trusteft: That's silly. Why not? If one plans on buying the game on release, why not pre order it and just get the discount?
avatar
Fenixp: Why not buy it on release? What's the difference?
Two reasons:
1) Digital preorders exist for a single reason only: To sell games before they get widely reviewed based on hype, so even crap games get a lot of income.
2) Getting digital preorders means that you're supporting the entire preorder bonuses nonsense with your money.

So basically, the reason to not do preorders is that you're not supporting bad publishing habits.

If you have a bit of time, take a look at this, TB explains the entire issue quite well
First of all, I COULDN'T CARE LESS WHAT TB SAID.

Now that we have that out of the way.

I don't pre order games.
BUT, if one has already decided to buy a game no matter what ASAP, then it is STUPID to not pre order the game when it gets you a discount.

If you don't get what I say or you just disagree, well, I don't care either way, but that's my point.
Judging this based on the screenshots alone and the written blurb about it. Looks like Shadow Warrior without any of the charm or humor. Looks like a boring gritty shooter. Not saying it for sure is going to be but just my first impression. Worth the price tag? I don't think so. I'll keep an eye out just cause I love the original shadow warrior, but that was because Lo Wang was funny.

Eh... Okay? I guess good arguments are automatically invalidated by who made them. At any rate, why are you asking the question "Why not? If one plans on buying the game on release, why not pre order it and just get the discount?" and then follow that up with "If you don't get what I say or you just disagree, well, I don't care either way, but that's my point." I mean, if you don't care about gaming industry, that is your own predicament, but why on earth would you ask a question and then tell me that you don't care about a honest answer?

Yeah, it's not really Shadow Warrior. But it seems to be pretty decent game from what I've gathered - very Painkiller-ish.

Yeah, one of the few things I could do without in the modern gaming distribution.

Rhetorical question. Google it.

HiPhish: I'd rather see the remastered classic Shadow Warrior on GoG, which is free on Steam. Should I be grateful that Devolver is giving us the old game as a preorder bonus while Steam users get the remastered edition for free without having to purchase anything? And since Shadow Warrior Classic is a preorder bonus there is little chance it will ever be free, let alone upgraded to the remastered game.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. The redux version is not free, it's the regular classic version that's free.
EDIT 2: Still doesn't change the fact that it would be nice to have Shadow Warrior Redux here available for purchase as well. And the remastered Duke Nukem 3D as well.
Thanks for pointing that out. Might just check out Shadow Warrior Classic on Steam now. :)
Looks great! This is what Duke Forever should have been. Wishlisted, because I have to many games yet to play.

I'm fairly sure you should have googled it before me. Rhetorical questions are used to insinuate discussion, especially on, you know, discussion boards. If you don't want an answer, you either don't ask a question or you do what you would do if actually didn't care about an answer and, you know, do not follow up. But you have asked a quesiton, without hinting in any way that you don't want it answered, and then you get mad at me for trying to satisfy your curiosity politely if I might say so myself. So... Yeah, thanks for that, really nice.

xxxIndyxxx: wow gamersgate sell it for 21€. What's going on here??
WTF? For me GamersGate says €29.74, which equals to $39,34 (compared to GOG.com's $33.99).

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-SWARRIOR/shadow-warrior

And it is a mere Steam key anyway.

EDIT: So for some reason some europeons see it as 21€, others (like me) 29.74€. Odd, I didn't think Netherlands would belong to a lower regional pricing area than e.g. Finland. Or are you guys really that poor there?

what happens to Lo Wang ???? Q_Q

All you had to do was keep the original aspect of Wang..... :/

I'll buy it anyway.......
It's such a shame that this appears to be "Hard Reset with an Asian setting." Super linear level design, few if any puzzles to solve, and none of the character and humor that the original had. This is of course only based on the multitude of early gameplay videos available, but I'll be shocked if the final version is any different considering it's releasing in a few weeks. Don't get me wrong, it looks fun, but it also doesn't look like Shadow Warrior at all.

I recommend you to watch TB' video linked by Fenixp as well.
He makes good points.

Preorder of something you can get the minute it is released is pointless and you only increases the chance that you will burn yourself with the purchase.
You don't have single feedback on the game and it makes hype and advertisment more important than quality of game itself when people buy before the game is released.

I honestly doubt it. Duke Nukem Forever wasn't all that bad. This just looks like one arena after another. If that is the case i rather replay DNF or even Daikatana for that matter.

Agreed 100%. TotalBiscuit's take on pre-orders should be viewed by EVERY gamer out there because it's so true and important.
