Haven't played it, but I read a series of reviews (such as this one) that all said pretty much the same thing: "Iffy translation, hideous graphics, slow plodding gameplay, awkward combat... and you need to play it because it's amazing and there's nothing else like it."
I picked it up on that basis; I have a soft spot for weird "ugly duckling" games that are trying something a little more ambitious, even if they don't entirely succeed. Now if only GOG would get around to releasing those extra few hours in the day, I might even get to play it.

If you can relate to the playstyle and story the technical issues become unimportant. I guess there are many people who will hate it. I always compare it to Lars von Trier movies. For me it's so intense it physically hurts, while others just complain about 'bad' actors and the lack of explosions.
