Fuzzyfireball: But that's not true, some games do get improvements. Updated DOSBOX/ScummVM, added nGlide, small fixes like Shogo's little font changer thing (at least I think that's what it is.), etc.

Edit: Also don't forget about the compatibility setting bug the V2 installers fix.

Crosmando: Well either way, GOG themselves have obviously weighed the pros and cons of flagging or not flagging 2.0 repackaging as updates, they obviously thought that it wasn't worth getting users to redownload entire games for changes which are small. Especially for those of us in parts of the world with a limited monthly bandwidth cap on downloads, it could be a big thing having to redownload multiple GB's every time GOG repackaged in the new 2.0.
You keep ignoring the fact that if they communicated what the changes were nobody would download anything they did not explicitly decide they wanted and felt was worth the download.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT MAKING PEOPLE DOWNLOAD STUFF WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THAT STUFF IS!

It is about communicating with customers and letting them make their own choice.
Lets look at it from another point of view - money.

I paid $5.99 for a v1 game 6 months ago and it was then updated to v2 but I received no notification because there were no bug fixes.

Some friend of yours buys it today for $2.99 and obviously gets the v2 installer - they aren't aware of any 'older' installers and wouldn't particularly care.

Tomorrow, there's a financial meltdown and GOG gets liquidated (god forbid!).

Now who ain't going to be pissed off when they find out that their friend has a newer version of the installer/game than yours?

My point is that you should always be informed of the latest files available for download - bug fixed or NOT!
Does anyone know if any of the gog games were replaced by worse versions in the last 12 months (it can be due to licensing or newer version might be brokend etc)? Or are there any extras that were removed? I was thinking of redownloading my collection and replacing them with the old files.

Actually, we replaced the Pinball Gold Pack with a better version that includes CD Audio and such.

Yeah, but can u think of any examples where you had to replace with inferior versions? For example, some tracks were removed from some games due to licensing. Or Fallouts were replaced by censored versions if I'm not mistaken. Are there any such examples within the last year?

As far as I can remember, no. It's been the opposite this year as we're replacing versions perceived as inferior with superior versions and/or adding another version like we did with Another World 20th Anniversary where you can still freely download the previous version.

Regarding the Fallouts, since I did not personally work on getting those games out I may not be 100% correct, but the censored Fallout (the first IIRC) has ALWAYS been the censored version and we never actually replaced the uncensored version with a censored one.

The only example I can think of in regards to 'inferior" versions would be the Realms of Arkania series where we had to remove some of the audio due to legal and licensing issues. I don't recall any other example of the kind, but feel free to prove me wrong :D.

How do you weigh the chances of some kinda amendment to GOG's license for the RoA games so we get the CD audio with English translation?

Not sure if I can actually talk about something that specific. Sorry :(

From what I remember, tracks where removed from extras. English versions of RoA 1-2 never supported CD-Audio, only German release had them in-game.

Thank you for your reply. In addition to RoA, I can think of Rayman and Capitalism series. But I'm not sure if they always lacked the audio tracks or if they were removed later on.

DOS version of Capitalism Plus doesn't support CDAudio either. Only Windows release does.

Like Judas wrote, we can't really answer that type of questions ;)
