lowyhong: Shit. I can't stop playing Minecraft. HAVE TO HARVEST THAT NEXT DAMN TREE!
Bro, are you on the brotastic GOG server?

Not yet, I'll join tonight

prakaa: Fair enough, I simply love it, there's always challenge and cool stuff, but it does get tedious at times..

ESPECIALLY when you want to visit the Nether but you can't because you haven't found lava....
Spiral staircase mine like a champ! I always seem to find large underground caverns that lead to lava and other goodies. If there isn't any obsidian, then I farm it by creating a waterfall above still lava. Win.

Also, the inventory loss bug really hurt. Ended up losing a lot of things, but especially a diamond pick axe. The fix was released a half hour later. QQ

ahhh ok thanks

Is this how you can't pick up the stuff you lost after dying? I had that problem too....

You might have to look up spiral staircase mining on YouTube, I don't think I could explain it simply (sounds complicated when put into words, very simple to do though).

And yeah, that's the bug I was talking about. Notch released the fix quickly, but damn it.. I miss my diamond pickaxe. =(

Should be all fine, not sure about Survival MP.

Just checked out the server, and started building an underground (evil) lair. Can be spotted by the attrocious horned hand \m/ thing jutting out.

Also made an iron door.. Which was absolutely stupid. Had to also craft a button for it. I'm a newbie, sorry. =P
New update out, only bugfixes:

* Signs on the sides of cacti no longer crash the game
* The player won’t get stuck on the top of the world in multiplayer
* Reverted mob spawning back to the old code, it was far to annoying. I have plans on what to do with this.
* Fixed the leaf particle colors
* Reduced CPU usage for monster spawning, but there’s still a lot of work to be done to reduce lag on SMP servers.
* Attempted to fix the portal dupe bug where you could exit through a different (new) one than the one you entered through.

Next week, bug fixes for SMP.

Now i can mine without spiders spawning 2 meters from me, despite 50 torches laid around the spawner.;>

Ahh good. Will have to test that out... or perhaps wait until he's had another go... doesn't sound too confident does he?

I just tested it out, it was fixed for the one I tried.
I entered the nether for the first time yesterday, and both portals i built were leading back to their entrance portals... :)

I really don't understand the mass appeal to this game. Not that I think it's worthless or anything like that and I'm sure it's marketable but it's gotten to the point that I'm surprised that I haven't been hearing it referenced in prime time sitcoms.

From the little that I've played, it looked like a sandbox FPS game where you could run around repositioning the building blocks making up the environment but other than that there really wasn't a whole lot going on.

Correct me if I'm wrong?

Name me another game in which you can build a fully functioning 8bit CPU.

there is a survival and exploration aspect that combined with the sandbox properties makes for something quite unique. I find it unexpectedly fun. 'just repositioning blocks' becomes a whole lot more engaging when it happens in a world that feels alive and where what you create can fulfill some sort of purpose (you're not just building a fortress, you're building a fortress that protects you from scary beasts. And is awesome.), and where you actually have to explore and survive to find the blocks you need. And since Notch seems to be quite intent on expanding the survival aspect of the game more and more, I have high hopes of the game becoming even more fun later on.

Especially when Notch's ambition is now to get a real survival multiplayer mode working, plus the ability for players to travel from a server to another server (between servers which will have agreed to, of course). That plus the fact now the game deals with "biomes" (several types of landscapes in the same world) smells like AWESOME !!

I'm glad I'm on the Minecraft boat.

I LOVE the biomes. They make the (every) world even more interesting.
