Navagon: Mass Effect 2 is actually a great game, but a truly terrible sequel, despite in many ways being better than the first game. So I guess that counts, even if it's not what you meant. It was as if someone decided to just completely rewrite everything - failing to take into account the fact that the original still exists.

...
You people are really scaring me with ME2 :P I've been looking forward to playing it for a while now, ever since being blown away by the original not too long ago, in no small because of the awesome, original story and how it was conveyed :-\

I played Mass Effect 2 a couple of weeks ago.

Just play it, no shame in it. There are great moments. Do you have all the essential DLC? Zaeed, Kasumi, Firewalker missions, Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker, and Arrival?

You know what I'm not sure, I'll have to check. I received the game as a gift, so I'd imagine it's only the base game

Steam version, and I quickly checked; the only dlc I have is a so-called Cerberus key

It's a damn good game. But there are significant rewrites to the Mass Effect story and characters that cannot simply be overlooked. Bioware clearly wanted to do something a bit more morally ambiguous with that one and they had to shoehorn the existing story into their desired form. So expect a few WTF moments.

Eh then the aquiring of DLC mabye be a bit more tricky. Because than you have to buy it from bioware's website.

All copies are eligible to a free DLC pack which you need to activate online (one new team member, some extra gear, and a set of extra missions); for all the rest you have to pay. I'm not linking the full list because one DLC name could spoil you the intro. :)

Also, ME2 is not a bad game at all, it's actually my favourite in the series, but it's also the point where the main plot took a, uhm, weird turn. That said, as long as you can find the Normandy crew likeable, you'll probably enjoy the game too.

Matewis: Off the top of my head, from what I've read, Sacred 3 sounds pretty damn ridiculously awful
To be able to put into context, I must ask - how did you rate Sacred Gold?

And so that it be quite clear at what I am driving at: Sacred Gold I would struggle on and even enjoy it with quite a buggy installation, but Sacred 2 lacked any charm to me, even if when it was quite bug free.

I would hope Sacred 3 would try to distinguished itself after a previous miss. Maybe it did not - but if you did not play it, do you quite know?
Unreal 2. This is one of the worst fps I have ever played and its a sequel to one of the best. It has an impressive engine and beautiful art but it just plain feels awful. I'd take Blood 2 or Daikatana over it any day.
From experience, I would have to agree with Snickersnack. Pretty, but boring as hell. And that ending... *sigh*

I'm not saying there aren't more shameful ones, but I haven't played them yet.

Cool :) I probably won't get round to it for a while though in any case, and I think I'll probably replay the original first once I build myself a proper gaming rig again, because it was such an awesome experience (especially the climactic end fight).

I never played Sacred's expansion, only the original, but I did finish it. I thought it was a great game, though extremely buggy, especially in multiplayer. Thankfully patches came out that sorted out a lot of the issues.

I only played the demo of Sacred 2, and it didn't quite grab me. I remember thinking that it felt too, generic...

As for Sacred 3, it distinguished itself alright, to put it mildly. Doesn't even sound much like a rpg at all. Here's TB's take on it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=To9mlwF95k4

aluinie: Dragon Age 2 what where they thinking.
I cannot say that the repeated environments did not get slightly boring by Chapter 3 in Dragon Age 2 --- but better they invested in story telling and enjoyable combat.

In terms of story telling depth, hard topicality and overall trueness Dragon Age 2 is my personal favourite with Planescape Torment!

Ever.

Take any dogmatic religious stand. Refugee crises. Ethnic slums. Bigotness, poverty, terrorism, power structures forcing the issue.

Dragon Age 2 was about the darkness of the human heart, IMO. As deeply as PS:T delved into the nature of man.

Inquisition - my vote, then again.

R8V9F5A2: Mass Effect 2.

They removed too many of the things I really liked about the first game, I did not like the storyline in the slightest, and the narration itself was terrible in comparison to the first game. It spoiled the whole series for me, I don't even feel like replaying the first game.
Yes! I'm glad i'm not the only one. Loved the first game and then the second one just lost it's soul.

tinyE: Does DN Forever have any securom or crap on it?
avatar
Matewis: :) Don't even think about it man, seriously. I bought DNF purely out of principle. What principle it was exactly I don't remember, but it was probably a very stupid one. It's one of the few games I was actively wishing to come to an end as I was playing it :P
If only I had taken the money and spent it on instead. I only ever played the demo, and I remember that it was a lot of fun
Duke Nukem Forever wasn't that bad at all. Infact it was better than some shooters I played that year. If you really want to see a bad Duke sequel try this piece of shit. [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CbuAx-GK9U]People tend to forget these games existed! This was the fairly decent one too, they got worse.
