Trailer

Of course, it's a CGI trailer, so we have no idea when it's coming out or how it will play, and we all know how much Square Enix likes to announce games, not so much release them. Let us never forget that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced 9 years ago, and since then we got a name change, two demos and still no release date.

Personally I always thought 7 was merely okay, but I'm more interested in seeing what they plan to do with it, and what people want from it.

Do you want the exact same game just with updated visuals? In that case is there really a point in remaking it? On the other hand, I can imagine how angry a lot of people will be if you mess with it in any way. How should they go about it with this remake?

But no need to hurry in answering it. You probably have at least 5 years until release to come up with an answer.

Final Fantasy 7: The HD re-release: The Remake, now with 200% more anime bullshit.
Considering how long SquareEnix takes to make their jrpgs.... yeah, 2018 or 2019 you will see the release of Final Fantasy.... 15, this remake will still have to wait! :p
So that's the third thing Square Enix is working on (alongside FFXV and Kingdom Hearts 3) that possibly won't ever see the light of day. Who the fuck asked for this?

Fanboys with nostalgia goggles, same folks asking for stuff like Crash Bandicoot, Parappa the Rappet, etc. What confuses me is the the FF7 pc port announced at Ps Experience and now a cgi for a remake...

Tinfoil hat time.

Something went wrong and they couldn't show the cgi trailer for the remake so they presented the pc version instead. But yeah, i don't think this will be released anytime soon (if ever), this was just to creat buzz in the Sony conference.
I don't trust Squenix to remake FF7. The company has changed too much over the years.

I would gladly buy a restored version of FF7 however. One with higher resolution backgrounds created from the original assets. Maybe higher resolution versions of the original video too.

The game was a product of its time. It should be touched as little as possible, IMHO.
Ah, the most overhyped of the Final Fantasies. Tried to give it a go, but its polygonal graphics and tinny scenes had aged so poorly. I suppose you had to be there for it.

Now, if they were remaking 9...
Bring on the hate!

There's much I could say about my fears on how much they'll change or how, as much as I loved the original, I don't have a great desire (or time) to play it again, specially with Square DRM stance. So, I'll just say this: "[we] will only consider this once a brand new game in the franchise exceeds the quality of that found in FF7." When did that happen?

EDIT: How about a fun game: let's see where they hamfist online multiplayer stuff to "improve the player experience". I'm betting on Gold saucer having online leaderboards, at the very least.

I guess Squeenix is in real financial trouble.. I'm sure they've been holding onto this project like a "get out of Bankruptcy free" card.

Looking forward to see how this turns out!

Not according to their 2014/2015 financial statements. They had a year-on-year increase in net profit from the 2013/2014 to the 2014/2015 financial years. My initial thought too was that they were experiencing financial difficulties, but it seems to me that they're simply refocusing on their Japanese properties and deprioritising PC (hence the massive markdowns earlier in the year).

Nostalgia alert! Seriously, the only reason this game is of any interesting is because it was so different at the time. Now it is just an overly long, very boring rpg.

I absolutely agree with this.
I'd also like, however, an option\button to skip all the repeating cutscenes and the useless low-level encounters in all FF games.

like Doom was different at the time, but now is a very boring FPS?

It wasn't. It wasn't different at all. It had prettier graphics, but that's about it. What on earth are you talking about? I don't like jRPGs, but even I can see that Final Fantasy firmly stands on its writing and progression, which doesn't really age.
