toxicTom: The original German on-disk release had a little in-game concert of In Extremo, which was one of the Wow!-moments for me back in the day.

Unfortunately the international and digital (even the German) releases lack the concert - for licensing reasons. There's a little patch that re-enables the band playing in those releases. I have it somewhere at home, if you want it, otherwise Google is your friend.

Problem with the patch is that it makes all texts in the game English (which probably doesn't concern you).

Also there are a couple of fixes/hacks/mods that allow for higher resolutions and view distance. Not really necessary, I use them since I've already completed the game (twice) and just wanted to look what is possible.
Was it removed due to the music? I wonder why they just didn't change the music to something else?

I don't really mind the textures. I have no problem with older graphics on an older game. Newer games with lazy "retro" graphics on the other hand I am not a fan of. Some are good, most are just lazy developers. And I have nothing to compare the view distance with so I am okay with it as it is. There was one setting I was unsure off, but I can't remember what it was now. I will have to have a look next time I boot up Window.

Eeer... I bought a wood "fishing" puzzle for the owlets... it's funny, the pieces have little magnets in the middle, so you can catch them with a fishing rod. Other than that, nothing... we bought food :D

Not just the music, there's a stage with the band (well, in the style of the Gothic NPCs) actually playing. So they couldn't just change the music.

As for the writing... so far it is like an instruction manual for being a boring assh*le... It is terrible!! :-p ... I'm having some fun though, and that was my main point for giving it a try.

I do not think I will be up to playing Gothic too much at the moment, but I will try to play a bit now and then. The controls were/are a little hard to get used to, but that is often the case with older games.

We are a little over 400 posts away from 64k, this forum software isn't very feature filled but if it can do that it certainly is fairly robust. :-)

The original publisher was JoWood, and those people weren't very competent in many ways. They failed to secure distribution rights for the music for all but Germany and for digital distribution. I don't think the band is to blame. If asked nicely they would probably allow the continued use of the concert scene, but then there's the label (Universal Music?) and those people also have a say.

Writing is a funny and great hobby, it gets your mind off things pretty efficiently ; what you write doesn't need to be interesting, unless you want to be rich and famous from your writings :)
Yes, the owlets love the fishing puzzle... the little one almost flip everything because she didn't manage to catch fishes (\o/ lol... Angry Viking Owlet mode !!!)... but after we showed her how to do it properly she had tons of fun :)
