Momo1991: Frankly I am getting kind of sick of trying to make this forum a better place when all anyone can do is complain when someone tries to help
It makes me sad to see you angry/frustrated. :(
Momo1991: let's just make this a FU thread to the original creator of "classifieds" that is exactly the same shit, different day...
I don't think this thread was meant as a FU thread, though I can see that it might come across as such, given that it was the disappointment over his actions that eventually triggered this thread to be created.
But what this general trading thread is, to me, is _finally_ a thread where the concerns about scammers are being taken serious and where useful precaution methods are advocated. That's what I hoped to see in the original classifieds thread for _months_, but it never came to pass.
When Wakalo surfaced the first time with his scams, and people found no better solution than creating a "known scammers" thread (as if Wakalo couldn't easily create an army of alts), I was among the first who said that creating a list of shame won't help, we have to educate people how they can trade safely. I even made suggestions. None of them ever found their way into the "Classifieds" OP.
When he surfaced again under a different name, and the "Classifieds" thread starter didn't have a better idea than creating another "known scammers" thread, I again stated that this won't help and that we need to educate people how they can trade safely with some very simple guidelines. I again made suggestions. None of the ever found their way into the "Classifieds" OP. Instead the thread starter decided to leave this forum for the umpteenth time.
Now he's back, starts a new thread, and advocates cumbersome, high-maintenance rules to combat scamming, while still not posting a couple of very simple guidelines that would actually help to prevent 90% of scams.
I don't know what's the problem. I don't know what he's thinking because he practically never explains himself. But I do know that we're having something here who, in less than 30 minutes, created a thread with the simple, efficient trade guidelines that I waited for months to appear in the original thread, and I'm simply happy about that. If it had happened earlier, then we would have had less scams in the past months.
Is it the "ideal" trading thread? Probably not. I doubt one can exist. But regardless of which individual rules or behavior I might not be totally happy with, the fact that we finally have a trade thread that advocates usable and effective precaution methods outweighs that, massively. :)
Aw, now I wrote probably five times as much as I wanted to. Sorry. :(
