Tarm: How do you backup games on Desura?
avatar
Impaler26: You can directly download about 95% of the games from your Desura account. Only a few games need the Desura client to download and install.
Blast! I can't download "10 min Space Strategy" or "March of the Eagles".
Saved some Illwinter games though. :)

Edit: I mean Illwinter. :/

Every time I check whether the Desura website still works or not I cannot help but being amused by the fact that at the top of any page there's a link to this update regarding payments to devs, and that there are some devs that are still publishing news/updates about their games. :\

If you have the client installed you can try to download 10 min space strategy and then copy the installed game folder.

March of the Eagles only comes as a Steam key according to the game page. You can get Steam keys for some of your Desura games in your collection - just hover over a game and click on "Your Keys":

Tannath: Alright, I finished backuping anything I'm remotely interested in from my Desura account. Only a matter of time now...

Yeah, I have a couple of games like that myself. I never used the client though, so I'm not really losing out on anything.

I have both the client and game installed so I'll try just copying the folder then.

Thanks for the key tip. March of the Eagles is now in my Steam library and should be safe for the time being. :)

The client is a client is a client. It's serviceable in other words. I'll certainly miss the games more, if they're lost, than it.

Yes, but my point is I won't miss a game that I never even considered playing since it required the client.

Sounds right.
So whats the update with desura?. I came back from a months vacation (was aware Desura was in deep poo before i went). Have tons of games on Desura but little hope of downloading all of them. Anyone got idea how long the system will stay up ie so users can download all their games etc? (i made sure to download all the paid ones i have first plus biggies like Underrail etc). Do devs still accept payment via that site out of curiosity? .
Is there an alternative to Desura now?.

Have a look at itch.io, it's much like Desura and you can buy lots of quirky indie games there.

You have to dig through a bit to find the good stuff so have a look at the first post of my old GA for a few recommended free games:

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/small_itchio_giveaway/page1

Also some developers moved their games from Desura to itch.io and gave itch.io keys to bundle buyers. So you might wanna check your old bundles for keys.

That sounds great. Do you have any examples? I've checked my bundles and didn't find any itch.io keys, although I own bundles that include games on itch.io.

I can't remember all games but some developers added itch.io keys to Groupees bundles and i also got a few from asking the developers on Desura. IIRC i got itch.io keys for the following games:

Porradaria Upgrade
Porradaria 2: Pagode of the Night
Alcarys Complex
Boot Hill Blaster
Kilgazar
Btw. i still have a few Desura and itch.io games up for grabs here:

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/grab_a_game_at_the_shabby_games_shelter_d/page1

Just in case anyone wants some free indie games. ;)

Thanks. I don't own any of them.

I've made a backup of everything, but that doesn't help if an update gets released. At least the bundles weren't that expensive.

I've read some rumours that all the support staff had been laid off, so no more game updates, maintenance, etc. I've read a theory from another user somewhere that the site is still up because they probably had paid in advance for the servers, bandwidth, etc, so basically when that expires it will go under. The same user speculated that the turn of the year is a likely scenario in this case, but no one really knows.

Doubtful. Any money from sales, if any, is probably being funnelled to whomever is overseeing the bankruptcy thing.
As the forum ate two post in a row, I'm trying to repoat in the 3rd time, this time without quoting (sorry Tarm)
I know you already mentioned copying the dir on an earlier post (and I can asure it does work as game isn't directory dependant),
but at least 10 min Space Strategy can be freely downloaded from its a developer site(blog), www.goblinlunatics.blogspot.com
