I have the Platinum Edition and the no launch with no error message problem, and I tried the solutions in page 1, but when I tried to force windowed mode, in the HKEY settings folder there are only entries for languages and a not determined entry with no determined value. Is there any other way? Thanks.

(I also asked on the official forums but so far no answer)
Is there a way to at least get it crashing to desktop instead of hard crashing like it keeps doing to me? My routine has become:

load, run ten paces, kill something, save, run ten paces, kill something, hard crash and reboot, load...

My specs are

64 bit Vista
Core 2 Duo E7400
4GB RAM
GTX 295
1000W PSU

You'd think that sort of machine would be able to run this at 1280x1024 on LOW, but apparently not... I've tried everything in this thread short of underclocking, which is really more disruptive than I think is appropriate.

Seriously I'd be happy if I could even get it to just CTD instead of hard crash.
Can it be 64 bit related? And are you using the latest Nvidia driver?

Tried to reply earlier but the GOG server had issues or something.

Anyway, I ran The Witcher on Windows 7 64-bit so I don't think the 64-bit OS is the problem. Rather, I think your graphics card might be causing problems, as it has two GPUs on it. The Witcher has known problems with SLI / Crossfire so it might also have problems with your dual-GPU card. Is it at all possible to set your card to run using only one GPU? That should still be more than enough power to run the game at high settings. I've never used a dual-GPU card before, though, so I don't know if that's something you can do.

If you can't change that setting, you should definitely be sure to find the absolute latest graphics drivers as they may improve performance in older games that have trouble with multiple GPUs.
Looks like the link to the bink32.dll file in my first post no longer works. Does anyone know if it's hosted somewhere else so I can update the link? Thanks!

That seems to have done it! I played for about an hour last night with no crashes. Thanks for the great advice!

Awesome, glad you got it working!
Another common problem is having a hard disk crash or a saved game become glitchy for some reason and needing to download a new one.

I maintain a saved game bank here. It has saved games from every chapter, so players should be able to find something that isn't TOO far from where they are.

If the difficulty level of a downloaded saved game is not what the player desires, Flash's Difficulty Potions Mod enables players to change the game's difficulty level. And if players need to reallocate the new game's talents to match their lost or glitched save, the Saved Game Editor can do that. It can also add or remove items from inventory if the lost saved game had something special that the downloaded game lacks.

These are saved games for playing TW1. If you want a saved game from the END of TW1 for import into TW2, see Kindo's saved games at The Witcher Nexus.

I found turning off Realtek's Dolby "sound space expander" stopped the random CTDs I was getting.

Thanks, I added this to the first post.

Audio and/or Video Skips / Stutters in Opening Cinematic: Often just a minor skip, but actually means that some frames are being dropped in the cinematic and the sound gets out of sync.

1) Back up the file binkw32.dll contained in your Witcher folder, and then replace it with the one found here.
this file in new downloded GOG version 2.0 is updated and better than the suggested one to download

Thanks for pointing this out, I haven't tried the 2.0 version yet. Just to be clear, does this mean that the stuttering in the opening cinematic is fixed in the current version available from GOG?
Hey everyone how's it going. I recently downloaded the witcher and everything went smooth until I went to play. I got the min system req not met. I followed the steps for the bypass and put -dontforceminreqs a space away from the end of everything in the target box hit apply and then ok and double clicked the shortcut again and hit launch game and got the same response again about not meeting the min reqs. Doe's anyone know another way that might work.vOS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
