It’s time to brew coffee and stretch your fingers – after a few years of absence, the Insomnia Promo event is back on GOG! With it arrive the best deals and the exciting anticipation that will drive away your sleep, while also giving loads of fun!

This Summer Sale on GOG is already full of deep discounts, yet we saved the most delicious treats, especially for the Insomnia Promo. How does it work? Starting now, once every 6 hours a new great game will appear here, bearing an insanely deep discount. Right now, you can already see the first title – the best-selling strategy game Frostpunk 85% off!

What’s the catch? Every game appearing during the event will only have 6 hours to catch your attention. After the time runs out, a new game will appear, while the former one will get back on our Summer Sale with the initial, lower discount. The other factor you have to be aware of is the limited stock of Insomnia deals!

So, be on the lookout, because cool titles like Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Don't Dry and Solasta: Crown of the Magister Supporter Edition are bound to appear at the Insomnia Promo event at some time (when? We’ll just have to wait and see ;)). So, take that caffeine shot and be on the lookout for great discounted games!

I've noticed that from the 23 games (including the upcoming one), the 10-12 of them are strategies and/or managerial!
I'd prefer if more RPGs and actions could find their way to the Insomnia deals too.
Yes, most offers are good for those already interested in the games (though often not great), bought 2 games myself. But naming it "insomnia" and promising "insanely deep discounts" raises expectations and did no good, because it is neither. And having that much too high number of available items/deal doesn't help either. In the end we got flash deals and that is not bad either, it's just not more than that.

...nor for anything published by Activision. =P

There really is no insomnia aspect this time, as no game has sold all it's copies and the timer had to run out every single time. So you can always safely gauge when to come back to this site and check out the next offer. That is not what the initial insomnia sale was like.

15 quid for base game only?
GTFO of here Tropico 6 with your BS pricing...
When you have a complete edition for 20 quid then you can have my money :)
Upvote if you think that price is dumb for an INSOMNIA sale and only for the base game...

Maybe it's not always exclusively GOG's "unwillingness" for not selling at steeper discounts, but also the games' publishers, who may not want their games to be sold cheaper.

Next game is one published by them... so c'mon Activision, blow my socks off with uh... maybe 65%-off if we are feeling lucky today?!

Of course it's publishers setting the discounts and gog providing some guidelines and recommendations based on data available to them (wishlist entries, search matches, store page visits for individual game, comparisons with units sold in previous/similar sales, etc.). Some publishers are notorious for low discounts and high base prices, e.g. one mentioned above.

It's always the publisher who decides what the sale price and discount will be --- as well as whether to participate in this somnia sale or not --- never the store.

I honestly didn't know. So why is everyone mad at GOG?!!! I don't get it.

I don't know if everyone is mad --- I certainly am not --- but if some are, one reason could be that it was GOG who decided to try to fool its customers by calling this boring flash sale an "insomnia sale" (a name that has a long-standing nostalgic history).

My guess is Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom will be 65% off like King's Quest was, so ~$2.10

CarChris:
GOG gets to decide what games to feature in particular promotions based on what discounts the publishers are willing to allow. They also choose the wording used to describe the sale. They can also subsidize the price as a site promotion if the publisher agrees (and they think it would be worth it for them, of course), as I'm guessing is partly the case with the giveaways. I guess "we made a last minute attempt to try this again, hope you like it" isn't what marketing people usually go for but might have been a better description.

As someone with actual insmonia (and other sleep disorders), I appreciate that they aren't actually promoting insomnia (sure most people can do ok with occasional sleep deprevation but if it isn't occasional to begin with everything that causes sleep deprivation could potentially push someone into a sleep disorder). Most people wouldn't check that often anyway even back in the day so there is less frustration of missing the deal you wanted with longer times. Since a number of people have been asking for an insomnia sale again it feels like a nice gesture to me even if not perfect. Hopefully if they do it again they will have more time to plan and at least make sure no deal is worse than the GOG historical low.

I noticed that GOG took a non-trivial write off at the end of last year for not meeting guaranteed minimum sales. In some cases the less good deals may just be trying to promote games when they have less than ideal contracts to sell a certain number of games.

I wouldn't mind if they kept that presentation style around as a featured "game of the day" thing with a 24 hour timer after the sale. It is nice to see some screenshots on the home page and not just box art. If anyone from GOG is reading there is a slight overflow issue when a larger minimum font is set, see attached image. The whole site looks so much nicer with larger fonts, though.

Because GOG is running a bait & switch type of shenanigan by deliberately calling it "Insomnia," even though GOG knows full-well ahead of time that these sales are not actually what "Insomnia" implies.

GOG is leeching off of the clout & prestige & goodwill of what GOG customers understood the term "Insomnia sale" to mean, whilst totally failing to deliver on the connotations the are implied by GOG's choice to use that word.

Therefore, GOG is indeed fully blameworthy for this.

If GOG isn't able to offer real Insomnia sales any more because the publishers won't give them great discounts, then GOG ought not to be calling it an "Insomnia" sale. Rather, GOG should call it what it is, a normal sale, or a flash deal sale with a typical usual standard amount of discount, or something to that effect.

GOG is deliberately mislabeling the sale in a dishonest way by calling it "Insomnia," and therefore GOG absolutely should be called out & criticized for that.
