P1na: The police tend to not like me, they usually stop me for no reason.
So, something like this would be appropriate?

DieRuhe: I'm schizoid, and how people perceive me is really of no interest to me. The good thing about it is I generally don't care. I can fake it, and I can mirror well enough to "fit in" if I feel it's necessary, but when all is said and done, I much prefer to just avoid people altogether. I'm sure this may sometimes make people think I'm "aloof" or "distant" or "cold" or "emotionless" (I get that last one a lot), but as I said - so what? :-) I can beat you to death with writing, but actually speaking to someone? No thank you.
When do you feel it's necessary to fit in?

JMich: So, something like this would be appropriate?
Not quite. I also get stopped at bus stations a lot, and last time I got in Japan via ferry I was singled out, stripped and my Belgian chocolate souvenirs were analyzed for, you know, no real reason whatsoever. And yet, when I actually got to pass by New York, all I got was a bored question about how long I was staying and they let me go through right away. Madness, I say! I was so looking forward to the crazy questioning, I want my money back! ...Then again, I did shave before that trip.

Thus the "something like" part. You can always see how much you can customize this shirt. Add a dot each time you are questioned perhaps?

That actually sounds like a lot fun. I'll have to look into it.

worlddan: One of my older brothers has two wonderful children but I am not allowed to speak to them or have any contact with them. Why? Because my older brother is quite wealthy and I am not. He thinks--I am not joking--that because I am poor, relatively speaking, that I will be a bad influence on them and the only way they will grow up to be rich like him is to hang around other rich people. He told this directly to my face.

I was depressed about it for some time but I realized that my having less money is just the excuse. For whatever reason he has decided he doesn't like me and doesn't want me in his life and money is an excuse he can use to justify his behavior. I don't like to think about it because even now it still makes me sad.

If people want to hate they will find a reason to hate--it is simple as that. People decide to hate first--they make the reason afterword.
Eh.. what? What a stupid "reason", real or not.

Fortunately I have nothing to add to this topic. Well I'm a nerd and they're always bullied a bit at school but that's about it. :)

No. But then again, I don't drive, so maybe I do on a subconscious level. I'll have to reflect on that.

CatintheHeat: I don't want the thread becoming a flame war. I probably gave out too much information. I have a tendency to do that. I won't bring up the fact that I'm transgender again here.
I just wanted to say +1 and keep your head up. It is of course your own decision how open you want to be about your condition in public. I can totally understand that there are and will always be idiots that will pick on people for simply being different and therefore "not becoming a target" is a valid choice.

You've been incredibly courageous with your coming out already, and I think that is exactly what the world needs. We wouldn't have come that far in terms of gay rights (though there is certainly still a lot to do even in the western world) if there hadn't been more and more people outing themselves, often at the risk of losing jobs, social standing - in some areas even wellbeing or life.

The most intolerant people come from uniform environments - you can see it here in Germany were the Neonazi/right wing conservative density is highest in rural areas with no foreigners to speak of. I think the best recipe against intolerance is promoting the richness of the world.

When I was in my teens I lived in a rural area (first village, then small town). I was known for my "extravagant" outfit - namely wearing only plain black clothes and a brimmed black hat. I didn't really get into trouble because of this, but I sometimes very nearly caused traffic accidents just walking along the road, because people would turn and stare.
When I went to Berlin (my father used to live there) in the same outfit - a very colorful and diverse city - nobody even noticed me.
I'm embarrassed in the country I live in. First of all many Americans think they are better than anyone else and think my country should be worshipped as the standard bearer of the perfect government. Although the constitution was meant to do that, if the people don't live by a certain set of standards themselves, the document becomes worthless and can be bent any way desired.

The democratic republic has morphed into a plutocracy/oligarchy where the global corporations and the very wealthy have almost all the power. The government is basically bought and paid for and are puppets to this group. Most of the citizens know something is up, but many are blind to the actual cause. They are manipulated into what to think. The liberals and conservatives absolutely hate each other to the point of no trust at all. I believe that is done on purpose to keep the eye of the real disease of the country.

The sickness of The US is centered on greed and the courts giving the corporations too much power. Corporations are considered a person and therefore have the same rights. If they lose money because of government action they much be compensated for their lost revenue by government. They can spend unlimited amounts of money for political campaigns. That makes the politician, especially on the federal level become phone solicitors, and spending less and less time legislating. They spend more time on the phone than doing their job. That is why they are bought and paid for. When you that consider global corporations have no loyalty to any country, just their bottom line, you can understand the problems of the country.

People do not get involved in politics like they should. Their votes are based more often on fear than anything else. Television advertising for candidates is almost always misleading and is based on how bad the other candidate is, or an issue, instead of building up a candidate is supporting. It really does manipulate voter. No decision should ever be based solely on fear.

When seen in this view you can begin to understand the insanity of the country. Why we are a country where the majority of citizens deny climate change. Why we are the only country in the world that doesn't have a health plan that covers all citizens, why income inequality is becoming worse by the day, why we have poisoned or good and soil where other countries won't even eat our GMO/chemically poisoned food.

Of course I could get into the religious zealots who want a more puritanical society based on their distorted view of Christianity. But they have been held in check for the most part.

I would break down the US government into various categories, not so much by political parties anymore. You have the social conservatives, or religious zealots, on the right, the tea party who claims to be for freedom but is actually supporting the very wealthy (like the Koch Brothers) who manipulate their thinking through super pacs (Freedomworks, Americans for Prosperity, etc...) whose goal is to extremely limit the size of government so they can do what they want, the corporatists that includes both Democrats and Republicans who do the bidding of global corporations who don't have the interest of the people at heart, and the progressives (where I fit in) who are people centered and want what is in the best interest for the country and the world to make it a better place to live for all.

Instead of the US becoming the standard bearer of the world, they have become the laughing stock of the world. We are the perfect example of what can happen to a republic when things go wrong, and what to avoid.

I will say that if I was in charge of TSA, I would be confiscating those. They are just too dangerous and delicious not to be devoured on site.

You could always ride into the next town, go to the library and ask for a paper copy of the internet. I'm sure they'll be happy to print out a copy for you...
