Tamdrik: I agree. As much goodwill as GoG buys with the whole no-DRM thing, this practice really leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Every time I see one of these offers in my inbox that has prices listed as "from $x.xx", I basically ignore it on principle and delete the email. It should just list the individual prices, along with a "or buy them all for $x.xx, a YY% savings!".

KOCollins: Let me get something straight....Complaints over an email sale promo? Surelly GOG is entitled to a little advertising, if they don't get us nerds and geeks checking their site at least once a week they would have a harder time making ends meet. This is a great Promo too, most of these games were steals at the normal price, 30% extra off, how can one resist buying them now? And really since GOG has been doing these 'Pack Sales' for some time now, we shouldn't be suprised to find they aren't as cheap individually. Further, what does it take? 30 Seconds to find the price of these games seperately? No offence, but, I don't mind the headline emails not when we can get so many good games for so cheap. Finally, since when is 30% off Rubbish? Its a great deal peoples!
PS: Sales are a very Good thing ;-)
Well put! I couldn't agree more!

sethsez: It's one of the most notoriously, infamously awful games ever made. The comments about it here aren't surprising at all.

Mr.Spatula: MoO3 is not one of the most awful games ever made, and few people really think that (that title goes to games like, for example, Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing)

It is, however, a very mediocre/poor game that had GREAT expectations, since MoO1 and MoO2 were so good (pretty much the best of the best for 4x games for a very long time). So combine high expectations with poor delivery and you have the ensuing massive disappointment and slamming of the game.

For anyone considering buying it just to see how bad it is... don't. It's not bad in a funny or interesting way.
No, I'd say it's legitimately on the same level as Big Rigs. It may be more stable and have a bigger budget, but it's equally unplayable and arguably even less fun. It's just not as funny.

I probably won't get around to playing these anytime soon, so I may as well wait until Christmas and see if they put them on 50% off. That way I can be more picky about what I buy and not have to pay $5 for something that obviously sounds quite horrible.

If I were you and if I liked strategy games, I'd buy the whole package. 4 great games, and err, a sequel.

And for me being me, I get this: "Nice, you own all games from this promo."

Worse than John Romero's Daikatana or Derek Smart's Battlecruiser 3000AD?

I've never played a 4X game, let alone a DOS era one, but I like SciFi and Fantasy literature a lot.
Should I give Master Of Orion and Master Of Magic a try or should I play some newer games of the genre? (I own Galactic Civilizations 2, which I read is very good).
Are these games for everyone or is it an acquired taste? Silly questions, I know...

Galactic Civilizations 2 is indeed a very good 4x title. Master of Orion 2 is in my opinion (and others) still the very best of the genre (it's in the package with master of Orion 1), despite many imitators. If you haven't played Master of Orion 2, it's worth playing for sure.

Master of Magic is also a very good game, mainly because they nailed so many different gameplay elements well. Graphically, it`s about at Civilization 1 level, if you`ve played that - VGA graphics or so. It`s still fun to play - and highly recommended provided you`re okay with the graphics. And its gameplay is still unique to this day.

If you`re looking for another game that is roughly in the same genre as Master of Magic with more up to date graphics, I`d suggest Age of Wonders. Lots of people like Age of Wonders 2: Shadow magic (a standalone expansion); personally I prefer Age of Wonders 1 because it gives you more control over your heroes, but tastes differ - and the graphics are admittedly improved with Age of Wonders 2: Shadow magic. Skip the straight game Age of Wonders 2, though - it doesn`t have anything Shadow Magic doesn`t do better.

Bottom line? Run, do not walk, to get Moo2. The graphics are decent and the gameplay can't be beat. Get Master of Magic as well if you're willing to deal with unsurpassed gameplay but much older graphics.

Thank You GOG. Masters of Magic and TA are at my v-shelf. TA is worth buying just for soundtracks. MoM is just fun. I remember playing Masters without sound card and with Megadeth at background :)
