Free mustache ride friday.

jamyskis: To be honest, this is why DRM-free is so damned important.
Until now I don't remember having lost any games from the demise of companies. I hope that someone will pick up Desura and Indie Royale this time too.

Still, at least for me the problem is that I'm not at all sure it's worth saving games. I have so many of them I'm not playing and probably will never play that losing some of them doesn't feel like a real loss. Having to download and back them would be quite a bit of work that I'm not sure is worth it.

Desura/IR have been rescued so many times, you'd think they were in the running to beat a cat's nine lives. Someone might pick up Desura/Indie Royale, I doubt it though. No investor worth their salt would consider it a wise investment, and there's simply not enough community support to enable a charitable rescue.

You might think so, but others may rely on bundles to be able to afford games. Personally, I've had a few interesting experiences with IR games where I've just archived them to play later, and then come back to them years later out of sheer curiosity, and I have discovered some real gems this way, for example Chopper Mike.

Goddamnit!

I'm trying to get some standalone installers for the few games I actually want to keep, but there's a few that refuse to give me an installer, like Santa Rockstar HD - http://www.desura.com/games/santa-rockstar-hd - it keeps asking me to install the client first. :|

I emailed the devs but they've been silent for a while. I'm not getting my hopes up. :(

That is unfortunate. :(
Somehow I have 100 games there, but the vast majority of them aren't providing me any Steam keys, let's hope the devs will add them or I will lose all these games
Btw, if you install a game through Desura client, you don't need the client open to run the game, right?

No. I installed several games this way and none of them needed the client to run afterwards.
I downloaded santa rockstar, copied the files to a separate folder, uninstalled it, played the copy, and it ran/

Whew.
