Sine Mora. It's fucking annoying. The idea of mixing horizontal sidescroll shooting with Bullet Hell isn't actually too bad in my opinion, but the execution is flawed.

First of all, using 3D graphics on a 2D game is acceptable, but here it does cause problems because it's often impossible to tell when an enemy is in the same horizontal plane as you and whether or not you can hit them. This is doubly annoying because many enemies move sideways (relative to your character), into and out of your line of fire, and your job is to just suck it up. One boss appears from behind, obviously far away in the background, but you can still hit the bastard, so it's not even consistent.

Secondly, it's hard to tell how big your hitbox is. I think it must be pretty damn big, because I get hit very often. I'm not even crap at Bullet Hell games, it's just that the hitbox is big, enemy shots are big and they move very fast, unlike in any other Bullet Hell I've played so far.

Third, the controls are bollocks. You can't customize them enough for one thing, but my main gripe is that the mouse and the keyboard are both needed: the mouse for small, precise movement (say, avoiding a cloud of flak in a boss battle), whereas the keyboard is more useful for long, sweeping motions (such as making a big evasive manouvre at a boss battle). Switching between the two is far from smooth.

Fourth, any game where you die from touching a wall is bullshit. Seriously, what is this, Silver Surfer NES? Worse still, many levels are semi-mazes. Yeah, really funny.

Five, other bullshit deaths. One level kills you if you don't move within five seconds after the beginning. Even if you manage to avoid the instant death and the wall that it puts you in collision course with, there's another bullshit death incoming within a couple of seconds after that.

Dear lord. Fuck this game.
F.E.A.R.

So far I've completed 7 out of 12 Intervals and the game doesn't live up to it's reputation. It's supposed to be this scary-as-all-hell shooter but the only frightening aspect is the freakishly clever AI. The way opponents constantly attempt (and succeed) to flank you, make perfect use of the level architecture by switching positions and are able to find alternative routes through the level, suddenly attacking you from behind, is nothing short of impressive. It's 8 years old but completely wipes the floor with any given modern shooter AI I've ever seen and doesn't even break a sweat.

The universally praised horror elements however have become quite stale and derivative. I remember playing the demo in 2005 and being scared shitless 90% of the time. Unfortunately in the 8 years since I've seen just about every Japan style horror film known to man (and some not known to man, too), both originals and US remakes. Consequently, the Ringu inspired scares centered around little red-dressed Alma simply fall flat. And with it the whole horror atmosphere.

In the demo gameplay experience was something like this:
"Oh god, oh god, oh g–did that shadow just move? *stares into shadows for ten minutes* No. Okay. Okay. You can do this. Just move. There you go. Just keep mo–GIRL! GIRL! AAAAAAAAH! *runs screaming like, well, a girl*"

In 2013 it's more like this:
"Crap! Please, no more soldiers! *breathes* Okay, slowly around that corner. *peeks out* All quiet. Good. Over to the next corner. Slowly. Slowly. Keep alert. Hi, Alma. Slowly... *inches forward*"

timppu: And I kinda hate those vapor trail spirits (steam!) or whatever that seem to be invincible. At least I haven't found a way to destroy them. Since you can only run away from them and they keep coming back, they take the fun out of searching the environment for secrets and stuff.
Mashadar is virtually indestructible. You see it, you run the other way as fast as you can. It's even toned down from the books. There it touches you and you're dead. Deadest you could possibly be. Count yourself lucky that it only hurts you in the game.

Later in the game you'll find the Balefire ter'angreal (think railgun spell) that can at least hurt it and make it retreat for a while.

But I guess I've seen worse... I can't really comprehend the story either, I'm some sorceror chick running after some bad guy who tries to evade me, killing monsters on the way.
Yeah, having read the books really helps. Although then you might get annoyed at the liberties they took in some regards.

Far Cry & Tenchu stealth assassins
A small handful, but right now I'm mainly focusing on Neverwinter Nights, Driftwood, Sacred 2, XCOM:EU.
I just completed Sine Mora with an XBox controller. It was more tolerable but still not very good. Can't recommend.
Galerians for the PS1. Once you've spent ages figuring out how to get out of the first room, it's actually quite an intriguing game.
Gone back to playing MoH AA again after shelving it for a little while. Finally beat that stupid sniper level. Those bastards have such a rapid-lock-on homing skill it's ridiculous. I actually finished the main game today and moved on to Spearhead. Frankly, I much more like the level design of the expansion and the narrative/cutscenes between missions are better too so far. ... That music is still superb. Definitely one of the best game soundtracks.

Out of curiosity I also took a gander at its multiplayer and I was kind of surprised that it's still somewhat alive even. Had a few quick, fun rounds.
Think I'm gonna go play the new XCOM again. Had it for awhile but took a break and never went back. Need to give it another go maybe.
Almost at the end of Wolfenstein 2009 - Solid shooter from Raven, wacky fun most modern games avoid.

Finished Dishonored: Knife of Dunwall expansion. Top, top quality. Awesome missions.

Started Bioshock again after Infinite but I replayed it somewhat recently so I probably won't get too far.

Probably going to head back into Dead Space 3 soon.
Warframe. Surprised me as im not a big fan of F2P (and i have tons of PAID games ive yet to touch including BI etc...)

Also chipping away at Spec Ops :)

More Dark Souls, been playing the latest patch (after getting stuck with the original none-capped curse stacks). I think I might be going crazy, did Dark Souls get easier with later patches?

Also been playing:

-Super Paper Mario, so far it's a hell of a lot better than Sticker Star.
-Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams.

Good pick sir, one of the best surivival of its time, only short, slow and definitely rated M for drugs.

For me i got DOOM 3 BFG and started it, not bad an early Dead Space it feels for now.. Also Dragon Ball Z Tag Team for my PSP, quite impressive engine for such a device.

Just finished a low chaos playthrough of The Knife of Dunwall (Dishonored DLC). Good stuff.

Tomorrow I'll do my high chaos playthrough, which is going to be wonderful. As much as I love the stealth approach, the many ways of killing everyone in this game are just too much fun.

How is BFG? I've got D3 and the expansion, is it worth paying for BFG? I've hear the early Dooms are censored and that there are some sound glitches.

Most imortanty, D3 runs perfectly on my system as is. If they did a major upgrade of everything I fear it may be the straw that breaks the camels back and totally kill my framefrate. Very seriously consodering this purchase so any info would be greatly appreciated.

ps What is with the flashlight change? I keep hearing mixed reviews on that. :D
