== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

========================================================================================

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Swiftpaw: Any news about the Linux release?
They haven't even got the macOS release right, it's extremely Mac unfriendly. Community wishlist wishes for actual native macOS application:

OS X: Use installer package .pkg properly
However, it should actually be the application itself, just one piece and no need for the package installer and no need for admin password (such as installing in a home directory). But if it's going to be a package it should be done right, such as having an actual list of files that are installed, which for whatever reason the GOG Galaxy package does not have.

OS X: Store data in user Library
For some reason GOG is using the /Users/Share directory instead of the home directory, t.i. ~/Library/whatever...

Allow Single User Installation on Mac OS X
Mac OS X support for multiple user sessions
OS X: Allow other install locations on system drive
And all of this, which is absolutely ridiculous to not know about when developing for a Mac because it's been known to developers for almost two decades. They must think macOS=Windows and not know that macOS is actually UNIX, which is similar enough to Linux that you probably really want to do more than simply scream "Linux!" all the time, but instead make it clear WHAT it is you actually want from GOG. Because otherwise to them they'll probably think Linux=Windows, too.

I mean, if all you want for a Linux program is Galaxy in DOSbox or Galaxy running in WINE, then yeah, keep merely screaming "Linux!" and I'm sure that's what'll you get, DOSbox or WINE. We don't have a macOS application, all we've got is a hack.

Obviously, don't depend on the community wishlist to get it fixed afterwards. Those are NOT feature requests for Galaxy on macOS. Those are essential characteristics for a native macOS program for easy and clean install/uninstall and backups, basic security (f.e. non-admin use), and multi-account use (t.i. multiple computer accounts). It needs to start out that way, that doesn't just get patched into an application.

rant rant rant rant... Sorry, I just keep seeing posts requesting support for "Linux" and I keep thinking about how much no one is going to like what they get for Linux if it's anything like what GOG has created for injecting into macOS systems. I would wish you and everyone with Linux luck on the matter, but luck definitely hasn't been enough for macOS... And frankly, it feels like it's too late now...

Well, good luck anyway...

thomq: rant rant rant rant...
Sorry, I do not get your point here...
What exactly do you want from Linux users? To start scream "Mac! Mac! Mac!"? Right now we have "Linux=GTFO" which is by order of magnitude worse whan "Mac=Windows" you guys have right now.

If you have issues with the current state of affairs with Galaxy for MacOS, then you should reach the developers or persuade Mac community to raise these issues in the whishlist. You do have a Mac community, right?

Meanwhile, where is the Linux version? This "Soon™" status is getting ridiculous. GOG, please, if it is not in your intentions to actually do anything, then just remove "In Progress" status from the whishlist. Be honest, at least! Stop this false advertisement.

Swiftpaw: Any news about the Linux release?
No, GOG doesn't have anyone working on a Linux release currently. It's kind of a catch-22 of sorts, they're waiting for there to be more of a market for Linux games to make it worth their effort, but there are less likely to be customers using Linux without proper support for the platform either so I suspect it's going to be at least 2 or 3 more years before we see a Linux client. On the upside though they did release Galaxy 1.2 now which is a major step forward for the Galaxy platform at least.

You might be able to get the Windows version to work via wine however, but I wouldn't count on it being much more than limited use for installing Windows games on Linux if that even works currently.

Aside from refining existing features that are buggy or rough around the edges, I imagine they'll tackle new features like user profiles and video streaming/broadcasting next as they're high demand features overall.

Linux demand will likely rise as Windows 7 nears end of life in 2020 however, so hopefully they'll have a Linux client by then.

We're discussing the possibility of removing the pkg installer and provide a plain .app in a .dmg image. It requires some changes in the client (some of them already happened). Of course I can't make any promises at the moment.

/Users/Shared/GOG.com is used for settings that are global for all users. So this cannot be moved to a user folder like ~/Library (which is also used for user preferences), especially when you want multi-user sessions below.

You can easily move the app bundle outside of /Applications folder to (for example ~/Applications) and the client will be private to you.

This is on our roadmap, can't promise any dates however.

This was done becuase of several reasons I won't discuss right now. Nevertheless, as mentioned above, you can freely move the client's bundle to any location you choose. We'll update the installer at some point to allow changing of the install location. Hope that clears some things up.

Fallen_Zen: <MacOS stuff>
And what about Linux?

Do you acknowledge that nobody is working on Linux version right now?

If so, please remove the "In Progress" status from whishlist and correct the FAQ to reflect that the Linux version is currently not in the works.
I can't launch Galaxy after the instalation because I need some library. I'm trying the beta of 1.2 in other computer (in another city) and I guess some of the lastest dll required for galaxy 1.2 are causing the problem. Or perhaps its because I forgot to upgrade windows 8 to 8.1? Also I remember that windows 8.1 was required for galaxy here and I have formatted the PC but I haven't seen the message tell me to upgrade (which one i've seen on other ocassions) this time was just a simple message telling me that can't run galaxy because some dll and closing.

Well I'm going to trying find those dll or upgrading windows. I just wanted to report what happened as a feedback.
There is a problem syncing save files for Neverwinter Nights between my PC and my laptop. If Galaxy detects an updated save file (well, duh, that's quite normal), it refuses to upload it to the cloud.

In other words, it's possible only to get the first version of any given file, because whatever is in the cloud cannot be overwritten. This sucks. Similarly, if I delete a save file, it's not deleted from the cloud upon syncing.

At first Galaxy asked me if I want to overwrite or not. That was when I wanted to sync both save files from my PC and from the laptop, so I wanted to merge them. Since I uploaded PC saves first and they are more important, I "told" Galaxy not to overwrite files. Perhaps it is because of this that things are this way now, but I can't find any way to change this setting now - there's no option for this in the settings window and Galaxy didn't ask me ever again if I want to overwrite or not.

Any suggestions?

Aborting downloads is now taking forever again on 1.2.

Galaxy will only ask you if you played without cloud saving updating the save files. So when you turn cloud savong on Galaxy won't sync automatically and asks you if it should use the local files or the ones already in the cloud. At least in my case it took like forever after I told Galaxy to uppload the local files and it seems as if Galaxy was doing nothing which in fact was not the case - it "only" took a few minutes. Try playing a bit with cloud saving turned off and then turn it back on again. See if the message reappears and after confirming wait around 5 minutes to see if anything happens. At least that is my suggestion. So far cloud saving imo is still highly unoptimized and I am quite sure that GOG will tweak and fix this feature asap because so many people want to have it. Given how badly this feature is running at the moment I'd strongly suggest to not use it at all until GOG has tweaked and fixed it in the next three or four updates.

It seems to me those wishlist requests conflict with other. Decisions have to be made one way or the other about global installation or private installation, because trying to do both does not necessarily garner the full benefits of either.

For example, keeping all the additional information downloaded for the app (except the per user information) within the app makes uninstalling simple. That also gives more options when recovering from a backup because it's not spread all over the place, such as being able to avoid restoring an application or any part of it when restoring from backup over a fresh OS install. Restoring by using Time Machine (on the macOS) is also more feasible when the application is self contained rather than having to restore files from several locations.

There might be a way to enable personal and global installations while not complicating restorations or complicating a transfer to a new computer. Or maybe not. Right now Galaxy as management software for games is itself lacking any self-management of its own by being spread throughout the OS, and that's why I expressed my doubts a Linux version will be of any comfort other than for the sake of completion ("available" for all three systems).

omega64: Hope the SW2 overlay gets fixed soon. MP doesn't work without it.
avatar
lisior1975: This is interesting, as GOG Galaxy overlay never worked for me in either Gwent or TW3 on the desktop running Win7 (Steam not running either). Even in the latest Galaxy 1.2.1 while I do get the little pop ups when the game finishes installing on both desktop and laptop (latter runs Win10), I get no notification when I start a game on the desktop and I go get a notification on the laptop that for example I'm now running Gwent and to press Shift Tab for more. I get no such notifications on the desktop and Shift Tab does not bring the overlay in either of the two games, while it does bring the overlay on the laptop. No idea what is causing this.

Anyone else having trouble with the overlay?

Hi,

Could you try the game now and see if the overlay works for you in version 1.2 of Galaxy?

1.2 was what broke the overlay. ;)
Used to work in SW2.
We haven't been able to play MP since the release of 1.2 due to it not working.

Hmmm, I guess I'll stick with FRAPS for now.

Please make sure you let the game update to version 1.1.10.3 in Galaxy and the overaly should work in Galaxy version 1.2 :)
