tarasis: Newest beta won't open for me. Says "Failed to load game database"

-- Edit --

Bug report added http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=5714

Looking at the logs, seems to be choking on "Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos"

"Critical exception during ClientCore task LoadProductsTask: Error Message: Product Settings for 1207658873 not found in DB."
avatar
Bethezer: I have the same error message "Failed to load game database", but I do not even own Independence War 2... where I can check what causes the error in my case, so I can add it to your mantis ticket?
Hey, thanks for info and sorry it broke.

If you'd compress (eg. to zip) and upload logs to the mantis issue that Tarasis created, it will be enough. We'll take a look what happened there and try to deduce what is causing the errors

TheTomasz: Hey, ...

toxicTom: Hey back. In my case everything seems to go smoothly so far. Just saying, because usually only the people with problems give feedback :-)
Thanks for info :)

Snowman59: Hi there,

So I have a problem since a couple of hours : GOG Galaxy doesn't open anymore, I got the message "Fatal Error : Failed to load game database".

I don't know what happened, everything was fine today until I tried to open Galaxy, an update was downloading and then stopped with the message above.

Any idea how to solve that ?

Thanks in advance.

tarasis: Add to my bug report, http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=5714 , upload your logs and storage folders.

The way to be able to use Galaxy is to delete your Storage folder, which will make galaxy forget all the games you have currently installed. Then re-import the games using the "scan & import from GOG Galaxy logo menu" per TheTomasz on the bug thread.
What tarasis said :)

Warrgarbl: Is there some way to rename the games in the GoG Galaxy list? The reason I am asking is that Realms of Arkania 1&2 are called as such, whilst Realms of Arkania 3 is correctly translated to German. This hurts my OCD since the games are not grouped together, and it even is a German game, after all: Is there any way...?
Can you trigger refreshing data for those games and click them, go to the Game View, and check if it's OK now? :)
avatar
cristhianfs: Apparently the latest beta update made the startup of the galaxy client very slow, like 20+ seconds on a SSD drive, is there a fix for this? Are you aware of the issue? Thanks
Hey,

we are not aware of consistent slow startup on newest Beta update. The first start of Galaxy might take a little longer as it is migrating some data from the previous version of Galaxy, but all subsequent launches should not encounter that situation.

So if your GOG Galaxy is consequently launching slow, please fill a report on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to find the issue.

Also please note, that if installation or update of a game is in progress during GOG Galaxy start, that might also influence startup time
avatar
cristhianfs: I have roughly 372 games, maybe what causes the delay is the building of that library. I'll keep checking, hoping in future versions this gets fixed. Thanks!
We will definitely aim to get this fixed. :) This is important for us too.
avatar
Johny.: Can you trigger refreshing data for those games and click them, go to the Game View, and check if it's OK now? :)
avatar
Warrgarbl: Oh, wow! That was quick - very cool, thank you! However, now it looks like this:

Das schwarze Auge 2: Sternenschweif
Das schwarze Auge: Schatten über Riva
Das schwarze Auge: Schicksalsklinge

I'd suggest either removing the number from Sternenschweif or adding the numbers to the others, too (which I would prefer). However, it's actually "Die Schicksalsklinge", to be correct.

Thank you for your quick reaction! Really amazed by this :)
Try now and let us now how's your OTS after that. ;)

pkk234: So I've had a problem loggin in through Galaxy for months now. It's minimal, but annoying.

Either A:
I enter my information, press enter, and the same box asking for my info comes up, as if I hadn't done it right before.

Or B:
I enter my information, press enter, and a box appears with options to change my profile pic, password and something else I forgot.

In both cases I have to click outside of those boxes, get the unlogged in Galaxy into focus, then click on 'Connect Now' or something to log-in successfully. It happens often enough that I'm used to it now.
If you wish, you can click "monitor" on the issue here (log in to http://mantis.gog.com first):
http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=5726
Another user reported the same thing.

Two questions for you: do you log out before closing GOG Galaxy? Do you have the option "Keep me logged in" unchecked?

I cannot reproduce this in any way. :(
avatar
rakenan: Ever since 1.2.42, GoG Galaxy is completely non-functional for me. It just shows a blank white screen. If I wait a really long time, it turns into a blank black screen, which is not a meaningful improvement.
This might be an issue that we have a fix for, which will be released very soon. Please wait with report until new version of GOG Galaxy. :) 1.2.43 (not beta)

BuggyBoii: There is no resume support in the software like on steam?
Hi and thanks for checking GOG Galaxy!
Galaxy does have a resume system which should work in typical cases (like closing the application or pausing download manually) in such cases we expect data loss to be up to 100MB (usually significantly less). In the case of hard power cutoffs the loss in data my be larger due to many factors like the size of file that is currently downloaded, the way the particular game build is constructed and more.
In the case of Witcher 3 and power cutoffs I've seen data losses up to hundreds of megs, which is higher then we would like it to be, but we hope it shouldn't ruin the experience even in extreme conditions.
Note in the case of download breaking, we have to balance between not losing data, having fast download and keeping GOG Galaxy responsive. This is why we've accepted that some data may be lost in order to keep the general experience smooth.

Did your download resumed after power loss or you had to restart manually? After actual download is started (which is indicated by a status and the download speed higher than zero being displayed) it should always resume, even if some data were lost. Please let us know if that wasn't the case for you.

Hey,

great news today! We have released a new version of GOG Galaxy. It is 1.2.43 now and it brings quite nice improvements.

As a followup change in GOG Galaxy due to release of Profiles (https://www.gog.com/news/introducing_gog_profiles), when you click on a friend in GOG Galaxy it will open their profile page!

We have also added a way to dismiss our desktop notification, with right-click of your mouse. I love this change:)

The problem you guys have reported with downloads sometimes getting stuck at 99% and speed going down to few kb/s should also be fixed. Random one chunk of download was not being cooperative and GOG Galaxy will dismiss it much faster than before now.

The rest the changes can be found in the changelog as always.

Cheers
Hey,

we've got reports that after last update (1.2.43) GOG Galaxy is crashing. Worry not, there is an easy workaround for it :)

The crash may only happen when GOG Galaxy is being launched by one of game's shortcuts on the desktop and the game is not updated to the latest version.

That is probably not most common situation, but still may happen.

Workaround is simple, you can choose one:
- Launch GalaxyClient.exe from GOG Galaxy installation directory (Default: C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy)
- Open Start Menu, look for GOG galaxy and launch it

We are working on a fix, it will be probably released next week.

necrofile: Those links install Galaxy.

Edit: I was mistaken. It added the games to Galaxy and launched it after install but I can run them without it. Apologies.
avatar
PassiveZombie: Along these lines, I just picked Ziggurat up for free (thanks, GOG). I noticed that a large blue "Download with GOG Galaxy" button is quite prominent, and I had to search for the game files. I noticed that such is the case for several other games that were not previous on Galaxy. Is this a transition to having Galaxy associated with every game out there and, eventually, making it impossible to avoid? It certainly seems to be heading in that direction.
This change is related to our recent introduction of web installers. You can read more about it in its topic. In particular, here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/introducing_web_installers_for_all_gog_games/post1
and here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/introducing_web_installers_for_all_gog_games/post132

TL;DR: web installers replace the Galaxy-bundled installers. The "classic" offline installers are not going anywhere :) You can find them in the dropdown below the big blue button (click "Download offline backup game installers").

Hey,

we have released GOG Galaxy version 1.2.44.

The release is aimed to fix problems with installations and crash when GOG Galaxy is started by game's desktop shortcut.

Nguy_n___c_H_nh: Updated Galaxy to 1.2.7, but Witcher 3 isn't running any more.
witcher3 exe appears in the task manager, using one cpu core and ram usage is rising and rising. Game doesn't start
That's...a rather old version of Galaxy. Can you update it to 1.2.44?

As for Witcher 3, please make sure you are running the latest drivers for your graphics card.

BKGaming: Between the slow fixes and long drawn out major updates (hello 1.3 where are you?) I can understand the frustration. For sure a lot of us would like to see more progress.

GOG's inability to communicate with us on these issues is also frustrating, we need more and deserve more info on Galaxy
We are preparing something very special for you all, and we're working hard on Galaxy Client now. :) Works didn't slow down - just the opposite. We will not share details about changes that are incoming, though.
