Which side are you on, boy?

Black Moon Chronicles, an epic fantasy RTS about choosing the right ally and going to war, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Wismerhill is not a hero, yet when he comes into possession of a small kingdom, he knows he must become one and fast. War is brewing and the half-elf must choose who to side with, in order to ensure that the kingdom of Garundel does not get swallowed whole by the tidal waves of history.
Wismerhill can fight alongside one of four factions, each with its own personality, units, and unique advantages. Throughout his adventure he will hire new soldiers, research new unit types, spells, and abilities, fortify his castle, and pit his regiments against those of his enemies. Preparation for battle is key, but the tactical decisions you make during the real-time combat may prove to be of equal -if not greater- importance. Will you manage to maintain, and perhaps even expand the kingdom of Garundel amidst the chaos?

Guide an upstart king towards greatness and rewrite the Black Moon Chronicles, DRM-free on GOG.com.

JudasIscariot: Well, Black Moon Chronicles: Winds of War was inspired by the same comic as Black Moon Chronicles but it's a multiplayer-only game.
Thanks, didn't know that :)

tfishell: Neat. :) I'm curious what else is worth releasing (and not legally entangled) here:

A ton of stuff, really: Lost Eden, KGB, The Raven Project, Versailles 1685, Ubik and many other impressive games. Not sure about the legal status though.
This is a beautiful looking game, but is there's one thing I hate about these old RTS's it's the terrible pathfinding

SolDaeDra: Seriously, GOG, is it really that hard to address this?

Minimal requirements are based on what the game was tested on. We don't explicitly say that the game won't work otherwise but we won't support it either.

You guys have systems with 1 GB of Ram and 1 GHZ Processors? O_o

Edit: Nvm, just realized you guys are probably using VM's. :P

In case it helps; I made a photo from the games box this morning of the specs about 3 posts above yours.
And I can confirm it doesn not require 4GB RAM, cause I don't have them and it works. ^.^

Hell yeah!

Lots of folks mentioning Lost Eden here, so please vote it up!

And that's the problem. If somebody doesn't have a system meeting those requirements and something doesn't work, they're out of luck, even if it's not really because of the lower specs.

And there should really be some old computers in QA for these games. Plus, can't VM software simulate said lower specs anyway?
Has anyone tried to run the GOG version of this game under Linux/Wine?

The WineHQ entry doesn't look too promising.

rampancy: So...any word on WINE compatibility?

I tired it in crossover 15.1.0. It works after installing .NET 4. I also have the music after using winmm override (which I think would require patching the game in normal wine - this seems to be a common issue with several Windows games from GOG). However, it is very sluggish on my notebook's intel graphic card (GM45), and the sound stutters. I haven't tried completing missions/skirmish yet, so I can't say whether it works beyond the first few minutes of gameplay.

I too really would love to see testing on lower-specced machines done. Now it often remains a guess operation whether a game could possibly run on hardware weaker than one with the perhaps exaggerated requirements stated on the game card.

Agree. Some of us here don't have stroong pcs, so it suddenly rising the requirements of old game to that level is a bit strange... especially if this would meant no support.

It's a bit of an odd practice not testing in that area given that GOG caters to a nostalgia-drunk crowd (incl. myself) which more than any other demographic has older hardware they cherish (and sometimes only that to work with).
