GOG GALAXY gets a new batch of features to customize your experience with the client and add some quality of life improvements.

After testing the customization of the "Recent" view on the experimental branch and applying the needed fixes, we're rolling out the feature to all GOG GALAXY users. What's it all about? Now you can add or remove widgets on the "Recent" view and move them around to your liking, and create a completely personalized experience that is tailor-fit for you.

That's not all that the Proteus update introduces to the client. For better accessibility we have placed your GOG Games Wishlist on the left sidebar, so you can keep it closer to your heart. Thanks to a separate tab listing all owned DLCs, it’s now easier to find, filter out and manage the additional content. You'll find the DLCs tab in the game's configuration window. Last but not least, we've introduced a “Check for updates“ button under the cogwheel icon, so you can check if GOG GALAXY is up to date.

The Proteus update is now available for all GOG GALAXY users – go check it out and let us know what you think.
thats easy, it happened because Marketing is in charge... they know Twitch, Facebook and likes but not code so when you say sql lines are missing from the build [assuming it was even tested which i don't] then what Marketing hears is blar blar blar

Look at how many complaint threads there are now about this update... How long has this update been in development?

The one feature I thought this site would actually still try with, the client they've thrown so many of us under a bus for for not using, and they can't even provide a functionally competent update for that.
OK, I have Galaxy running again. But I had about 60 games installed and now it seems I have to manually install them again. Not totally terrible, because they are not downloaded again - it just takes some 10-20 seconds per each game for Galaxy to probably update the database.
BUT: I don't remember all the 60 games. Do I have to open the file explorer and compare the game folders with the items in my purchased games list and then open the page and click install manually for each, or is there a better way?
Thanks for any advice,
Mark

Just download the installer and install over the top of your existing installation. That fixes the issue and there's no need to manually add your games again.
I mean any progress is good progress, but Galaxy development is excruciatingly slow. It's been in beta for YEARS now. It really feels like CDP have taken all the developers from Galaxy to try and salvage Cyberpunk and that's why development is at a snail's pace.

Are the F12 screenshots delayed a bit for anyone else?

Alternate thought: Have you heard of our lord and savior, open source?

Or if GOG can't hack it, shared source?

There is "+" icon in the top center - click it, choose "Scan folders for GOG Games" and select your game folder. It will recognize GOG games without reinstalling (maybe try to update them, but not always, some old versions are allowed).

PLEASE, let me customize the closing "X" button on top right to CLOSE the Galaxy, not just minimize it to taskbar.

How to hide the "Recent" menu on left side? (just like the shop one)

Exactly. More resources poured into this thing, and for what? More disgruntled users and people complaining it doesn't work well with large libraries. Maybe that's why people talk about GOG not doing that hot financially. Old school user with hundreds (or even thousands) of games has spent more money here than new school user who bought Cyberpunk half price and complains that GOG doesn't give them Scheme games for free. GOG only seems to care about chasing the latter sort of customer (and I use that term loosely since I don't know of any new school type users spending money in any meaningful amount). Do the math.

Although it's a good idea, the idea of paying your developers a lot of money to develop your own client and then giving away the code for anyone to use is never gonna sit right with a for-profit business.

The update went pretty smooth so far on both my laptop and PC, however it wasn't completely obvious where the new DLC feature was. I think having a button or something would make it a bit easier for people to find.

I like the addition of the Wishlist, but I don't like that the new Galaxy has forcibly moved "DEALS" to the top pushing all of my game bookmarks off the bottom of the screen. I like my most used things at the top, and I almost never use the store inside of Galaxy normally, but now it is taking up about 1/6th of my laptop screen and 1/8th of my desktop screen, pushing everything else down and off the screen.

Would like it if the order of the categories in the sdiebar was configurable and collapseable.

Also, something not specific to the new release, but a feature request to sync the left sidebar layout/configuration and bookmarks to the cloud storage so that I have them all on all computers, rather than having to manually set up dozens of bookmarks individually on each computer.

I am growing increasingly concerned with GoG.

I used to come here daily to check new releases, read some of the community articles and lists about classic games.
I loved the DRM free access to games. I have a big family with lots of kids so it's nice to be able to easily share our purchases across our various PCs in the house. As a result many of my kids are avid PC gamers now, after leaving the toxic sludge of mobile micro trans games.

And GoG has been our preferred platform over Steam, and especially Epic because of its past user friendly nature.

But now, there are no more articles. New game descriptions are written by a bot with a few sentences.

All the focus is shifting more and more towards becoming a lesser version of your competitors as opposed to doubling down on what made you great.
Stop trying to be Steam 0.5 and Epic.

Focus on the fact that you used to treat your customers better than anyone else by updating classics, being a safe haven for indie developers, and letting people play the games they own in the way they want to.
Stop trying to fit in with the cool kids, and go be your awesome indie self again.
Please.

it takes a little more then two seconds before the toast notification from Galaxy shows up on my system - but I don't have any comparison to before as I rarely use this feature
