right to make a game sex in it the way they want, I'm just saying that I don't like it, but not everything is for me and I do hope that people enjoy The Wicher 3 even if I can't.

It's kinda funny and I feel like I'm being a bit hypocritical with this since I enjoy games and other stuff that's just porn, where the sex is there for there for the viewer and it's unapologetic. It's for me to enjoy and doesn't end up trying to be a half assed motivation, trying to be something deeper when the writer is incapable of doing so.

Also if we're talking about Rape Culture in the western world, it's bullshit. We treat rape as bad as murder, worse than murder in some ways. If you want Rape Culture, look at places like the Congo or India (though to be fair, Indians are starting to fight and protest their rape culture so they're having a positive change.) Freedom of Speech and Justice's assumption of Innocence are not rape culture, they're human rights.

James175: Come on guys. You do not need 16 hours of sex in your game to make a person care about a character. You are turning your game into nothing more than a porn game that objectifies women and adds fuel to the growing rape culture.
Seriously ? This is very silly...

First as mentioned it's the motion capture session that took 16 hours, it doesn't means that there was going to be 16 hours of sex in W3, for what we know it could end up being less that an hour once everything is edited together.

Also how two adults characters having consensual sex is "adding fuel to the rape culture" exactly ?.

I find it pretty silly/sad that on one side peoples says that games must grow as an "art form" but at the same time when they try to touch more adult subject and theme like sex, rape, etc... they get slammed for it. We have rape/sex/incest in Games of Thrones or others TV series, I don't see why those subjects should be taboo in games.

It has been many years since I was curious to see a game because of it's adult content......
Anyone remember Shadow warrior and the nude chicks in it? Now, anyone remember of the game Lula:The sex empire...... That was an Adult game!

Oh yeah!
"Lead Foot" was my favorite because here we have drunk driving causing countless deaths every year, and they totally ignored that, making it look as if just going over the speed limit was the real problem. XD

Oh and don't forget "Angle Dusted" with Oscar winner Helen Hunt. :D

Are you saying you're not going to be playing the game because it has sex scenes? Because that would be weird. Of course people are free to make all sorts of weird decisions, for all sorts of weird reasons... but still.

As I mentioned in my other post, it's likely that most or all of these scenes will be optional once again. And either way, it's strange how some people make it sound like these sex scenes are all there is to The Witcher 3. CDPR are building a huge interactive Fantasy world with this game, and this is but a tiny facet of what the game has to offer. If you're not into it, just enjoy the million other things you can see and do in the game.
