omega64: Contact support, they can change it.
Might ask you to verify some stuff.

gogtrial34987: They are known to change usernames? Cool! (My experience with forums is that when they don't provide the ability to do so through software, they also don't do it manually.)

I'll have to think of something appropriate to change it to... (And of course I'll wait out the sale so as to not flood them during this busy time.)
Just be aware that if you change it, it will break the link to your public wishlist (maybe other stuff like Chat, too, but I'm not sure about that). (Someone can still use your current "gogtrial" name in the URL to get to it...but only if they know what your name was before the change.)

Wouldn't my wishlist just carry over to my new username, so be available under that new username? Or is the username change only done for the forum, but not for the rest of the site? (If so, that's definitely a bothersome limitation...)

If I'm not terribly mistaken, only if the new username contains special characters, like underscores.

Your account as a whole will bear the new name. It's a known bug that changed usernames that contain special characters cause some of the functions and pages tied to your account to be inaccessible to others after the change. User TT_TT_TT_TT is a prime example - try to open their wishlist or start a conversation with them.

Just keep in mind that GOG will ask you to verify that it's indeed your account before proceeding with the name-change, which, IIRC. is providing proof of a purchase made with the account.

I'd say, "Ah, okay, that makes sense", but it really doesn't. :P

How could it? This is GOG we're talking about, after all. ;-)

Polly77: Welcome Jim.

I hope you enjoy being part of the GOG community.

I'm almost 56 and have been a gamer since 1997. The first game I played was Septerra Core. It had me hooked. I played it 3 times through and just loved the experience.

What was the first game you played?
Hello Polly,

I'm not really sure what my first game was, but it may have been The 7th Guest (the CD ROM of which I still have).

Jim, great to have you!... You've come at the very best time to GOG.com. They have a good stream of quality games which can scratch any itch you may have. from zombie survival, to turnbased insanity, point and click adventures, or my persoinal favorite 2.5d FPS shooters ^_^

If you notice your collection is running big (or you are a horder like me) I recommend a look into gogrepo.py its an auto archiving, back-up, clean-up, sort and categorizing tool to maintain your collection written in Python.

There is a long running forum post on it with the dev that responds decently, but most issues have been resolved inside the thread itself enjoy!

gogtrial34987: I did set it up just for the hell of it back in 2013, yeah. And then over the years had my collection slowly grow (not a lot, mind you - I've never been very active, but did keep coming back), and since I somehow never looked into the forum, my username was pretty much irrelevant. And now of course I don't want to abandon my collection and start over, but changing my username doesn't seem doable :/ so I figure I'll just have to wear it proudly. :) (But any pointers for how to change it anyway most welcome.)
You can contact support to request your username be changed BTW and they'll do it for you.

Also, for anyone who got a period and 3 random numbers appended to their name randomly a few years ago, you can request that get removed also as it was a programming mistake that they didn't intend, but must be requested manually to fix. ie: skeletonbow.438

Hopefully some day they make the process something we can do ourselves, perhaps limiting name changes to once every 6-12 months or so to prevent abuse or something, and keeping at least an internal record of nickname changes over time.

No, I was using search for something and just happened to stumble upon his post and he indicated he wanted to change his username but didn't think it was possible. Since it still hadn't changed I thought he'd appreciate knowing the info.

Thanks. :) Someone else up above *waves vaguely* mentioned the same. I was intending to indeed go that route, but slow with it due to not really being able to come up with a username I liked, and the more I kept posting, the more humorous it started to seem to me to become a regular and active member here with this obvious throwaway username. So for the moment that's my plan, though I reserve the right to change my mind again. ^_^

As gogtrial alluded to, the info was [url=https://www.gog.com/forum/general/hello_i_just_joined/post140]mentioned. One post after the one you replied to, in fact. Helpfulness is cool and all, but redundant helpfulness in a dead topic is...well, redundant.

I thought he was here to revive the Official Jim Fanclub.
Kind of a shame we haven't seen enough Jim around recently.
Good afternoon,

I decided to buy some of the games on my wishlist.

Between working, reading, and preparing for my wedding in four weeks, I haven't been around much. Sorry about that.

Bookmusicfan5472: preparing for my wedding in four weeks
Congratulations. I guess that means between preparing for the wedding, having the wedding, and the honeymoon you won't have much time or energy ;) for gaming.
