deonast: seems to be a love it or hate it with the intro on Enterprise with the music, I'm in the love it category with the intro. I only saw up to season 2 so I look forward to watching it soon.
If you are just starting Season 3, you are in for a treat with that one. This time instead of going for more stand-alone episodes there is just one long story-arc which I thought was very well-done. Season 4 sort of went back to the mini-standalones (more two-part-er episodes) but still well done and at the same time addressed many of the "How did X come to pass/be" questions that may pop up for elements shown in TOS, TNG, and DS9 (cannot comment on Voyager-see below).
deonast: I'm going to watch them in Lore Chronology so Enterprise, then original Series, TNG and I hope they start releasing some Blu-rays for Deep Space 9 and Voyager. These days I after sampling a few episodes I end up just buying TV seasons until the last one hits then start watching (time permitting).
I really disliked at first the changing in history of the last two star trek films, but I'm ok with it now just have to think of it as a parallel universe and the original stuff is still happening in another.
That is exactly what I did - I watched them in order of the chronology via Netflix, starting with Enterprise, then TOS, then TNG, and finally DS9. That is why only Voyager remains. As for the new ones, that is how I am treating them: a parallel universe version that pays homage to the original chronology, actors, and characters.
deonast: But I've always been more fond of Babylon 5, it started off weak but drew me in. It just couldn't get enough market, the spin off series only had one season. Doubt I'll ever see it on Blu-ray so at some point I'm going to have to devote some CPU cycles to upscaling my DVD collection to 720p or 1080p a necessary compromise for todays tvs.
When it comes to Sci-Fi TV shows I cut my teeth on B5 and own all 5 seasons, the made-for-TV movie collection, and what was made of the first season of Crusade. Only ones missing are the Legend of the Rangers pilot and the collection of mini-movies (actually, I think Legend of the Rangers may be included in that compilation). But yes, I liked B5 more because I felt it focused more on the diplomatic side of things and not always just from the perspective of a voyaging captain.
I feel that there is plenty of room for spin-offs in that universe, and would not mind if either the Legend of the Rangers or Crusade got a re-boot. There just needs to be visibility, engaging writing, and decent funding. The visuals of even the early B5 CGI still hold up well today.
But I digress. Not sure when I will get to watching Voyager though-I try to watch all of a show when I get to it, and I had a few others in my queue ahead of it. We'll see. I am starting to get an itch for a Sci-Fi show and it will come down to Voyager, Falling Skies, and I think one or two others I cannot remember off-hand.
Quick side rant: really really wish Netflix would get Gene Roddenbery's Andromeda... I bought a collection of the first 5 episodes, liked the lay-up and setting, but the way the DVDs were packaged and sold was and still is way to pricey for me.
