bad compatibility

Posted on 2012-09-11 10:22:11 byJonathan.329's avatarJonathan.329:

Well, Worms 2 is a great game. It is actually my favourite game in the whole series. And I was very happy to see it on, because I recently tried my CD-Version of it, and it had big compatibility issues.
I must say, I was a bit shocked, that the gog version also has some of the compatibility issues. That they removed the Online part didn't bother me, because I always playedread more on just one PC. But of course this is a bad thing.
The biggest problem is, that the backgroundmusic does not work. There is a menu in which you can choose, which tracks should be played, but they are not. Instead there is now music in the main menu, but only there, and each time you select something, the music stops (and continous as soon as you go back to the main menu). This is worse than no music!
And, there are some more problems. Some colours of backgroundobjects are wrong, and also the shoot power indicator has totally wrong colours. Alt+Tab doesn't work, if you return to the game, all colours are totally messed up. And sometimes the game freezes after a match. Oh, and another little Detail: The funny videos are out of sync, as the audio is faster than the video, regardless if they are played ingame or in VLC Media Player. What a shame.
Well, 6$ might not be expensive. But I just bought a game a second time in order to play it on my new PC and it does not work correctly. It might be playable, but if I spend money solely for a compatibility patch (as I already own the original game) than it should fix all problems.
It is very sad that now I can't even trust gog and have to read comments and forum topics to be sure that the game I might buy is really compatible with Win 7. The team should have worked harder to fix everything, this way I will definitely rethink my next buy on

Absolute Gold

The early Worms games are a true PC gaming treasure. Some came to consoles, but they never felt right anywhere but a good old PC. While Worms 1 showed Team 17 had strong gameplay mechanics and a great idea going for them, Worms 2 laid the foundation for their core games (Armageddon and World Party). Enjoy both the humor and the tactics of this turn-based yet real-time strategy game.

Prelude to Worms Armageddon

Posted on 2012-09-06 10:03:53 bysampov's avatarsampov:

Worms 2 is a great game in itself but it has since been dethroned by the semi-sequels Armageddon and World Party.
I'd give Worms 2 a lot better rating if I didn't know about the absolutely king-of-a-game entries that were to follow this game. Worms 2 has less weapons, no utilities (low gravity etc), worse single player campaigns, worse graphics in the form of low resolution ofread more 640x480, less space for modification of game rules and generally, undeniably, mindblowingly, less freedom for customization than Armageddon or WP.
I am quite certain that GOG will later add the best in series (in my opinion), Worms Armageddon, to its catalogue. Armageddon combined with the magnificent community patch will make Worms 2 utterly obsolete. Unless you are a die hard Worms fan and can't wait a second longer to blow some worms from here to eternity, just wait for the next games in the series.
