Be kind, rewind

<span class="bold">Shadwen</span>, a thrilling exercise in silent killing within a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 15% launch discount.

Time stands still as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she doesn't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold, and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you execute any action, time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden or use distractions, thus sparing young Lily the horrible sight of this muffled violent dance.

Put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and keep your murders quiet as you become <span class="bold">Shadwen</span>, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 15% discount will last until May 24, 1:59 PM UTC.

Nirth: Unbelievable. Achievements are the only difference, not even a different cutscene that will depict how Lily reacted? Damn gamifications..
there are different cutscenes. this is not what I said in my post

I really don't want to make an other account just to comment one time on a forum. maybe someone can link this thread there.

I find it useful to have such accounts to report bugs.

Sorry, it was a general statement aimed at gaming in general. I think there is too much focus on achievements but good that your decision between lethal and nonlethal pays off.

Hrm. I started worrying a bit :) It's good that it makes some difference in the game.

since there is no score in this game at the end of the level (one of the missing things from the demo), and since there is a really simple story, the challenge is to unlock achivements (lethal and nonlethal).
I'm not a real fan of achivements, but in a pure stealth game (like hitman and this one) the challenge is to get the best score (or unlock achivements).

Yeah, action games benefit greatly when creators put some more effort in the story. Because so many of them have such poor writing, since authors focus too much on the action part. Take for example Shadow Warrior. It is FPS / hack-n-slash action game, but the story is superb there.

Story wise Shadwen is simplistic so far (at least until where I played), but OK.

They ask for e-mail correspondence in the thread anyway; just to include a link to the thread in the forum alongside the e-mail. So no need for an additional forum account.

Hey, they said to send an email to support[at]frozenbyte[dot]com.
That seems acceptable, no? :)

You are right, I just had different expectations. Given the price and its seemingly low production values reduced that but still, I kind of hoped there would be more to it than that.

I know that, I mean that I don't want to make an account just to request the missing editor on gog version.
I have already sent the email

MikeMaximus: From what I've read, AMD has no intentions of adding support for anything older than the Sea Island series for their new AMDGPU driver.

But the radeonsi driver is progressing nicely, the development version is up to OpenGL 4.3, r600 is still stuck at 4.1.
True, and eventually I will upgrade, but it won't be for another year at the minimum.

The mesamatrix makes it look like the r600 should support up to 4.1, and I seem to have the latest stable of both xorg (7.7) and mesa (11.2.2) .... but Shadwen won't run. No error, not even a black to desktop screen. Just does nothing.

When I run glxinfo | grep -i OpenGL it returns "OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 11.2.2" as one of the results.

I'm guessing xorg isn't supporting 4.1 yet, but I really can't find a clear answer on their site.

So, as best I can tell, my open source drivers don't support the minimum openGL4.1 just yet, and that the optimizations toward Nvidia put AMD cards out on the street (big sarcastic thumbs up)

Unless someone has another suggestion of what to try, I will request a refund and hope for better options elsewhere. Sorry Frozenbyte, I was very excited by this release until now.

See this thread for potential workaround by spoofing OpenGL version: http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=32&amp;t=27507

It might help (or not). I suppose for your generation of AMD, Mesa is lacking some extension from OpenGL 4.0, but can have some others still, so the game might work.

Weird, you should have 4.1 support with that card. :(

Gaming with AMD on Linux is just a giant pain in the ass, unless you have a new series card or only play old games.

I don't really have any other suggestions. You could try the mesa environment variable that overrides the openGL version, but the game will probably still crash.

Yeah, situation is starting to improve only now, and I'm thinking about getting Polaris 10 card or may be wait for Vega when they'll eventually come out, to switch to open drivers at last. But I wouldn't use anything older.
