Be kind, rewind

Shadwen, a thrilling exercise in silent killing within a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 15% launch discount.

Time stands still as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she doesn't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold, and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you execute any action, time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden or use distractions, thus sparing young Lily the horrible sight of this muffled violent dance.

Put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and keep your murders quiet as you become Shadwen, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 15% discount will last until May 24, 1:59 PM UTC.

Breja: It is... but it's not really anything like Shadwen at all.
Stealth killer sim where you are able to fake excellence due to autopause. For people who normally suck at (timed) stealth/action, this is the defining trait.

Breja: If you want something like Ronin, play Gunpoint if you haven't already. That's the game that inspired the creation of Ronin in the first place.
Only the demo, I'm a cheapskate.

I guess I can see that... If I squint and look at the right angle... but it plays and looks so differently, if you have not brought it up I'd never make a link between the two.

Killing people in Shadwen is oddly calming.
Looks good, love the developer, will wishlist for now.
I'm a big fan of this genre and downloaded the demo hoping it would be interesting as one of may favorite game series was thief, I was very disappointed tbh in my opinion and it is only my opinion this game is terrible. The control method is clunky and unintuitive and gives you no freedom at all, if you have not played the demo make sure you do before purchase.

Breja: Well, if you liked it, it's on sale on Humble Store for just €2,24 (DRM free too).
I looked at the 75% discount, was duly humbled and bought the EE from the dev.

Good advice. Shadwen really seems to be one of those love it or hate it type of games. It's probably better to just play the demo to decide rather than read reviews.

Personally I love what I've played so far of the full game.

That's odd. I find your have a great deal of freedom, partially because of the time manipulation (I play with it even if it makes the game easier as it makes the game unique, otherwise it's too much close to typical stealth game even if I find it well made) but mostly because of the haystacks and grapple hook. I think if you are being chased, avoid time manipulation and use the hooks, the game will begin to become very hard but too much twitchy for my taste.

Something about swinging in the hook that is oddly more enjoyable if time stands still then letting it flow as it naturally does. This game mechanic of letting time only flow when you perform an action is a screenshotters mad dream and I happen to be one (I take like 100s per game as a momento for the future).

Me too, but I do want those gadgets, a knife and a hook isn't exactly diversed. It seems one has to scavange the map entirely to not miss a chest full of crafting materials.

Are you playing with the time stop or only using it occasionally? I'm going to try my next level to play with it occasionally instead to see if it feels differently.

You're a very odd "cheapskate" :D
Much as I love Frozenbyte's games I won't buy this game until the company starts being serious about DRM-Free. When Trine Enchanted Edition was released on GOG, it was Windows only and took them more or less about 2 months to send the Mac/Linux versions to GOG (that was after I messaged them numerous times and getting the same answer).

Fast forward a few months later Trine 3 was released and up till December of last year all was well and the game was being updated regularly on GOG / Humble (Yes It's the same problem on HB). The latest version on GOG is 1.11 (Build 3091) which is also the broken version for Linux users as it has introduced a massive performance hit regardless of your system. To present day all 3 (Win/Mac/Linux) versions of the game on GOG and Humble are still on 1,11 (Build 3091) while Steam users have been enjoying the latest version for more than 3 months.

A few days ago I messaged Frozenbyte regarding Trine 3's outdated versions here and their answer was that they don't have an ETA.

I understand they were busy with Shadwen, I understand Frozenbyte isn't the size of other AAA companies and I also understand updating on GOG/HB isn't as easy as Steam but there a few things they forgot - GOG users are their customers and fans too, they paid the same price Steam users did and it's disgraceful that they have to wait months to get an updated version: (the latest version 1.11 (Build 3102) was released on Feb 9th - That's more than 3 MONTHS ago.

EDIT: For the record, I bought Trine 3 on Nov 11 2015 and to this day I still cannot play the game I paid for.

Also, Trine 3 launcher is using old libpng which is missing in Debian now.

I've been using time stop regularly and rewind occasionally. I'm just having fun and getting a feel for things again.

I've probably missed crafting chests already, but i'm just rolling with it and hoping that it doesn't screw me over too badly later in the game. So far it seems most chests are plainly visible and a lot of them require distracting (or murdering) nearby guards to loot them.

I`ve lost track of number of games I have on Humble that are in similar state. Some have been completely abandoned.

It`s pathetic, really. We live in digital world apparently, how hard can it be to upload a new version? Few clicks and couple of emails? Sounds like loadsa hard work, truly a case of #firstworldproblems.

The truth is, the huge bulk of sales and main community are on Steam and so some of these devs just stop caring. Sad realy, since indie scene was supposed to have different ethos, never even mind the commercial aspect (I bought your product, it wasn`t a gift)

Yeah, I also don't get it. What's so hard in making a tarball and giving it to GOG? GOG anyway repackage it themselves after that.
Nice release, I enjoyed the demo. Wishlisted for now, as I'll be holding off until either Frozenbyte updates the Trine games or there is a deep sale, whichever comes first.
