It’s time to brew coffee and stretch your fingers – after a few years of absence, the Insomnia Promo event is back on GOG! With it arrive the best deals and the exciting anticipation that will drive away your sleep, while also giving loads of fun!

This Summer Sale on GOG is already full of deep discounts, yet we saved the most delicious treats, especially for the Insomnia Promo. How does it work? Starting now, once every 6 hours a new great game will appear here, bearing an insanely deep discount. Right now, you can already see the first title – the best-selling strategy game Frostpunk 85% off!

What’s the catch? Every game appearing during the event will only have 6 hours to catch your attention. After the time runs out, a new game will appear, while the former one will get back on our Summer Sale with the initial, lower discount. The other factor you have to be aware of is the limited stock of Insomnia deals!

So, be on the lookout, because cool titles like Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Don't Dry and Solasta: Crown of the Magister Supporter Edition are bound to appear at the Insomnia Promo event at some time (when? We’ll just have to wait and see ;)). So, take that caffeine shot and be on the lookout for great discounted games!

schwartzag: What are the reasons that people keep mentioning that they don't want to play the games using Galaxy? I don't really know much about Galaxy and how it works or what the problems are with it.
I recently installed it just out of curiosity. So far I am having a hard time seeing the point of it. I'm probably going to uninstall it. It seems like it's a third rate attempt to emulate Steam. There are achievements, but from what I can tell, there is only a very small percentage of games on GOG that have achievements.

It provides a way to organize your library and sort your games, and offers configuration options. It shows milestones of your activity such as playing for the first time, played for five hours, played for 10 hours, etc. However, it doesn't even show when you completed a game. It keeps track of your playing time. Unlike Steam, if you uninstall Galaxy it starts your stats and milestones all over again. Some of the things it does you already have by way of your profile without using Galaxy.

In my brief time using it, I have not seen it cause problems with games. Although based on other people's experiences, it does seem to have a problem with cloud saves. When you consider that GOG can't even get the main web page and forums to work properly, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I don't think it would be much of a risk just for you to try it out and see for yourself what you think. I'm sure others can add more insight since my history with it so far has been quite short.

There are various reasons, but for me in short, Galaxy is bloatware, and I certainly don't want it running in the background while I am playing a game.

And if they have gotten around the save issue with cloud saving, then that also requires you be connected to the web, something else, another overhead I don't want. And really the whole point of GOG and Offline Installers in particular, is no need for other dependencies ... that's what DRM-Free means.

Play a GOG bought game, and it works perfectly without a web connection or some third party program ... that's the ideal most of us GOG customers are paying for and why we buy games at GOG, else we'd use something like Steam, who do such things better than GOG.

Seems King of Seas does have a save issue after all :(

I played for a while, and the game says that you save in ports, so I entered a port and could save. I quit to the menu and clicked continue and was returned to my last save.

However when I exited the game completely and then started it again, my save was gone and the only option was to start all over again.

I tried again and the same thing happened: the saving worked as long as I didn't quit the game. Quitting the game deletes the save.

The offline installer is v1.20, no idea if the Galaxy version is the same.

Thank you for checking :)
Six hours have passed, King of Seas is gone, but nothing came in its place. Could be a bug, could be a feature. Anyhow, for now the somnia sale is either done (until the rewind) or on hold (until the bug is fixed).
Is the Insomnia Promo done (other than the Rewind)?

Since the somnia sale might be over, I thought I'd compare its discounts to those of the current steam summer sale, to see if the somnia discounts were indeed significantly better than the competition's regular discounts.

TLDR: Yes, they were generally better, with the glaring exception of one company (Kalypso).

Here are my comments and impressions.

- Hopefully I didn't make too many mistakes --- I apologise if I did
- I compared discounts, not prices, because the GOG prices listed by helpo1 are the EU regional ones, whereas the steam prices I see are the US non-regional ones (nevertheless, I believe that's not much of an issue, as for the vast majority of the games, the base price is the same on GOG and steam)
- More than half the games got good discounts, which is nice
- Four games got what could be called "insane" discounts, which is also nice
- Five games got regular discounts, which is ok I guess
- Five games got fairly bad discounts, which is not so nice
- Of the five games that got worse discounts on GOG, four are from Kalypso Media Digital. Make your own decisions about that --- I went ahead and removed all Kalypso games from my wishlist. Unfortunately, there were none.

Based on API request which GOG's homepage makes, insomnia is now inactive, but will resume on Saturday, 25 June 2022 10:00:00 GMT and the next deal will most likely still be a Corpse Party, judging by tags in response data.

Thank you mr kgnao for the detailed comparisons, you did good! Speaking of the devil, maybe dudes at Kalypso interpreted the meaning of "insane deals" the other way around. Like... "you would be insane to buy this" or that sort of things. Who knows what they were thinking.

Still I would have expected a bit more of the 'much better' flash deals (by 15-25% or so).

Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to do all that.

---------------------------------------------------

Personally I don't see the point of adding a game to an Insomnia promo sale, unless you are going to give a great discount ... or maybe it is the only time that game has been discounted at all.

Anyway, as much as we can blame a dev/pub for a lousy discount it is GOG that includes them.

Perhaps GOG wanted it to be 50 games, and so some were just added as filler to reach that ... though at this point the promo list only made it to 47 games, and may go no further unless it was a bug ... or maybe they are saving the three others for a Rewind bonus.

And I see mrkgnao is back at his finest. :) Thank you (and sorry about the regional EU prices, the API is unfortunately fairly limited).

Insomnia deals so far + predicted upcoming (2022-06-25 04:00 UTC):
TypeError: 'NoneType' object is not subscriptable
:P

Interestingly enough, while there's no game currently on promo (insomniaIsActive = false), the API still seems to indicate that Corpse Party (2021) should be getting an offer (upcomingInsomniaExists = true) starting at 1656151200 (Unix epoch) = in two hours. May be a bug / business decision, may be not.

joppo: Sorry, but there are no discounts on Syberia because not a single game from Microids is in the sale.
Thanks, pity though:)

And it is apparently back, but while seemingly upcomingInsomniaExists = true, there is no additional info except for the starting time.
