Be kind, rewind

Shadwen, a thrilling exercise in silent killing within a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 15% launch discount.

Time stands still as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she doesn't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold, and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you execute any action, time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden or use distractions, thus sparing young Lily the horrible sight of this muffled violent dance.

Put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and keep your murders quiet as you become Shadwen, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 15% discount will last until May 24, 1:59 PM UTC.

shmerl: And does it work well with open AMD drivers?
The demo ran perfectly with open drivers on my R9 270x. I had system troubles recently so I don't have a distro installed to test the full version at the moment.

But honestly i'm so sick games barely working (or complete shit performance) with my R9 on Linux that I may be done with that until I get a replacement card.

Phaedrus567: I feel comfortable playing the game in crossfire with very high thus far. I will probably settle on "high" for larger areas.
Thanks, I added your results to that lag report.

I'll probably buy the upcoming Polaris 10 card, to replace my current Nvidia GTX 680.

Mnemon: Hm. I didn't pay attention and missed the original Demo event. Seems the demo is now no longer available anywhere for download? If that's really the case it's a rather disappointing decision.
I also missed the Demo. Anyone know where one can be found? I like the sound of this game, but not sure my old laptop can run it.

They removed the demo, since they don't have resources to keep it up to date. And if they'd keep the old one, it would give an incorrect impression about the current version of the game.

Looks like the demo was even pulled from Steam, which is kinda ridiculous.

Maybe GOG staff can still give people access to the demo? It still exists for people that had access to it.

Sounds like a dumb management decision to me. If the demo was broken or really gave a bad impression (which it doesn't) then i'd agree with pulling it.

It's simply out of sync, and therefore can't be used to compare with the actual game. I also would prefer for them to maintain the demo, but they said they would rather spend time on the game itself. Given that they can't even keep Trine games up to date here, the fact that they pulled the demo isn't unexpected.

thank you, i am sorry iff i look like a 80 year old now, ( im only 51 now ) but i grew up with old games, lousy graphics, i played a while with atari 2600, bad thing was these many flashes, cause thats what the games were back then.
vic 20 games, awfull graphics , looked more like reverse on and off to create the 'graphics' back then.
C64 was slightly better had even some metallic sounding speech in some games.
Then amiga came , amiga cd32 (cdtv was before that), my first pc with 4 or 8 MB ram and 100 hz , wow i was so happy, hd with a only few hundred mb and win 95, playing old jagged alliance, and commandos, fallout and the addictive redalert and command and conquer.
Thats why i love it when people release a new game that looks like these old classics, i love the old games they make with AGS, i have all wadjet eye games and anything that looks and plays like those.
My favorite genre is point and click, i just cant get enough games like this, the more the better, i havent played 90% of them yet, i think that would cost me alot of hours to finish them all.
For some reason I can't think of this as anything else than Shidwin.

shmerl: Warning to Linux users: Shadwen launcher doesn't start because it uses deprecated libpng12.so.0:
http://www.frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=27561

On Debian at least, as an ugly workaround, you can get libpng12 from Wheezy and put in the game's lib/lib64 directory.
yes, libpng 1.2 is outdated since 2011 or so. But debian and its offsprings kept using it until very recently.
Debian made the transition to 1.6 like a month ago. Ubuntu decided to postpone the switch to after the 16.04 release.
you can hardly blame the developers for still using 1.2 with this game.

you (/someone) might want to lobby with the debian folks to keep libpng12 around. There is a lot of games depending on this.
Does anybody know if the GOG version of Shadwen comes with the 'Level Editor'?

The game is supposed to be mod friendly and allow you to create your own levels and mods. But from what I've read, it looks like the 'Level Editor' is only available with the Steam version of the game.

If this is true, then it really stinks! Cause I hate Steam and I'll never use it!
Someone has been made very happy today ;)
