For once I can legitimally say, fuck the haters, I am excited!
I stopped at, 'of course it's a CGI trailer.'
I am so fucking sick of remakes.

And I'm absolutely certain that Square-Enix will completely botch this. They've completely forgotten what made their old games so appealing and every attempt to capture that spirit failed miserably.
I'm sure they will infuse this remake with their typical hackneyed bullshit: Excessive, overbearing visuals and fanfiction-level emo misinterpretations of the original characters, like they did with Advent Children.

DaCostaBR: Trailer

Of course, it's a CGI trailer, so we have no idea when it's coming out or how it will play, and we all know how much Square Enix likes to announce games, not so much release them. Let us never forget that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced 9 years ago, and since then we got a name change, two demos and still no release date.

Personally I always thought 7 was merely okay, but I'm more interested in seeing what they plan to do with it, and what people want from it.

Do you want the exact same game just with updated visuals? In that case is there really a point in remaking it? On the other hand, I can imagine how angry a lot of people will be if you mess with it in any way. How should they go about it with this remake?

But no need to hurry in answering it. You probably have at least 5 years until release to come up with an answer.
I always thought a remake of FF7 is odd.

Is it gonna be a faithful remake? Am I gonna fight those "Weapons" Superbosses?

Am I gonna do that chocobo mini game?

Is it gonna play like Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy XV?

How are certain sequences gonna work? Are they gonna keep that part where Cloud and the gang actually had to run 30+ stairs in the tower?

Remaking FF7 is gonna be like Remaking X-Com into a shooter.

Breja: I don't much [random encounter] like JRPGs, but I gave [random encounter] Final Fantasy VII a shot, just to see [random encounter] what all the fuss was about. It was fine [random encounter] but after playing for what seemed like eternity [random encounter] I got really tired and rather bored of it [random encounter] for some reason, and I didn't even get to Aeris' death [random encounter]. So no, not even if I had PS 4 would I be interested.
Than Final Fantasy XII is your game because no random encounters.

P1na: FF7 did things "just right" within the jRPG genre
Really? Weren't the battles super boring? I got through 90% of the game just mashing confirm to use the basic attack, because that's all you need to win, like with every game with an active-time battle system.

Darvond: Ah, the most overhyped of the Final Fantasies. Tried to give it a go, but its polygonal graphics and tinny scenes had aged so poorly. I suppose you had to be there for it.

ET3D: So you're basically saying that it's a good thing they're remaking it.
No, I was saying it had aged terribly, not that I was leaping for joy at the idea of a remake.

ReynardFox: I guess Squeenix is in real financial trouble.. I'm sure they've been holding onto this project like a "get out of Bankruptcy free" card.
Except that how long the card is good for isn't for much longer. Last year i put a post up on reddit regarding their remakes and putting the PC version on the PS4, and i said they had 5 years left before their fanbase would abandon them entirely, and even if they brought out the promised wanted begged for needed game after that point, it would simply be too late. It might be too late already, honestly.

I highly doubt any of the FF-13 games have exceeded the success of 12, so i don't know why they are teasing us. Besides the trailer showed NOTHING...

As for how much work there would be, not sure. Most of the models and weapons were already made in HD back when they made the FF7 movie Advent Children, so they wouldn't have THAT much work... would they? Hmmm... Well, not nearly as much as they would if they were working from scratch anyways.

Unfortunately i've already decided i'm not getting a PS4. It's just too late for me, and there aren't enough must-have games for me to consider getting it, although FF7 would be one of them... If/when it comes out.

i thought FF7 IS EMO SHIT?

i kinda want a FF9 remake though.
or a blashempous FF6 remade in real 3D, instead of the pointless CG cutscenes and anti-aliased sprites we got.

I just prefer cleaner sprites like the PSP versions of FF 1, 4, and the iOS version of 6.

I enjoyed 12, although perhaps didn't love it. But i loved the simple system for customizing your characters AI's so they actually acted intelligently (most of the time).

I also was referring to SquareEnix's own public statement and requirement that a newer game would have to exceed FF12's sales before they redid FF7.

I'd rather have new FF, on PC, with game systems similar to FF I-VII, IX-XII (omitting FF VIII because it had horrible gameplay). It isn't because I hate FF VII, I like it, but we had little Final Fantasy love after release of FF XII.

i'd also settle for SNES/PS1 quality of graphics if gameplay is there :)

You're not a fan, because you haven't played it, but your point is well taken: some gamers want a graphical update for the game to even consider playing it.
