GOG GALAXY gets a new batch of features to customize your experience with the client and add some quality of life improvements.

After testing the customization of the "Recent" view on the experimental branch and applying the needed fixes, we're rolling out the feature to all GOG GALAXY users. What's it all about? Now you can add or remove widgets on the "Recent" view and move them around to your liking, and create a completely personalized experience that is tailor-fit for you.

That's not all that the Proteus update introduces to the client. For better accessibility we have placed your GOG Games Wishlist on the left sidebar, so you can keep it closer to your heart. Thanks to a separate tab listing all owned DLCs, it’s now easier to find, filter out and manage the additional content. You'll find the DLCs tab in the game's configuration window. Last but not least, we've introduced a “Check for updates“ button under the cogwheel icon, so you can check if GOG GALAXY is up to date.

The Proteus update is now available for all GOG GALAXY users – go check it out and let us know what you think.

FS7x: I opened the GOG Galaxy client, looked for the update all over in the settings and such, didn't see anything about updates anywhere, started reading this topic, around 10 minutes after I opened the Galaxy client I got a update notification, clicked on update now, got error message about failed update.
I don't like the idea of having to uninstall then reinstall everything all over again. Is there a way to update the GOG Galaxy client that doesn't require reinstalling everything from scratch?

sqlrob: You don't need to reinstall your games, just rescan where you installed.
My GOG Galaxy won't even update, no option in settings to update, nothing. Steam client updates automatically whenever I start it but GOG Galaxy update seems to be broken since it won't even start.

Just opened Galaxy and I'm not getting the update. Not sure why. Do I need to download it all over again?

thanks for nice update, but next time please test it before deploying...even 8 hours after deployment i still got database error after trying to update..so had to do standard steps - delete db file, reimport, rescan...which took like forever
Glad I read this thread before trying to open Galaxy and potentially breaking my community patched and modded gog installs, as Galaxy sometimes likes to "reinstall" games I already have installed.

Same here.

SCPM: They're still there, but with the Galaxy database file gone the connection needs to be rebuilt. Use the cogwheel and select Add Games & Friends > Scan Folders for GOG Games and point it to the installation directory. I had all my stuff in C:\Games for instance and it found everything there.
Yes I know the issue. It's still ridiculous you have to do so. Steam never requires such measures when the client updates, and Galaxy has been around long enough these quirks should be ironed out.

I don't wanna lose my database. How to downgrade this sh*t?

moving C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage\galaxy-2.0.db out of the way while it wasn't running was enough to get it working for me. You might want to backup that whole folder in case it makes other changes you don't like when it starts.

You'll need to rescan for installed games and reconnect any plugins. Unfortunately, any games you set the executable location manually (I have some HB stuff installed) you have to add back manually.

GOG.com: [...] Now you can add or remove widgets on the "Recent" view and move them around to your liking, and create a completely personalized experience that is tailor-fit for you. [...]
Yes, I customised it - it is now empty. Sorry, none of the widgets* you offer are interesting to me.

I would like to remove it now: It takes up space in the sidebar. As does the "Friends" entry, by the way.
I'd love to personalise my experience by removing both.

Reordering widgets is all nice and dandy, btw., but I would much rather be able to reorder the sidebar, if you insist on messing with it.

*- I did try the widgets, FWIW:
- The "New in Library" needs a date cut-off - ideally... customisable. Personally I'd think "1 month, no limit on number" would be useful to me.
- The button "Add games & friends" is a duplicate of the first option the gear menu atop the side bar - you can drop one of the two. Oh, and in German the button text does not fit the button.

... Also would have been great if this update could have happened without corrupting my installation and forcing me to redo all my settings - again. But mayhap that's just me.
This update gddmn near caused me to just walk away from GOG altogether.....92 games and couldnt get a damn thing to work.

Finally got the BS update uninstalled, searched my DL folder for my OLD Galaxy DL and installed 2.0 from there. Now i have to reinstall each of the games, and my Morrowind for ex? 86+ mods...gone, 60 hrs of game play...gone. Thanks for nothing.

StingingVelvet: Thanks for making DLC able to be turned off. Huge benefit in some games that have cheat DLC for promotional reasons or DLC I don't enjoy.

The update did break my installation however, like many others. Not a professional result there. Try and prioritize that next time.

Thanks!
You could always turn off DLC through Galaxy.
Wait, that's not Proteus.
We don't even have that game to purchase; I had to buy mine from the Humble Store.

Also, it looks as though I'll still be using Lutris a while yet.
It even gained the ability to mass import games.

(And it sounds like this update to Galaxy is an absolute gong show, so I suppose I'm not missing much.)

They're (hopefully) not gone. Just dump Galaxy in the trash and launch the games from their individual executable. Like the old days.

I'd love to see a button added in the Extras section of a game that will download the latest offline backup installer along with all DLCs. Keeping my backup of Talisman is kind of tedious since I have to manually click 50 files in order to download everything.
