If Gog wants to grow up as a platform for games you need to large companies, without them ever progress. The users that have Gog in this time always is going to have, but there will be no new users if they are not sold in the Gog "big" games. But I want to congratulate Gog by the drm free, i will have as a user.

Gesundheit!
Mainly cuz the games listed above, go against all of the principles GOG has made for the games they had in their website?, even if sometimes they have been hipocritical about it as well?
If we can get Cities: Skylines, the Mass Effect Trilogy + ALL DLC/etc., rest of assassin creed games, and all of Bethesda games, I'll be happy. (well I do own them all on other platforms, but I still love gog)

this may sound amazing but it is possible the thrive with out the likes of call of duty around
Most AAA companies make their games to rely on: always online DRM, anticheat technology (VAC), mod (Workshop) and DLC integration, Steam fullfills these requirements, while the first one can be removed , not sure if the other can be or even if GOG has any implementation of them.

Fenixp: Altho 5 is great, IV is DRM-free retail and after you purchase is with expansions, you're pretty much set for life.

Dzsono: Why am I only just learning this now?!

OK, initial incredulous reaction aside, I just checked a certain site that distributes .exe cracks. It seems there is DRM on Civ IV:
- SafeDisc v4 (C4: v4.60 / BtS: v4.60/v4.81) + Custom Code (SDAPI)
- SecuROM v7 (C4C)

Do have a link to this DRM-free version you speak of?
The US version of Civ4: Complete with patches 1.74, 2.13 and 3.19., Civilization Chronicles had the base game DRM free, too (if i recall correct)

Verrry interesting. Thanks!
If Call of Duty gets released here, I'm not going to buy anything on gog for at least a week! And that's quite a lot! So the GOG staff wouldn't be able to purchase their office Whirlpool right away!

Tarm: I'd love to have Civilization 1 and 2 here. 4 would be very nice too. :)
avatar
sxnc: Don't forget 3! :-)
I'm trying real hard but people keep reminding me. :/

Alright you can have the third one. ;)

GOG needs to convince these publishers to release newer games here, though. At the moment, GOG feels like the platform AAA publishers use to squeeze as much money as possible from older titles which have stopped selling everywhere else.

That's where GOG started, and what GOG used to be, but GOG has been trying to grow beyond that.

I know there are people who would prefer that GOG had just stayed as that, and I certainly have no objection to the 'Good Old Games' aspect of GOG's business, but for GOG to grow beyond being a minor niche business and potentially challenge current market thinking, GOG had to start selling newer stuff. Now they just need the publishers to let them.
Let us hope that large publishers end up selling their games in Gog.i am user of steam but many users are tired of the abusive policies of valve.

Unlikely, they are very fond of DRM and refuse to accept, that they are actually making the piracy scene flourish by it.
