Let me say this. Most student discounts do not count after a certain age, and I cannot make myself a senior citizen to have a discount. Certainly not everyone fits those criteria.
I don't have as much of a problem with developers giving a specific region a break be it because of strange monetary evaluation or buying power. I don't even have a problem with regional pricing where the price is a direct reflection of the added taxes paid. In reality, in the US, my state charges a Use Tax which is applied at the end of the year. So I am paying taxes on my purchases (although the state bases this directly on income unless one itemizes all their out-of-state purchases). Theoretically, I am paying 6% more than the GoG price. (In truth less if I spend more than the state expects and more if I spend less).
I think what most people find as the biggest problem with regional pricing is that some developers charge far more than even justified through VAT. They seem to charge whatever they feel they can get away with and for some regions that can be 50% more than U.S.
And for the record, I called you naive for claiming that everyone should pay Russian prices now (for example $8.19) for a game that days ago retailed for $20 just because there is now regional pricing and claiming this is the only fair thing to do. That is far beyond "fair" that is greedy retributive and doesn't really contribute to the discussion.
