I am confused and puzzled here...
I mean, it is a 25th anniversary ok i get it, it is ported on switch so that's why it comes out all of a sudden???
What i also know is that a different "remastered" version was published in 2013 (20th anniversary, so, i'd guess) by ubisoft.
I'm not here to debat or assess weither the 2013 version was good or not; i just state an obvious fact: this 2013 version displayed an blatant graphical overhaul. And controller supports too (as it appeared first on XBLA, Xbox Live Arcade)... Though Amiga and MEgadrive versions back in the days DID have controller support already :)
Which can't be that bad of a thing, given how controls were clunky on the original
(i played the original on amiga and megadrive as well)
So what do we have here: a seemingly hastily and lazyly filtered version of the very old classic, with some "ooooh filtering" and "oooh MODERN mode" and "oooh rewind feature" fancy words thrown in.
While the rewind feature sure may make this game less punishing than its original form, we dont have any consumer-needed information (especially for "preordering") about what "modern mode" ever means here. Plus it seems we will get stuck with the built-in filters and may not get a classic dosbox version as a bonus.
So why so many differences between the 20th and 25th anniversary editions ? and why couldnt they bundled both together (the 2013 remaster and the classic one); though for this one i think i know the reason (publishing rights related) and why the "TM" thing is here too, in fact...
Yet I am confused and i fail to see the point of such choice of "release" from the devs and publishers.
I may be nostalgic, but not to such a point, as i still have my amiga disk, my megadrive cartridge and both platforms still in perfect working state
As a consumer, i dont give a single bother about whatever conflicting copyright shennanigans people have between different publishers for same IP or franchise or classic game; what i am concerned ith is disclosure and information, especially when you expect me to blindly preorder something jts on sole basis of fancy enigmatic words without any clear explanation of their meaning, and releasing a sort of 'inferior" product instead of just releasing the classical version drm free and with some enhanced "launcher" to apply cool dosbox filters and parameters for people who are not keen on tinkering themselves with it (that i can understand though not in that boat myself)
Well, i guess it's... nice... to finally get a "classic" game added to GOG catalog once more, for a change, though i'd have liked a more "classic" version integrated in GOG store instead of this...
