Throughout the years, many of the games that are part of GOG.com have seen localized releases and we ventured to collect many of them with the help of our dedicated community and a thorough search through our master archives. Today, 21 games featuring some of these elusive releases enter our wonderful, digitized catalog.

Learning a foreign language is no easy task, although games have been known to expedite the process. And hunting down localized versions comes with its own challenges but we are not ones to give up easily. Besides, we were not alone in this noble quest. Many of the localized versions on this list come from our personal collections, others we acquired through persistent eBay hunting, but a good number of them were submitted by members of our wonderful multilingual community, that humbled us with their generosity. Let’s take a moment to offer these people a resounding high-five and a warm "thank you" for making this Community Language Pack possible with their contributions.

A huge thanks to all these people and the team at ScummVM.org for their numerous donations — both physical and digital. Good job, you guys. We may speak different languages, live in different parts of the world, or even enjoy different genres. But we are all gamers, and that's a word that sounds awesome in every language, n'est-ce pas?


Note: These language versions will be getting gradually rolled out today, so don't fret if you don't see your language version right away.

Althought I'm not the one questioned, but... it could be a law suit case - if the right holders didn't agree for GOG to sell all languages, they CAN'T sell them. Being it addition or not.

I have tried contacting GOG (as ScummVM developer) several times about the major sound problems with Lure of the Temptress, due to using ScummVM, rather than DOSBox. Specifically the sound under ScummVM is broken (Adlib) and incomplete (Roland MT-32), which makes the Black Smith in particular difficult to find. But the new languages for Lure of the Temptress are still using ScummVM!

Also while on the subject of translations, why is the Pajama Sam series still lacking all non-English versions, compared to Steam? I expect GOG are losing many sales, due to the continued lack of any non-English versions.
Could you PM me the technical info about the ScummVM versions that you say are broken?

Also, please note that I am not sure what we can really do about the issue with Roland MT-32 since that technology is licensed and copyrighted and we cannot include it in our builds. Of course, I could be reading your post wrong and you might be talking about something else related to Roland MT-32.

You will notice ScummVM sounds nothing like the original games at all. The Adlib support in ScummVM is incomplete, and there is no support for Roland MT-32 sound at all under ScummVM.

JudasIscariot: Nice try but it won't work....not that we don't want it, no, but the last patch for the game (which is needed if you even want to think about using the Circle of Eight mod) simply overrides any language and changes it to English from what our tech who specializes in making old games work tells me.
Might be a different skill set, but...

Well, there isn't any. They seem quite knowledgeable about the game and seem to have made some significant strides in fixing some save game corruptions issues. I was more suggesting that GOG might want to scout them presuming both parties are interested and if they think they could do something about the other languages.

I didn't know these kind of contributions were appreciated.
Since i'm a retro physical collector (of point-and-click adventures, mostly) I have several italian versions of old games. I'll check if there's some that isn't available here on GOG yet.

Uh...I'm pretty sure i was able to enable MT-32 in Lure of the Temptress back then, after messing up a bit with the installation files. Maybe my memory is faulty? I'll re-install it back from GOG and see if I can do it again.

In case I was not clear enough, I'm asking you to use DOSBox for Lure of the Temptress. The sound support for Lure of the Temptress in ScummVM has always been broken as I explained, and very unlikely to be fixed anytime soon. Using ScummVM only causes people to get a negative experience of the game, GOG and ScummVM, since one part (sound) of the game is broken/incomplete.

To give a game play example: The player needs to find the blacksmith, which can't be heard due to the broken sound.

I think (presumably) Judas would appreciate you messaging him about this.
Though I applaud the effort that's being put into creating localized versions of all these games, there's also a part of me that gets annoyed more and more often.

For example, getting help on the internet is much easier if you can ask your question in English, because most forums and helpdesks and such are English-oriented. The English knowledge base is much broader than any other. But if you get a localized version, it's not always easy to guess the EXACT english phrase for all the localized terms used in a program. This makes it harder to get the correct help for your exact issue.
It's almost impossible to get a non-Dutch (or non-localized) version of Windows here in the Netherlands. I'd prefer to have the international (or English) version, but must make do with Dutch. And most programs (including games) will not even ask you for your preferred language anymore... They'll just assume that you want them to be installed in the default language provided by Windows. I hate most Dutch translations; they're so bland, childish, long-winded, they choose poor words and phrases, and the spelling is often atrocious.

And the same trend is now also showing on the internet... it's getting harder and harder to make clear to my browser and the Google engine that I do NOT want google.nl, but prefer google.com instead.

Localizations, fine. But leave the choice with the user what language they prefer to use.

Edit: Wait, nevermind. The extra languages were made by the community. I'm not sure if GOG would accept them.
Not sure if that's been answered already but the languages are technically in the game already as they can be downloaded from within the game.

Good job GOG staff and contributors. I usually play games in the original English, but sometimes the game was translated from another language I don't understand, and the French translation is actually better than the English one. Or French is actually the dev's language. In those cases I'm very happy to have a French version.
Just wanted to say keep up the good work GOG.
