Description

Enderal: Forgotten Stories is a total conversion for TES V: Skyrim: a game modification that is set in its own world with its own landscape, lore and story. It offers an immersive open world, all for the player to explore, overhauled skill systems and gameplay mechanics and a dark, psychological storyline with believable characters.

 

 

Enderal SE is free and can be played by anyone owning a legal copy of TES V: Skyrim (Special Edition). It was developed non-commercially by SureAI, the team behind the renowned Oblivion mod "Nehrim: At Fate´s Edge" (and various other projects), and later independently converted and maintained on the Skyrim SE engine by Eddoursul with help from other community members, most notably gavrant and overdev.   • An open world with its own lore and hand-crafted, detailed and diverse landscapes – explore deserts, heathlands, forests, jungles, mountains, and more.
  • An unconventional story with believable characters and psychological undercurrents.

  • Two "crafting classes" that utilize alchemy and enchanting for combat – use potions to shapeshift into a werewolf as the Lycantrope, use enchanting to craft spirit companions as the Phasmalist.

  • Twelve new sidequests and two non-linear guild questlines: Work your way up the Golden Sickle, Enderal's merchants guild and infiltrate the ranks of the Rhalâta, the enigmatic cult ruling the Undercity.

The very best that Skyrim can offer

I have this game on a Steam account. It is almost not fair to call this just a mod. It is a completely separate game on a Skyrim engine. At first, I thought that fan-made content cant be as good as official one, right? I was so wrong. Enderal has a compelling story with well-written characters, a beautiful world, and a lot of new game mechanics. It was already good as an Enderal: The Shards of Order but Forgotten Stories is even better.

As good as Skyrim

It doesn't have as much content as Skyrim, but it's still got an amount indistinguishable from that of some AAA games. The story/main quest is also a lot higher quality/more unique than Skyrim's, and is what sells the game for me. I completed the main quest in addition to a few side quests (on Steam), but I plan to return and 100% this at some point. I suspect there may be multiple endings too. In the title I say this game is as good as Skyrim, but (ignoring the fact that Enderal uses the Skyrim engine) if I had to choose between Skyrim or Enderal existing: I would choose Enderal.

Stellar Community Effort

What can I say? I heartily enjoyed the 117+ hours I spent with Enderal. I really can't say one bad thing about it. It's just so damn well made. It has superb writing, a cast of widely varied and interesting characters, and overall a very well designed world setting. I was also surprised by its excellent English translation - no real typos, grammar issues, or any awkward phrasings throughout its entirety - and the voice acting is pretty ace too considering it's more or less still an amateur production. I've played games with real budgets that don't have anywhere near that kind of quality.

Excellent Game!

I played this (the earlier version) and loved it. If you like Skyrim you'll love this - even though it's nothing like it. One observation though: The game FORCES you to learn and use the (complex) magic system. When I played it, a "sword & board" or archery build were simply not viable options.
