PixelBoy: If you don't own TOS and TAS, you don't care about Star Trek that much.

There's a pretty easy way to count whether you like Star Trek or not:

TOS - every season box gives you 100 points.
TAS - season box gives you 80 points.
TNG - every season box gives you 75 points.
DS9 - every season box gives you 50 points.
VOY - every season box gives you 1 point.
ENT - every season box gives you -100 points.

If you get over 400 points, you may call yourself a Trekkie.

(For clarity's sake, I left out movies, because there's no easy way to make a scoring for those...)

real.geizterfahr: So... 7 seasons of TNG, 7 seasons of DS9 and 7 seasons of Voyager net me 882 Trekkie Points :P

TOS is a strange thing. I ocassionally watch single episodes on TV, but I think more than that isn't bearable without lots of alcohol... I mean... Half of the show is "Pyjama Kirk vs. Mini-Godzilla" oO Styrofoam rocks and diving suit costumes are just too much for me... But maybe that's because I'm a child of he 80s and grew up with TNG.
I'm a child of the 80's too really, thanks for the Suggestion I'll try a bit of alcohol when I watch my blu-ray set see if it helps.

deonast: People were mixed on the soundtrack too, I liked that intro enough that I found it on amazon not long ago and bought it. Now it is in FLAC format on my server for easy recall. Hmm only one left in stock http://www.amazon.com/Enterprise-Kevin-Kiner/dp/B0000658PQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1420845000&sr=1-2&keywords=star+trek+enterprise

Bought the series on Blu-ray when they released it still haven't got around to watching it yet.
avatar
Matruchus: I watched most of it and had the greatest shock when the mirror universe intro appeared. Youtube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfbsZRbwbJ4

I wish that somebody would make a new Star Trek series but not in the new mirror universe used in the cinema now. It should be the old which much more interesting and not just about brawn.
I think I missed out on seeing the series when it was on TV after season 2. Our TV networks have the worst habit of changing time slots, moving things to late night or disappearing things that you eventually stop watching series. Hence I'm buying a lot of TV on Blu-ray (BRD) these days so if I do have the time I can watch when I want to.

In December I bought Voyager and DS9 as I'm not sure they will ever get to BRD, apparently Paramount was looking into it but they are less popular than TNG and a lot more CGI special effects need to be recreated which costs.

Guess I'm not that much of a fan, but I now own all of them on Blu-ray or DVD except for TAS, hell I don't even know what that stands for. Anyone care to fill me in?
--- Edit --
Wait a second does that stand for The Animated Series? In which case I say I've never seen it, maybe it didn't air on TV in Australia much.

If that is what TAS means, don't feel too bad. I am a child of the 80's myself here in the States and have somehow missed that one too. Did not even know it existed until i read this release thread.

Excluding TAS, watched all of them on DVD except Voyager, which is in my queue.

And of the intros to each of the shows I watched so far, my personal favorite is the Enterprise one. It is catchy and full of confidence and optimism. Interesting thing is given how much I love that one, the Mirror Universe episode intro tops it still!

Edited for clarity.

seems to be a love it or hate it with the intro on Enterprise with the music, I'm in the love it category with the intro. I only saw up to season 2 so I look forward to watching it soon.

I'm going to watch them in Lore Chronology so Enterprise, then original Series, TNG and I hope they start releasing some Blu-rays for Deep Space 9 and Voyager. These days I after sampling a few episodes I end up just buying TV seasons until the last one hits then start watching (time permitting).

I really disliked at first the changing in history of the last two star trek films, but I'm ok with it now just have to think of it as a parallel universe and the original stuff is still happening in another.

But I've always been more fond of Babylon 5, it started off weak but drew me in. It just couldn't get enough market, the spin off series only had one season. Doubt I'll ever see it on Blu-ray so at some point I'm going to have to devote some CPU cycles to upscaling my DVD collection to 720p or 1080p a necessary compromise for todays tvs.

Elmofongo: So from the Screenshots I see JJ Abrams, Stan Lee, Rob Zombie, and Seth Macfarlane.

Who are the other 2?

(The Woman and the other guy?
I'm not sure about the other guy, but I would guess that the woman is Majel Barrett, Gene's (second) wife. She played a nurse in TOS, was the voice of the computer (in pretty much all incarnations of Trek), and was Troi's mother in TNG.

If you are just starting Season 3, you are in for a treat with that one. This time instead of going for more stand-alone episodes there is just one long story-arc which I thought was very well-done. Season 4 sort of went back to the mini-standalones (more two-part-er episodes) but still well done and at the same time addressed many of the "How did X come to pass/be" questions that may pop up for elements shown in TOS, TNG, and DS9 (cannot comment on Voyager-see below).

That is exactly what I did - I watched them in order of the chronology via Netflix, starting with Enterprise, then TOS, then TNG, and finally DS9. That is why only Voyager remains. As for the new ones, that is how I am treating them: a parallel universe version that pays homage to the original chronology, actors, and characters.

When it comes to Sci-Fi TV shows I cut my teeth on B5 and own all 5 seasons, the made-for-TV movie collection, and what was made of the first season of Crusade. Only ones missing are the Legend of the Rangers pilot and the collection of mini-movies (actually, I think Legend of the Rangers may be included in that compilation). But yes, I liked B5 more because I felt it focused more on the diplomatic side of things and not always just from the perspective of a voyaging captain.

I feel that there is plenty of room for spin-offs in that universe, and would not mind if either the Legend of the Rangers or Crusade got a re-boot. There just needs to be visibility, engaging writing, and decent funding. The visuals of even the early B5 CGI still hold up well today.

But I digress. Not sure when I will get to watching Voyager though-I try to watch all of a show when I get to it, and I had a few others in my queue ahead of it. We'll see. I am starting to get an itch for a Sci-Fi show and it will come down to Voyager, Falling Skies, and I think one or two others I cannot remember off-hand.

Quick side rant: really really wish Netflix would get Gene Roddenbery's Andromeda... I bought a collection of the first 5 episodes, liked the lay-up and setting, but the way the DVDs were packaged and sold was and still is way to pricey for me.

Yes I was quite the fan of the B5 universe. I have all the shows on DVD, Crusade s1 and all the movies too. I can't speak to the US release, but the Australian movie box set had
- The Gathering (Series Pilot)
- In The Beginning (B5 Prequel)
- Thirdspace
- The River Of Souls
- A Call To Arms (this was a lead in to Crusade)

Legend of the Rangers I own but was a separate purchase for me, but as mine is a different region for the DVDs it might have been done differently for US distribution. I even have a bunch of Christopher Franke soundtrack CDs from the series, got them from a sci-fi shop they released quite a few of them. Mostly synth music. They even had a licensed but pretty average Babylon 5 game which from memory was pretty much an arcade ship shooter like space invaders (I think though I'm hazy on that now) but with shadow ships etc

That packaging is exactly how the movie set is for me. I know Rangers was separate, but I recorded it on VHS back when it first premiered (and I think I still have it around somewhere). Still will eventually get it on DVD, as well as that little 3-mini-episode pack (just looked it up--it is called "The Lost Tales=Voices in the Dark", and it does not include Rangers).

As for games, there is a mod out for Freespace 2 (sold here on GOG) that attempts to use the Freespace 2 gameplay but in the B5 universe. It has long ceased and will not be finished but from what I could find there is still plenty of immersion to be had (along with the inevitable "oh-if-only-this-was-completed-and-realized-its-potential" pang).
Anybody watched Gene Roddenbery's Andromeda with Kevin Sorbo?

Matruchus: Anybody watched Gene Roddenbery's Andromeda with Kevin Sorbo?
I only saw the first 5 episodes. Picked up the DVD compilation, watched them, and enjoyed the premise and all else presented. Unfortunately the way the series was packaged (seemed to break the season down into multiple smaller purchases on a level worse than the re-booted BattleStar Galactica) and the accompanying price made owning them too expensive for me. Sadly, Netflix has yet to get them so I have only seen just those episodes and one from television afterwards that had Stargate's Christopher Judge.

PixelBoy: Wow, you are improving, GOG.

Of course this still counts as an indie documentary, so no dramatic change there, but at least you are slowly moving towards more interesting releases.

I don't think I have seen this one yet, so I might actually buy this (can only recall owning Trekkies and Trekkies 2, but if I own other Star Trek documentaries, my memory fails me...).

Let's see:

All three seasons of TOS: 300 points
TAS: 75 points
TNG BD Sampler (and went to see Best of Both Worlds in theatres): easily 26 points

All 12 Trek movies (some reinforcing number)

Trekkie it is.

So this thread got derailed pretty thoroughly :)

I don't remember exactly when I saw this film (I'm guessing it was on at the local film festival, during which I tend to see more things than I can properly remember), but I do remember enjoying it.

I'm pretty sure any dedicated Star Trek fan would enjoy it just because of the subject.

I'm not in the "dedicated fan" camp (I often watched the original re-runs and the Next Generation when growing up, but not religiously, and I never got into the other spin-offs), and I found the documentary really interesting.

You get to follow Eugene as he finds out more about the shows, his father, and the fans; and it was a learning experience for both of us.

If you have any interest in the show, this is definitely worth a look.

I'd forgotten about The Lost Tales, just checked my DVD shelf and I have it there sort of hidden out of sight, so I guess I have the lot. I don't think that VHS of the Rangers would be looking so good now if you have a large 1080p tv.

Hmm I'll take a look for that Mod as I do have freespace 2 from GOG. Thanks for that.

What, only 1 point for Voyager? Man, this was one of the best Star Trek series! 50 points for DS9? For this little Babylon 5 clone? Man, you`re trying to bullshit us, don`t you?
