monkeydelarge: I'm not a Christian and I think most of the bible is BS but recently I have come across Youtube videos made by Christians that explain why Obama can not be the antichrist. Showing such videos to those family members of yours might convince them they are wrong and make your life easier.
Melchizedek2405: If only it were that easy, these are the kinds of people who think that all scientists are part of a scheme to discredit the bible by forcing everyone to accept evolution. One member of my family until recently thought all fossils ever found were fakes.
I have tried to explain to them myself why it isn't true (I actually happen to know a good bit of theology through university courses and my own study) but they would rather stick their fingers in their ears and go lalala instead of examining anything that might cause them to question their beliefs. Thanks fur the suggestion though.
I tend to not talk about religion with my family, especially the devout Christians. A few of them whenever I visit during holidays ask me to go to church with them, but I just say no thanks and do not go into the spiel that I am an Atheist. That would not go over well with some of my family. Some of them know that I am either Agnostic or Atheist and don't push the issue. If they asked I'd probably tell them, but it's not something I offer. As for friends, coworkers if they bring it up I will let them know, but I don't go out of my way advertising that fact. Now I will defend my point of view, but I try to leave religion out of the conversation until it is brought up.
Thankfully, the family I have that are devout, are not assholes about it, except for the frowning on cursing thing, asking me to go to church, and praying before a meal (thankfully no hand holding and I am not asked to say grace). So, I either stare at my food for the few minutes of the prayer salivating or take a few minute nap during.
