Elmofongo: Best Star Trek TOS Episodes?

For me:

Balance of Terror
Space Seed
The Devil in the Dark
Arena
The Man Trap
The Changeling
The Doomsday Machine (My absolute fav)
Journey to Babel
Trouble with the Tribbles (it surprised me)
The Ultimate Computer (though in some cases it feels like another attempt at the same plot the Changling did)
Let This Be Your Last Battlefield
Although i generally prefer The Next Generation - these are good episodes. My personal favourite is the Tribble episode :)
Because you liked 'Trouble with Tribbles' you should really watch the DS9 episode 'Trials and Tribble-ations' :)

Next Generation has am much bigger budget and production values?

More sets? More "alien" looking non humans. Kligons look like klingons. Please tell me the show has less "Whacky" episodes then TOS? Do they cut down on Time Travel episodes? Or any references to historical things?
not a huge tos fan

the tholian web
the naked time ( or now i always confuse those two )
the devil in the dark
balance of terror
trouble with tribbles
the doomsday machine

but the best of everything that includes tos is star trek II the wrath of khan
none of the star trek movies come even close to that one
not the tos ones
not the tng ones
not the reboot ones

The only 2 Star Trek movies that fans find generally good (but of course will not be as perfect as Wrath of Khan was) is Undiscovered Country and First Contact.

yes
for the time being anyway each episode was around 1 to 2 million

klingons look like movie klingons ( the klingons as we know them now were introduced in the motion picture )

there are "humor" episodes some are awfull some are decent

there are a few time travel episodes ( time's arrow comes to mind now )

there are more sets though quite a few are redresses and reuses of the movie sets

the first season is the worst its a show that is desperatley trying to find its own identiy and misfires quite often
but among all the dross there is still quality in tng season 1

season 2 is also hit and miss but more hit then miss and season 3 is where tng finds its own idenity and from 3 on the series fires on all cylinders

Agreed. Star Trek II is the best movie (with First Contact assecond best imho)
And it's Naked Time ;)

Yes. Next Generation has a bigger budget and yes Klingons look like Klingons. I admit that don't remember all 178 Episodes of it but there should be less wacky episodes but the episodes involving Q tend to be sorta wacky.. And there also some time-travel episodes...

i didnt like first contact much

i have problems with how easy it is to time travel in star trek and if its so easy for both sides to do it why didnt the borg traveled back in time before ?

but unless a certain blue box or a certain car are involved i generally dont like time travel stories
especially if its so effortless as in first contact

i liked generations but it felt like a big budget tv episode

i also didnt mind nemesis but i am one of the few there ( i liked it because the two ships seem to be wailling in to each other and both are badly damaged and this isn a series where most ships seem to be made from tin foil and explode on a whim )

There is a 'rule' that only the Star Trek movies with even numbers are cionsidered good (until Nemesis happened - although it isn't as bad as many people claim) :)

i didnt like first contact much undiscovered country is much better even if it feels a bit truncated
but its a great tos send off

i skip the Q episodes usually
i liked the one where picard and 3 others were turned in to children ..i just thought it was funny
or where picard was stuck in a turbo lift with 3 children ( he is uncomfortable around children ) same episode saw commander woof be nursemaid to keiko giving birth ( i dont like worf does it show ? )

the pegasus was also a good episode i thought and showed some of the darkness that woudl come to the fore in DS9

I question that because that suggests The Voyage Home is a good movie?

Also Even numbered movies that are kinda good (or at least worth a watch) is the first movie, the Search for Spock, and Generations.

Yes - i forgot about Undiscovered Country which was actually the first Star Trek i watched. That was a good one. Have you ever watched the DC of it?

Yeah most of the Q episodes are rubbish although some of them are quite important like the Borg episode.
The episodes you mentioned were okayish imho but i liked the idea of Picard feeling uncomfortable around children.

I always had problems with shiny perfect Federation - that's why i really liked the darker episodes in the later seasons of TNG (after Gene Roddenberry died) and DS9 :)

yes it is
it is an time travel movie and the environment message is laid on a bit thick
but it is mostly fun to see the enterprise crew interacting with a late 20th century setting

Q is the exact same character Discord from My Little Pony was trying to emulate.

As i mentioned earlier it's not that bad as many people claim but i'm not huge fan of it - although the battle scenes in it are fantastic :)

But wouldn't that be odd numbered movies? The frist movie can be enjoyable but Search for Spock wasn't good imho. Generations is definitely worth a watch. I know a lot of people who like The Voyage Home and it's again okay if you like the more humourous approach...

not that i recall the version of 6 i have is around 106 minutes

i didnt really like the borg episode mostly because it moved so slow
that is a problem i have with tng there is no urgency everything is squeeky clean and leasurly
there is very little tension
when it does things it does it well but when it slips it slips up badly

well my opinion is suspect anyway ;p
i like the royale and peak performance from season 2 ;p

yes i always disliked the shiny perfect depiction of the federation it just rings hollow thats not how humans are not now and i doubt that we wil be in 400 years either
