65 assorted games 70% off, no risk of getting trampled!

The time has come to unveil our [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/black_friday_weekend_promo_291113]special Black Friday promo First, let's put things in some perspective, though. There are a few great things about the Black Friday retail festivities, and one really, really bad one, that kind of spoils all the joy for many people. On one hand, you can go out there and grab consumer electronics, games, movies, and other tech-goods with insanely attractive discounts, finally getting those things you wanted, but without the guilt of paying too much for stuff that's not essential to your wellbeing. On the other, you risk getting seriously battered-up in the process, as hundreds, or thousands of other people will be trying to do just the same and they won't take competition kindly. Each year people get injured in their pursuit of great deals. Badly injured! Killed even! Even if the media blow the thing way out of proportion, the risk still exists.

Why take any risks? You're entitled to great Black Friday deals without exposing yourself to raging crowds. Take the digital route, this year! We've prepared a huge selection of titles for you, and applied a huge discount to all of them. Games that usually cost $9.99 are now available for only $2.99. Titles with $5.99 regular price tag are up for grabs for only $1.79. That's 70% off discount on a selection of 65 fantastic games. You can greatly expand your DRM-free collection and emerge victorious from this whole Black Friday ordeal, without staring into Death's cold eyes even once. You don't even need to rush in--we give you plenty of time to plan your purchase, so you don't end up with something you bought because it was dirt cheap, not because you really wanted it. That's Black Friday GOG.com customer love style! The offer lasts until Tuesday, December 3, at 10:59AM GMT.
Great deal! Got all of the Commandos series that I was originally going to get on Steam's autumn sale. Wish GOG would price-match Steam more often, cause with same prices GOG is always my preference.

Heh. Yesterday I got a game from my wishlist here, then went to check out Steam sale and got another one (called "Lack of honor" or somesuch) on Steam - the reason being I found it unlikely to see it on GOG anytime soon.
Then, while I was browsing through their sale lists, I found another one for less than $2 (it's $5.99 on GOG) and... passed on it. My guess is, sooner or later it'll be on sale here and even if it won't, I'd still much prefer to have a DRM-free copy+soundtrack+whatnot that I can install at any time anywhere (even if there's no internet connection).
While I still hesitate to buy here the games I own on Steam, when it comes to new purchases, I first turn to GOG and even if they can't match the price... well, it's not what matters most.
Are there any reasons NOT to buy Riddick?
Hey guys, I'd like an indication for this promo. I like RTSs but I'm kinda rusty on them lately. Been too long without playing any, but now we have several of them on promo at once: Tzar, Celtic kings, Seven Kingdoms, Praetorians... the list goes on.
So I hope anyone can tell me which one of those is a good RTS, most closely resembling Warcraft 2, and not exaggeratedly hard until I pick up on my RTS skills? I'm also annoyed by having to control a billion units at war like you do in Cossacks Anthology. Smaller and easier to control squads are better IMO.

Most likely winner is Tzar, but I'd like to hear opinions.

Not Praetorians, that's for sure. It's nothing like Warcraft.
I played only a demo version of Tzar and the impression I got was a tad Warcraft-like, yet somehow different at the same time. I'm afraid the demo's not available at the official site anymore but it can still be googled, I guess (I found some links but they're not for the English version).

Tzar is standard RTS. Good but nothing revolutionary (no pun intended).
Praetorians is RTS in name only. No resource gathering, no individual units, and WAAAAAY more strategy. That may be good or bad depending. I like to keep a copy around in case I ever get bored of "gather, build, upgrade, attack".

joppo: snip
I made a few comments about Tzar vs Warcraft and some general remarks [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/weekend_promo_boom_black_friday_baby/post78]here. You can also read my review (it's currently the first one on the gamecard) but be warned: due to ridiculous word limit I was only able to mention mostly positive aspects of the game so it may sound fanboyish ;) And of course I may be biased because I really like this game.

But I also have to warn you that the game is definitely not easy. AI is pretty dumb but he can also be effective. He does a lot to protect his base - mainly by building a LOT of towers. You cannot just build a huge army, give "march an attack everything" order and watch your troops winning. No, they would get massacred very fast. You have to do it step by step - move your front-liners a bit and order them to hold positions. Move archers and give the same order. Move catapults and eliminate towers. Then you can advance your front-liners a bit more... And of course don't forget about reinforcements ;) I promise, it's not complicated but unlike in many RTS games from that time you cannot win with a single attack.

I can recommend picking the easy mode - your opponents won't upgrade towers to the maximum level and it does matter a lot. With this you cannot say that the game is unforgiving anymore.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. I really know a lot about this game.

One more opinion: Seven Kingdoms is definitely not Warcraft-like. The strategy part is definitely deeper - you have to acquire some luxury resources to keep your population satisfied, keep an eye on your troops' morale and so on. Not a typical RTS for sure.

No Jack Keane in the sale?!
Yeee haw! RCT1 is the top seller in this sale! Guess I'm part of that majority :-)

As a matter of fact it was the only thing I wanted to get that was in this sale. I'd look in to getting Worms but right now I want to refrain from making extra purchases. EDIT: Especially after getting TIM....

Indecisive. I went into this sale hoping to find Thunderscape, and although I was disappointed, I found a couple of gamed that interested me. Problem is I want to choose only 3 titles.

Robinson's Requiem -- sounds real interesting, especially the survival features, but heard it was impossible to beat
Catacombs -- it reminds me a lot of maybe Hexen or Shadow Tower? If I am right?
Rollercoaster Tycoon -- I used to own this game, loved it. Maybe purchase it,
Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 -- but would I be better getting this?
Ishar Compilation -- A first person RPG. Didn't know what people thought...

Which of these 3 would be a better investment? I don't really want too many games because of the previous Insomnia sale.

Well I'm biased but I'd personally go for Rollercoaster Tycoon out of those choices, especially as you know you'd like it. I'd lean towards 2 but do read the first review on the game page. It explains the difference between 1 & 2 quite well. Obviously 1 is cheaper which you might also want to take into consideration if you're still bankrupt from insomnia ;)

Decaf_PIxel_Kat: Sweet! I finally got to add RCT3 to my collection for a reasonable price!

tinyE: Does anyone have the link for the RCT "killer" coaster video for the new tycoon here? :P I think it should come standard with the game. I may try to find it later because it is timeless.

Found one of them.

Holy pancakes! That was awesome! So far I've been a model citizen, but now I think it's time for some carnage.

The pricing feature is one of the aspects I most liked with RTC to begin with. I think I am going to stick with RTC. That's one off the list. hank you. Now all I got it to eliminate one more game, and I will be set.
I kind of found it funny that my credit card company (Cap one) blocked my payment. I have used that card here a few times.

Oh well it took 5 mins to sort
