XxXSprayvWarXxX: Hey EIT, I asked that and you told me you will think about it. Have you bought Her Story?
avatar
ElTerprise: Yes i did some time ago but i haven't played it yet....

avatar
ddickinson: Of course. I mentioned Agent as well, just in case it was one of those sneaky Colonials. :-)

The German game? How can you not know. Surly that is some kind of treasonable act in Germany? :-)
The game is Gothic. I am giving it a try and I played a few minutes of it over the weekend to see how it is. But for some reason to use the action key to pick items up you have to press action and forward, not just action. It took me a few minutes to figure that out as normally the action button is all you need to press. Granted I am not that used to RPGs, so maybe it's my own fault.

ElTerprise: xD
Actually i never played Gothic (only a bit of Gothic 2)...never really got into it...but i bought them in the summer sale to give them another try at some point :)
Ah lucky! :)

You just wait, the German secret police will be round soon to send you off for re-education. I thought playing Gothic was part of the requirements for every German citizen. :-)

AgentBirdnest: That's good...
I'm doing well today. I had a pretty nice weekend. Nothing particularly exciting, just some random relaxing and working on random projects. Not bad at all :-)
*big return hug*
That is very good to hear. Hopefully you can have a nice week as well to go with that weekend.
*more hugs*

I have been bugging EVERYONE to play Her Story I thought it was really different and awesome still not totally sure what I think happened which proves to me the writing was pretty darn good.

XxXSprayvWarXxX: Hello Battle Sister! :) I won;t reccomend using free antivirus as they aren't providing security at all. I was using avast free trial for a while then I bought ESET Antivirus and my system had 5 virused and 7 polluted files, so yeah don't use free antivirus if you download a lot.
avatar
ddickinson: Thank you for the advice.

avatar
ElTerprise: In my experience that should be enough - never had any problems with that configuration :)

(although it might be a good idea to also have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free installed)
avatar
ddickinson: And thank you as well. I only ask as I am trying to fix a neighbours laptop and previously she used Norton but that seems to have become corrupted and won't fully uninstall itself despite using their own removal tool and things (for some reason the "Smart firewall" on Norton is disabling the internet, and any attempt to look at the settings crashes the thing.). So I thought I would suggest she use the built in firewall and a free antivirus. She only browses a few sites anyway so I don't think she will be at much risk of downloading anything dangerous.
No problem, just keep you PC safe with paid Antivirus and preferably ESET, it is fastest light Antivirus. Of course Kaspensky is better, but will float your PC.

Yes, this game is so interesting, I would buy it if we didn't have issues with online payments here in Greece.

ddickinson: Or maybe it was Agent, maybe he spilled some peanut butter in the gears again. :-)
But peanut butter is very greasy.... wouldn't that make the gears run better? :-p

Random thought : When will we invent "bacon butter" ? Hm...

ddickinson: A quick question for the Window users: Would a free antivirus (Avast/AVG) and the Windows 7 built in firewall be enough security? Or would it be better to get a commercial antivirus and firewall?

Also, hello to XxXSprayvWarXxX and anyone else I forgot to say hello to.
Avira + windows' own security is more than enough

ddickinson: *big hug*

Good day!

I hope your week is off to a good start?

Non health wise I am doing good, thank you. I had a lovely weekend and am in a very cheery mood today. Health wise is another thing, but I decided to skip all that and just mention the positive stuff.

Oh, and you Germans make some of the strangest design choices ever in games. I was testing a certain German game over the weekend to see how it played and ran on my computer, a game that is so highly regarded in Germany that I think it was on your old pre-Euro currency :-). You see, in most games, if you want to pick up a torch lying on the floor you press the action button, and just the action button. Who decides that you have to press the action button and forward? It took me a few minutes to figure that one out. Some very strange design choices. :-)
Caught a little cold, and the usual fatigue... Otherwise I'm fine.

And yes, Gothic's controls are a little strange. But it's possible to get used to them, and otherwise it's a fine game. The controls work rather well in melee IMO, once you get the hang of swinging and parrying.

Did you apply the patch that restores the In Extremo concert in the game?

Yes, but if you download a lot, you get viruses :(
I will be calling it a day for now. I am not going to push myself like last time. I will probably be on a little later, but if not I hope you all have a lovely day!

And a big thank you to all who answered my question.

And just for Agent:

The windows firewall is enough, if you don't have special security needs.

And actually the MS Security Essentials suffice too, if you don't go visit shady sites, don't download software from unknown sites and don't click every mail attachment without thinking.

Add in the free version of Malwarebytes for a manual scan every week and you should be pretty much on the safe site.

You're welcome. Well i only use the in-built firewall for some years now and i combine it with Avast Free which does the job for me. Plus occasional scanning with Malwarebytes.
My parents used Norton some years ago with similar to those you mentioned...

Either that or The Settlers or The Patrician ;-)
