Description

Following the critically acclaimed 2014 Game of the Year winner Wasteland 2, the RPG series that pioneered the post-apocalyptic genre in video games returns with Wasteland 3.

In Wasteland 3 you take command of a squad of Desert Rangers, lawmen and women in a post-nuclear world, trying to rebuild society from the ashes. More than a century after the bombs fell, you’re fighting a losing battle to keep your beloved Arizona alive. Then the self-proclaimed Patriarch of Colorado radios, promising aid if you'll do a job he can only entrust to an outsider—rescue his land from the ambitions of his three bloodthirsty children.

You’re dispatched on a desperate quest from the scorching deserts to the snowy mountains to start from scratch, building a new base, finding a snow-worthy vehicle, training new recruits, and fighting your way through hostile frozen wastes. All the while, you'll have to decide who to trust in this land torn apart by corruption, intrigue, warring factions, crazed cultists, cutthroat gangs, and bitter sibling rivalries. Build a reputation for yourself by making decisions that will profoundly impact Colorado, its inhabitants and the story you experience. Will you be Colorado’s savior or its worst nightmare?

Wasteland 3 is a squad-based RPG from inXile entertainment, featuring challenging tactical turn-based combat and a deep, reactive story full of twists, turns, and brutal ethical decisions that will keep you hooked whether you’re a Wasteland veteran or new to the series. Create a squad of up to six Rangers and customize them with perks and abilities geared to your playstyle. You even get your own battle truck, which you can upgrade into a hardened war beast, bristling with weapons, to help mow down your enemies.

buggy as hell

bought the game, played for 10 hours on my own, then talked a friend into buying it to play in coop we kept on running into bugs every few minutes: loading screen freezes, quest progress resets, visual glitches, character progression buggy (you have to unequip items that give bonuses to skills, otherwise you would have to "pay" more for learning skills, since that bonus countes as actual skill point), in world map if you go to a shop and click where radio is supposed to be, but isnt showing - it kicks you out of menu, shop disappears and so on the game, when you bypass all of the bugs, is really fun and i am hoping to be able to properly play it at some point in VERY distant future, but for now - DO NOT BUY!!!

Wasteland 3 needs more work

My partners is a backer and I played on his version (gog). Ran fine on my system (Windows 10.0.19041 Build 19041, AMD Ryzen 7 3700x, 64GB RAM, Radeon RX 5700 XT (8 GB VRAM) but the load times are horrible. Mind you the game was running from a XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro SSD. Tested it on a TOSHIBA HDWF180 7200 UPS HDD as well, exact same loading times. The german translation is, in one word BAD. The game itself ran without any crash on my 50 hour play through. It did feel a little lie a wasteland lite but the shared inventory is a good thing. The UI is very consoley and needs work. Graphics look dated and would even have look dated 5 years ago. I expect DLC to come out for this game at some point and would advise anyone to wait and get it in a complete pack or a DC pack. It's fine for 20 bucks but I wouldn't pay more.

Patch 1.1.2 absolutely nails it down !

There is a lot of Information about the _game_, which is gorgeous (best isometric party rpg since Baldurs Gate 2 in my opinion, no joke!) (best post-apocalyptic game ever cross genre) (oh - and much better in _every_ category than its clunky, not so-much-love-during-development predecessor Wasteland2) so i want to give it 5 stars here _since_ PATCH 1.1.2 which released recently. This patch makes the game feel MUCH MORE reactive (scrolling through menus now takes <100ms which feels good; it was about 200ms+ before the patch and 500ms in Wasteland 2). The loading times are OK now; it is not "very good" but it is not a desaster than before the patch. You still feel that is is the unity engine ->if you know where to look at<-, the devs really made a good progress on getting everything out of this outdated engine so that the game feels really really enjoyable now in ALL aspects. You spend a lot of time in Menus (and having fun doing do !)so this really matters. If you are a Role Player, get this game, i never enjoyed a world like this in where your decisions really mean something, the atmosphere of the whole world can change because of your choices, no playthrough is ever the same. The World is "crazy" - but believeable. The Humor nails it down for me. Also it has been casualized _just about the right_ percentage. Your Party does not have weight for the inventory now; this may be the only thing where they got too far with dumbing down the gameplay, everything else just feels right.

Extremely Fun RPG experience

I have not had this much fun with a game for a while. I wrote this review after I wrote my CP2077 review, which I thought was a huge disappointment. This game by far is a better experience and better value. I ended up buying the deluxe upgrade to help support the devs as well as getting some nice goodies. Playing this game late 2020 I had a great experience, all the initial reviews mentioned performance issues and bugs, but my PC handled the game perfectly with 1080Ti, reaching 80 fps consistenly on 4k. I hit occational bugs but nothing deterred the fun of the game. There are some gameplay inconveniences such as inventory sorting is not present, setting up ambush is not very fun but necessary if you want full party to move first. Those issues aside, the story got me hooked ALL the way through, I have stayed up till 2, 3 am almost everyday playing to find out new story beats. The side content is great fun too. Three times I was laughing out loud for several minutes because of the choices I could pick. The way this game allows me to make gaming altering decision is just insane. I will be doing a full replay just to find out what would happen if I go down a different path. Can't praise the story enough. WISH IT WAS LONGER! The combat is above average. I didn't really find the AI all that challenging. I started with Ranger diff then upped to Supreme Jerk, and I only had a whole party wipe once fighting the ultimate scorpitron after 2 previous regular scorpitron fights. The high HP of the enemy doesn't present me more challenge necessarily. I wish there are more to the combat. Once all your rangers have settled into their designated role, you kind of just play the same combat each time, despite the fantastic enemy variety and faction diversity, eventually the combat became a bit boring to me. I wanted to review this based on my experience as this game brought me some geniune fun never experienced before. Definitely recommend.

A worthy addition to the series

Full disclosure: I was a backer on Fig, I completed Wasteland 2: Director's Cut and got all the achievements, and I also played Wasteland 1 on my Commodore 64 way back in 1988. The Good: --Story is clever and immerses you into the post-apocalyptic world well --Sense of humor is still there, sometimes dark, sometimes obscure (if you have a 1980s funny bone, it will be tickled), always irreverent and funny --Combat isn't pefect, but it's fun, and many encounters have multiple ways to beat/solve them --Music sounds like they got professionals to do it, and they clearly had fun with it --Scotchmo The Bad: --Multiplayer crossplatform didn't work for me; I didn't reach out to tech support, but I searched online a lot and just couldn't get it to function well. This might have been due to a weird problem with GOG's installer. I don't really blame the game for this, but frustrating nonetheless --Skill synergies not always immediately apparent, and if you're not getting lots of skill points per level, you may find you wasted points on skills you didn't really need; if this bothers you, read a strategy guide beforehand --Endgame: maybe I was just sad to see it all end, but without giving any spoilers, be ready for some betrayal and less-than-optimal battle configurations for a final battle that wasn't quite as difficult as some of the mid-game encounters, in my opinion 5/5 stars, my first playthrough took me about ~60 hours total. It's been about 7 months, and I'm looking forward to playing it again and possibly getting the upcoming expansion.
