Oh great lord of Darkness, please lend me your power to me, let me rise from the dead this lifeless thread, let it live once more, ARISE!!!!!!

Ahem...

I'm curious, without any mods (but with the latest version) is it worth it to play if the whole building thing isn't my thing? I really enjoyed Terraria but there was a "driving purpose" there since i needed to make stronger items to face stronger enemies/bosses but with minecraft it appears to be the same 4/5 enemies all the time and more focused in the "lego" gameplay.

You could set out to hunt the ender dragon. Except that though, yeah, Terraria has a much heavier focus on fighting, while Minecraft is much more about what you can build.

If i were to get stronger (aka get better items) for that Dragon fight, how long (+/-) would it take?

The fight itself is rather short, on "easy" it only took me a few minutes with an enchanted bow.
But getting to the dragon itself, is a VERY long process. You have to hunt several dangerous monsters, craft items from their drops, go on a LONG expedition to find the "hideout" of the dragon. To do that you need diamond items, to get diamond, you have to mine and explore a LOT.... by the time you reach the dragon, you'll have at least 30~40 hours at your back (a lot less if you already know the game like the back of your hand, but for the 1st time it will definetly take this much.)

I know you said "without mods", but afaik there are some combat focused, RPG-themed mods out there, that might worth looking at if this is what you're interested in.

Oh, then it's worth it. My only fear is to become tedious with only chores but if i need to prepare for expeditions for materials and hunt monsters then it will take a while i perhaps be a nice experience.

Thing is, my coop buddy only plays on the console (PS4) and we both can get that game for 5€ so that's why i said no mods! :)
The trick is to set the game to hard and lock it. It makes simply surviving a challenge in itself. The server I host is set to that difficulty and even our veteran Minecraft players die fairly often. Hard mode really changes how you play Minecraft, monsters are a real threat and going out at night is simply a death sentence to all but the most pragmatic and prepared.

My favorite aspect of this challenging setting is that it gives players incentive to work together instead of simply being an isolated hermit. Being part of an involved, engaged community is really when Minecraft shines. Check out our server's GOG thread here, if it seems like something you be interested in simply drop me your in game name and I'll get you set up :)
There's also the Wither and the Elder Guardian mini-bosses in the PC version, I have no idea if the console version has those as well.
The Ender Dragon is quite tough and definitely requires some nice gear and to get that you do need to grind and mine.
That being said, it's more exploration and mining based than Terraria IMO.

Well, it's going to be only 2 players that never played minecraft before, not sure that it would be a good idea.
Can i switch difficulty whenever i like? Like play for 20h and if the game is too easy then change the server difficulty to hard? Or carry my stuff to another world that is set on hard?

Thank you for your offer but like i said it's the console version, it's not crossplay (as far as i know). :)

Balderdash!* Our favorite people are new people! Yeah you can change the difficulty on the fly whenever you like, you can also lock it in a fixed state if you so chose. Your items and progress are saved per world so, in each new game your start from scratch.

Thank you for suggesting all that great synth music--Yeah, I noticed that after I posted and no, it is not cross-platform. If you ever find yourself in possession of a PC version of the game, the offer stands :)

* Yeah, I said it.
