The only Kickstarter I ever donated to was Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded, so maybe I'll donate to this to balance that back out, and a guaranteed GOG copy is definitely incentive.

Bouchart: They made two Shadowrun games and can't finance a third one without passing the collection plate around over at Kickstarter? Do they need the money for a new game engine?
It says on the Kickstarter they've managed to self-fund half the game, which is why they're asking for a 100k goal rather than the 400k goal of Shadowrun Returns.
Good news everyone!
hm! just noticed kickstarter isnt using amazon payments anymore. hm.

It's because Amazon is closing down their Payments service. While I am no more a fan of change than the next guy, I think they did the best they could given the situation. Now, you don't have to be taken away from their site to finalize your payment and, if you want to, you can save your CC# for future backing convenience.
I liked Amazon payments, on account that Amazon seems far more trustworthy than the likes of Paypal and nameless handlers of coin.
Probably will back this to the next paycheck. Gonna hurt me, but they delivered last time. So i feel compelled to return the favor.
As HBS eventually got the SR:R released on GOG and refunded me fully because of the brief Steam-exclusive phase, I have no reason not to pledge for their projects again, but thanks to the rather unclear shipping charges and the new payment system I didn't pledge nearly as high as the first time.
So guys, I'm pretty hyped about this at this point. I haven't bought the other Shadowrun games because 1) I got too many already and 2) I was thinking the games may be too tactical.

But I've heard only praise (at least for Dragonfall, the first games seems not to be that good) and I've even played a Shadowrun campaign on a forum once, so I could say I dig the setting.

But since I'm a story person, that's what I'm looking for. A nice story (and worldbuilding) which captivates me. And I need to know I won't fail at combat :P

And since this is a standalone game, I could probably play it first and get the other games if I like it...I still need some feedback on this, though :D
If you are looking for story and atmosphere, SRR and Dragonfall are prety much the best modern things around : wonderful writing, great characters, music and stories. But it's not an heroic tale : it's dark and dirty like the streets of the sprawl.

It's tactical, but if it's a problem for you, you just have to play it on easy and enjoy the story. SRR has a great story, even if linear. If it's your thing, don't skip it.

These games are totally worth it for story and atmosphere. I tend to like story heavy games as well, and the Shadowrun games definitely deliver. Don't be too worried about the combat. I suck at tactical combat myself, but I was able to play through these games on easy just fine. Didn't lose/die at all in the Returns one, and only messed combat up a few times during the Dragonfall game - still, once you realize where you're going wrong, it's easy enough to win the harder battles as well.

Listen chummer, Dragonfall is wiz and you should break out the nuyen. It was re-released as a standalone version which is bigger and better than the first game.

Dark and dirty is good. Gotta get a break from fantasy RPGs once in a while (my favorite one - although an adventure RPG - is Mass Effect. Sci-Fi FTW! :D)

Thank you all for the replies! This sounds good indeed! I take it there are no consequences from playing on easy (less exp. etc.)?
I'll probably back Hong Kong and get the rest of the games during a promo then!

madth3: I have not backed up a game in a long time in kickstarter, but this, I might.

Oh, and you might want to add to the first post

Will there be a DRM-free option?

Yes. DRM-free through GoG and the Humble Store.

madth3:
I've largely stopped backing these. But, in light of the fact that they were ultimately able to deliver on their promise of having the game available DRM free for purchase, I'm likely to back it.

My main hesitation is that the previous game was a bit too linear for my taste and there were definite right and wrong character types to build. Some of the classes were almost impossible whereas others were quite easy.

I'd like to know that there going to do something about that before I back.

comradegarry: I need to buy & see how good dragonfall is before even thinking about this new one :\

cw8: Dragonfall is amazing. Miles ahead in almost every aspect compared to vanilla SRR. It's definitely one of my favourite RPGs of 2014, one of the few RPGs to keep me enthralled into its world and characters in recent times since a very long while ago. If it was as long as WL2 and D:OS whilst keeping the atmosphere, dialogue and writing, it'll definitely be my undisputed GOTY.

Heck, it's universally positively appraised at the Codex. Says heck a lot about the game.

Definitely backing Hong Kong. Love HK since I'm from SG. Would definitely love the setting. Shame they didn't include any boxed sets in the KS, I was ready to throw my money for the boxed set.

"PC Only Release

Shadowrun: Hong Kong is being developed for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems only. We have elected to focus all our efforts on PC in order to deliver the best game we can without the current processing and memory limitations of tablets. This focus allows us to have higher-fidelity visuals, larger map sizes, and more stuff on screen."

HELL YES
I'll have to consider buying it then. I've got the original SRR, but not the later one.

Especially if they're focusing on the PC over the console.
