Protoss: EDIT: How do I turn off the Voodoo watermark?
1) From the `dgVoodoo2_53.zip` archive unpack `dgVoodooSetup.exe` into `C:\GOG Games\The Settlers IV GOLD\Exe`
2) Run the extracted `dgVoodooSetup.exe`
3) Click the `.\` button - the `Config folder / Running instance` field should change to `C:\GOG Games\The Settlers IV GOLD\Exe`
4) Click the `DirectX` tab
5) Untick `dgVoodoo Watermark`
6) Click `OK`

If you have done this correctly, a file named `dgVoodoo.conf` will be created in `C:\GOG Games\The Settlers IV GOLD\Exe` and the next time you start Settlers, the watermark will be gone.

Hope this helps.

Protoss: What track exactly is the lost one? I have the German Retail Gold version and might be able to help out (that is, if GOG officials agree after asking BlueByte).
The one that was previously linked in the initial post:
https://mega.co.nz/#!aBwWgSpD!M5N1TVEjjacbGLKhQ6VA7Fbw8xU24qI9T4tmzT3yUi4

Now that you are saying, do you have the Retail Gold version or Gold+ version? Because I do have the Gold+ version on CD but the one Trojan track is duplicated there already (and the other one missing). So I'm curious if the regular Gold version differs.

PS: You can actually get the "New World" campain to appear in the menu by setting the right registry key (see below) and after copying the compains into the map folder from the Retail version, you can get until the campain information screen. Sadly right before starting it will say "please insert MIssion CD II" and remains unplayable.

Although it actually doesn't really do anything fully functional:
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/(WOW6432NODE/)BlueByte/Settlers4/
Create the key "Extra3" and open it. Create a DWORD called "CDVersion" and set it to 1508 decimal.

Is there any chance of GOG & co. getting that fixed?
avatar
iTrash: Is there any place where one can get the "lost trojan" track in decent quality?
The linked one to mega is really bad quality.
That track is directly from the expansion's files. Unless my copy was somehow damaged and you find another person that owns the Community Pack and is willing to share it, this is the best we're probably going to get...

Please note that the game's music itself is a mess: vanilla S4 music defaults to 256kbps, Trojan music to only 128kbps, and the"lost track"I uploaded to 320kbps. Every single file I checked was untouched(brand new GOG installation), and this is just one of the files' properties. I am sure someone more knowledgeable about music than me will be able to spot even more differences...

(I even remember someone asking me on my YT video if the track had been"cut by accident", and GOG Support mentioning that it ended abruptly. It has always ended that way AFAIK, if you were referring to that.)

As someone linked you earlier to, the'lost trojan track' is linked in the OP, and is a piece of music that I happened to find after installing an obscure expansion pack. It to be a simple oversight that was overlooked for very long, and only got spotted and fixed by miracle just before the EP was launched.

If you are referring to the unused viking tracks, those have been withing the game's files from the very beginning, but don't play for some reason(not even with the Community Pack, which fixed the other one).

Protoss: Also, the "New World" campaign on the German version is not on GOG. Or if it is, at least not in the English GOG version. Sadly the German version doesn't have the maps easily accessible [there is no Campaign folder], so there is no way to upload them easily (even if GOG would agree).
While you are correct in that they are not easily accesible(at least not in the correct map fyle type), there is actually a way to play the expansion's maps in an english release!

Germany had two expansion packs unreleased for the rest of the world(please correct me if they were released on another country); The New World and the Community Pack(which I mentioned earlier).
To keep the game compatible for multiplayer with other regions, neither of these expansions change the game version itself. Instead, both expansions simply add some files to the game that are recognized and displayed properly.

This means that, by copying the /[root]/Gfx folder, you are able to play'The New World'and the'Community Pack'on an international copy of the game. The only problem is that the campaigns were never translated, so they remain in german language. =(

I remember explaining how these expansions work on my blog(texture swapper entry), but my english was much rougher back then, and I did a very poor job in general explaining the whole concept. Maybe this would be an interesting topic on its own to cover in the future...

Also, I contacted GOG back in 2013, when I discovered the track, but they said that the track was too different to be included(as I mentioned before, the game's music is a mess). I have included a screenshot of the responde I got. I also tried to get them to add The New World, but that failed miserably too. =P

That's why I decided to try to spread awareness of it instead.

ZFR: What exactly is the problem?
I have now managed to get the game on after a lot of fiddling!! (I've fiddled that much I couldn't tell you what I've done) It's on but can't place any buildings so it's still no good, I've read on some forums other people have the same issue with the cursor being off set I think that's the reason, but still can't find a solution.. Help would be much appreciated!!
hello all.

I have trouble running settlers 4 gold on win10.
Heres how it goes down:

Install settlers 4 and run it directly. ----->get software/hardware 3d error

downloads the german fix people tell should help with this "setup_die_siedler_4_gold_edition_fix_2.3.0.0.zip"

Installs it and runs it again. The software/hardware error is gone but instead I get a blackscreen with a blue circle "thinking" until I press a button and the application crashes.

Downloaded dgvodoo2 v2.52and followed the instructions. But it did nothing for me. Still end up with the black screen and a blue circle until it crashes.

Im running win10 64bit home with geforce gtx 1080 and desktop resolution 1920x1080 60hz.

anyone got any tips? I have experienced some with compabilty but the only thing I noticed was taht when I chose win98/me or win xp service pack 3 it still got stuck but didnt crash. instead I was stuck with a black screen and had to restart the computer.

UPDATE:
ok I noticed that the game actually started after approx. 3 minutes doing nothing. :)

I can't seem to change the games resolution. It doent matter what I choose in the config/gamesettings.
When I get ingame the resolution is allways 800x600 and no widescreen. (using the widescreen fix)
When I change the resolution ingame the game crashes.

Hi there,

I got Settler IV running with DXGL on Win10 without any other applied "Fix Patches" for the
3D Initialisation Error messages.
I've attached my actual settings. S4 is running without applying any compatibility settings
to S4.exe or S4_main.exe.
I'm using a gfxengine.dll mod to fit the game resolution to my 4k screen though.
May be the "The Settlers 4 - Widescreen Tool" will work for you.

Hi guys

Have problem with settlers IV
When i want to start the game nothing happens (not even graphic error)

My PC is win 10 64-bit
Hi,

Does it make any difference if you try to start with S4_Main.exe in the "Exe" sub folder instead of
the standard S4.exe in the Settler IV main folder?

morphy
Hi
I tried both of them and they werent working.
I already got it. I just had to download new patch. Before on my windows 7 I was able to play it without patch.
Thanks for answer
