Only a day after 13.2, we present 13.3. And there is a bit of a story here.

But in short: we made a mistake with 13.2.1, and need to release a 13.3 with no functional change to make sure multiplayer games work as expected.

For the full story:

Shortly after releasing 13.2 it was noticed that Windows users couldn’t play on fullscreen mode anymore. This of course requires a quick new release (13.2.1), and as it was a fix only changing how a window on Windows is created, we wanted to make it compatible with 13.2. Our way of being nice, and not forcing everyone to upgrade before they can play together again.

Well, we kinda failed in this department.

The mentioned fix was trivial, and making sure a 13.2.1 client could join a 13.2 server (and the other way around) was trivial too. But we also noticed another mistake in the 13.2 release: Windows binaries still had 13.1 in their metadata. So why not fix that as well, right?

Turns out, we overlooked a small thing: although the 13.2.1 client identifies as a 13.2 client in every way, the NewGRF validation does not. When you join a server two checks are done: is the client of the same version (13.2), and is the client using the same NewGRF revision. The first worked fine .. the second turns out to use the same field as the Windows binaries use for their metadata (and for all the right reasons, in case you are wondering).

Oops.

So basically, 13.2.1 is compatible with 13.2, but you can’t actually join a 13.2 server with a 13.2.1 client (and the other way around) because of the NewGRF revision check. So our attempt in being nice kinda failed.

The only resolution of which we know will work for sure is making a new release: 13.3. And that is all what this release is: a rebranding of 13.2.1, and no longer claim it is compatible with 13.2. Sadly, this does mean that all servers need updating again before clients who updated can join again. And all that because one tiny mistake in the 13.2 release.

All that is left is to apologize for the inconvenience, but we hope you enjoy 13.2 (and the fix for Windows fullscreen in 13.2.1 / 13.3) nevertheless!

And yes, we will try our at most to avoid a similar problem in the future!

Also it seems that blue dots for updated games are broken once again. At least for Amnesia: The Bunker and System Shock Remake I did not see any dots appear showing me those games as updated.

Hey Drifters!
The Quality of Life: Housing update is here!

Changes to morale back in patch 0.6 unfortunately resulted in the removal of multi-drifter housing. However, we understand the importance to proper neighborhood building, so we set out to reintroduce it while keeping it in line with the new design. You now have the option to build solo and duo houses, as well as a boarding house that provides temporarily shelter to drifters.

Furthermore, we've implemented some other improvements, such as a small map movement update: Previously, clicking behind the boat on the map would cause the town to turn towards that location. However, we've made a change to make the town reverse to that spot instead. This option is in addition to reversing by holding both mouse buttons, and should smooth map movement.

What's next?

Next up is the Architect specialist! We've heard your requests for the ability to relocate constructions. It posed some challenges and had us flabbergasted for a while, given the game's setup, but we found a solution. Enter: the Architect, a specialist that allows you to go into 'Architect Mode' and completely re-plan your entire town, re-think pipelines,... or simply move a few buildings around :)

Early Access 0.7.4: QoL: Housing

Version 0.7.4 is a small Quality of Life patch that updates housing and offers new housing options.

Housing

• Changed housing constructions. Known houses are now: Solo Tent, Solo Shack, Solo Cottage.
• Added new housing for two drifters at once: Duo Tent, Duo Shack, Duo Cottage.
• Added new house: Boarding House. This house provides a home for 5 drifters but can not be upgraded.
• Solo Cottage, Duo Shack and Duo Cottage have decoration slots on them.
• Reworked all housing visuals.
• You can now assign drifters to different houses.

Town Movement

• Clicking behind the boat will now make the boat go in reverse instead of trying to rotate towards that location. This is in addition to holding both mouse buttons to reverse.

Animations

• Added animation for the Recycler.
• Added animation for the Toolmaker.
• Added animation for the Doctor treating a patient.
• Added animation for patients in Med Pods.
• Added animation for the Apothecary.
• Added animation for gathering dead wood.
• Added animation for collecting landmark salvageables from the ground.
