Licurg: Post above yours says GG is selling it for 29 euros, which is more than what it costs on GOG . Maybe it's a pricing glitch on your side ?
avatar
xxxIndyxxx: Just checked it: still 21.24 Euro. But I am not sure how gamersgate works exactly. I did have some extra discounts in the past because of my "level" so maybe it's related to that...
Nope. Haven't bought anything from GG, still get the same thing. Since I don't see any -XX% stickers, I'd say that it's a glitch, though I don't really have any experience with GG.

Vitek: I saw Total Bicuit's WTF is... of this just 2 days ago and he was really enthusiastic about it and it indeed looked very nice so I am quite interested in this game.

With this said, one should not pre-order games. Certainly not from digital distributors.

trusteft: That's silly. Why not? If one plans on buying the game on release, why not pre order it and just get the discount?
Because you'll never know if the game you get will be a stinker to you. It's possible you'll play the game and enjoy it less than you thought you would, so much that you may wish to return it. But you can't, because of the nature of digital purchases in general, so you're out $34 and nothing to show for it.
It seems a little pricey for what it is. Rise of the Triad came with good bonuses and was only $15. Plus it included multiplayer.
I would have expected it to priced at a maximum of $20, which I still would consider too much. I haven't seen anything that would suggest that this is a game above average. Still, might be fun but not at that price point. This is one pre-order I won't hesitate to skip. If reviews are good it is a consideration when it eventually will go on sale.

My point was, based on what he said, if you have ALREADY decided to buy the game when it is released, it is silly nto not get the discount that comes with the pre order.
Obviously if you want to wait for reviews/etc then you are better off waiting for them.
Gamersgate has it listed for the same price as here for only a steam key on their US site.

I agree. I pre-ordered RoTT because I figured even if the game didn't turn out that well (Which actually it turned out good), I had 3 other classic games I got with it for my $15. At a base price of $40 I'll hold off for specials.

Why not buy it on release? What's the difference?
Two reasons:
1) Digital preorders exist for a single reason only: To sell games before they get widely reviewed based on hype, so even crap games get a lot of income.
2) Getting digital preorders means that you're supporting the entire preorder bonuses nonsense with your money.

So basically, the reason to not do preorders is that you're not supporting bad publishing habits.

If you have a bit of time, take a look at this, TB explains the entire issue quite well

Wasn't really a fan of the original but the trailer at least looks cool.
$40 on release?! $34 preorder?

The hell with that... my money will go towards it on a HEAVY sale... so maybe 3 weeks after release IMO... >_>
Just read a review about it on a Dutch tech site. They got to play the game. They are positive about it and call it a game for fans of old shooters.
Downsides they mention are the lack of humor and the game being linear.
They stated they didn't play a finished product and that it might change.

Just checked a few other reviews and they all state the lack of humor from the original.

For the Dutch speaking:

I've seen the WTF is... video from TotalBiscuit; nice game for fans of games like Painkiller, but I personally find Painkiller just boring.

I'd rather see the remastered classic Shadow Warrior on GoG, which is free on Steam. Should I be grateful that Devolver is giving us the old game as a preorder bonus while Steam users get the remastered edition for free without having to purchase anything? And since Shadow Warrior Classic is a preorder bonus there is little chance it will ever be free, let alone upgraded to the remastered game.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. The redux version is not free, it's the regular classic version that's free.
EDIT 2: Still doesn't change the fact that it would be nice to have Shadow Warrior Redux here available for purchase as well. And the remastered Duke Nukem 3D as well.

Yeah they use the term old school shooter to easily imo. Rise of the triad is oldschool-ish. Good level design but still not complex enough, but it's closer then will get for a while a guess. This is more like painkiller: corridor, arena, corridor, arena. Painkiller never felt like a true oldschoolgame and this is actually quite boring level design. Throwing a lot of enemies at you without a cover mechanic does not instantly transform your game into an oldshool shooter i think. Shadow warrior seems to fail to grasp that and as such is only a reboot in name. Hell they could have called it Sword Warrior and nobody would notice it is actually shadow warrior. The team that did RoTT understand at least what an old school shooter is.

BTW This doesn't mean this game won't be good, i just wouldn't classify it as an oldschool shooter or as a shadow warrior...
I am definitely interested in this game, however I will wait until release to ensure that my experience with pre-ordering RoTT (still quite unplayable on my end btw) will not be repeated.
