My problem with the current wargaming scenario is not complexity, or price points, or whatever. My problem is the whole scene is acting like they are stuck in the last century, and theres no visible evolution. If i want, or god forbid i reccomend to a friend, and he wants a wargame, we can expect 2 things: It will be pricey, around 30-50USD even for older titles. And the games will look and feel "old", with clumsy UI, and generally low quality art and sound assets.

I dont want them to stay like that, i want Crusader Kings II like games where i enjoy looking at portraits and animations, the UI isnt horrible but actually neat, where i feel this is a "modern game" all the while enjoying a "complex experience". And i want to share these with my friends, who are not so into wargames and simulators, but will give new genres a try, and can gift it to them on a sale. I want automatic or at least streamlined patching, and 30 forum posts daily of how this game rocks, what kind of mod the community just released, and "suck on my panzers call of duty", from the 100000 people that bought the game because they could afford it.

Bohemia Interactive actually succeded with this, from the obscure niche game Operation Flashpoint, they moved to make ARMA 3 that has a chance to become the most played modern FPS after Call of Duty.

Speaking of which: BUY ARMA 3 FOR 33$/25€ NAO (EU not getting shafted!)

I on the other hand, don't mind outdated graphics. Actually, I find games looking like Alea Jacta Est or Unity of Command quite charming ;-)

But not 30 dollar charming ;P

This is what I consider a good looking wargame. But graphics are not important.
p_mamusz has a point though - in wargames you should battle your opponent, not the UI :P

Supreme Ruler Cold War (grand strategy game), for example, looks like shit and has horrible UI (even though improved over Supreme Ruler 2020), and the game would be much much better if it wasn't so freaking confusing. And there isn't even an in game tutorial :D

But I spent 2.50 on Cold War, so I'm not sobbing. If I spent full 20 EUR on that, I would be furious...

> Yeah its ugly stuff. They really think only a handful of people are interested in their games, so they price them accordingly. And those loyal fans really think its the right way to go.
...
> So the leet devs will continue to make leet stuff on the same leet game engine for their loyal leet customers. All 200 of them.

Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord is discounted a lot
And I was able to snag Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin at a giant discount last holiday season. Those are pretty hardcore wargames. How did/does the discounts impact their sales?
