Johny.: It depends whether you add it to your GOG library via GOG Connect (https://www.gog.com/connect) or just import the game to GOG Galaxy and it says "NOT CONNECTED" when you display it in Galaxy.

If it's the latter (most probably), then you won't be able to install it on the new PC through Galaxy as you don't own it here.
I got that point, thanks for the tip. I see that every items on the store is labelled as DRM-free. This means, there are no DRM but it induced the info that every game has DRM and was freed by GoG, is that true?

I have the feeling that GoG ensure DRM-free games so if there is a game with DRM they will ensure it is removed in the GoG environmnet (e.g. Anno 1404). If that is the case the DRM-free label on all store item is a bit misleading.

Another question on a pure comparison point of view, Steam vs GoG. If two titles are DRM-free (e.g. Caesar 3) and both at the same price on steam and GoG is there any advantage going for one or the other?

Finally, why is the connect feature do not allow a permanent transfer of the Witcher series ?

It's not misleading. If you don't own the game on GOG and you just import it into Galaxy, then it's just a shortcut to your existing game, just like how Steam handles non-Steam games. You can't get the DRM-Free benefit of GOG's packaged games if you don't own them here on GOG. The client is simply allowing you to be able to put all your games into one interface so that you don't have to switch between them.

If the game is on both Steam and GOG (and anywhere else for that matter) and all versions are DRM-Free and the same price, then the choice is up to you as to where you choose to buy it from.

Finally, the Witcher 1 and 2 games can be redeemed on GOG via https://www.gog.com/witcher/backup

If there is some DRM on your game (not every Steam game have DRM), Galaxy will not make it DRM-free. You have to buy a game here, or use GOG Connect program to own DRM-free copy of the game.

Importing a game to GOG Galaxy doesn't mean you imported the game to your account, only to the program.

On GOG you get quality extra contents to download. For Caesar 3 it's Manual (219 pages), HD wallpaper, Avatar, and Reference card.

As for the differences in the game itself - I don't know an answer to that question, and that's not the best place to ask it (this topic concerns GOG Galaxy).

You can redeem your free GOG copy of The Witcher and The Witcher 2 here:
https://www.gog.com/witcher/backup
It is not active for The Witcher 3.

I get that point, what I am stating is that on every item I can see it is advertised as DRM-free even if there are no DRM initially on the item. For instance, Caesar 3 is DRM-free in any case but is advertised as DRM-free. Hence, my misleading info statement. The DRM-free ad is good for games like Spore or Anno where it is really limiting your use of the game.

Yep, I see that we should compare the versions to see if it is line with our expectations. Thus another question, why is the version of the games offered on GoG not the latest and allow the users to pick earlier versions at will (like having a list of available version the latest being the last up to date)? (maybe I should transfer this question to GoG general forum and not going any further on GoG galaxy thread but, you know, might as well be a feature on Galaxy),

Did not know that, thanks for the tip, is it planned to do the same for the Third installment of the franchise?

I don't know about Caesar 3 versions - you can ask support about that. We offer rollbacks to older versions for our customer's freedom of choice.

I don't know if it's planned or not.

For Galaxy-unrelated questions, please target other topics, forums and/or support. :)
Hi,
I have a dual-boot PC with Win10 and Win8.1
I installed GOG galaxy on both systems, on system drive. So each OS has its own Galaxy installation.
I tried to "share" GOG Galaxy installing it on a different drive (D:), available in both OS, like I successfully do with Steam, but it did not work.

I put games and download folders on D: drive, so I have 2 GOG installations and one games folder. Savegame locations are on D: drive as well and kind of "shared" via symlinks, so savegames symbolic links are on each C: drive and the "real" savegame files are on D:
Same thing I do with Steam, which works just fine. Only difference is that Steam installation is on D: and it's used from both OS.

Anyway, Galaxy client does not realize when a game is updated. I downloaded the 2.8 GB patch for D:OS2 yesterday on Windows 8 and today GOG is downloading it again in Windows 10.
I guess that each GOG installation has it's own "database" of installed/patched games, and it reads information from there.
First games installation is "shared" via GOG folder import function (full installation on one OS, import on the other), and it works fine. Problem is only with updates.

I wonder if there's a way to share these information between 2 different Galaxy installations. I tried to share additional GOG folders with symlinks again: i.e. C:\Users\<%username%>AppData\Local\GOG.com, but it did not work.

Is there a way to share GOG Galaxy games data between two different installations?

Thanks in advance

Ciao

Fabrizio

P.S. I monitored what GOG client is downloading: localization files, temp folder is D:\Divinity - Original Sin 2\!Temp\Data\Localization, files are Video.pak, Video_1.pak etc., which I guess will be moved to D:\Divinity - Original Sin 2\Data\Localization at the end of the process, although they are equal (did a bin compare on video.pak, which was already downloaded). This confirms that the client is downloading files which are already there.

What about the Linux client? It's been years since Galaxy is out, and no Linux client whatsoever :-(

https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/looks-like-gog-galaxy-wont-come-to-linux-any-time-soon-as-its-not-a-priority.10183

Many games are not coming to Linux on GOG due to this but GOG don't really care/care enough.
Could you pleast add the ability to use the searchbar in sub forums? It's really annoying to have to serach them page by page when you're really only looking for a particular thing, especially if it's an issue. Searching on the main fourm page and indevidual threads works, but not the sub fourms.

HELP!!!! Who knows what is up with this! Me and my roommate have been playing Stronghold and after this most recent update it has not been able to load!!!!!! My roommate thinks it has something to do with having macbooks! IS this a apple related issue, something to do with the compabitiblity of this gaem. macOS Sierra XOXOXOXO
So I downloaded Agarest: Generations of War 2 about a month ago (3 Sep 2017) and have just come to install it. Upon installing it, Galaxy prompted me to install an update for the game, stating that "the version you are currently on is no longer available" (see screenshot).

However, after making a copy of the original directory and performing the update, there was no difference in size in the directory. The version numbers are identical. Was this a bug in how Galaxy imports games into the client when automatic updates are disabled?

Hey! Quick question, if I launch a game from the desktop icon, Galaxy will still recognize it if it's running, right?
Hello there!

I am using GOG Galaxy on TV and due to the distance between my TV and my couch it is hard to read anything. Is there a TV mode (like Big Picture mode as an example) planned or at least a high dpi mode ?

Tairetsu: Hey! Quick question, if I launch a game from the desktop icon, Galaxy will still recognize it if it's running, right?
When I lauch Neverwinter Nights from a shortcut, it does detect it. I do not know if that is the case with every game though.
Hello,

I am unable to access the settings menu within GOG Galaxy client.

I press the GOG button at the top left of the client window but nothing happens. I restarted my computer and also restarted the client several times. My version of Galaxy client is 1.2.23 beta. I already tried to manually update to a newer client with the installation.exe, but it seems I already have the newest version.

Did someone have had the same issue and may help me solving this problem

My operating system is an up to date Windows 10.

regards,

Veldrin
